Aston Villa find themselves in virtually uncharted territory following Tuesday night’s victory to continue our perfect 2018. Five wins in five, thanks to Robert Snodgrass’s 90th-minute winner in what Blades fans will almost certainly consider a smash-and-grab.
Villa continued their 2018 winning streak in convincing fashion yesterday, making it four in a row, and sending Barnsley home on the wrong end of a 3-1 scoreline. This is the sort of run that looks like progress. Goals have been coming from a variety of players, and Villa are playing more quickly, combining nicely, and finally looking cohesive.
Villa got back to winning ways at the City Ground yesterday, riding a Scott Hogan goal through to the finish line and a 1-0 win over our European Cup-winning brothers. They’re all important wins, but it was good to see the A team put things right after the cup exit, and continue on in the vein of the Boro and Bristol matches in the league prior to that.
Our magnificent FA Cup run is over, but I don’t think Steve Bruce was wrong to stay focused on the league. The Forest match is more important than extra games in a competition we’re not going to win. If we’ve weathered a bit of a storm and found ourselves coming out stronger on the other side, Villa are in a good spot to make a run at it over the final 20. And that’s all that counts.
This is getting boring. Three matches, three wins, nine points. Eight wins in 11 now, as Villa handled Ipswich Town with relative ease to close out a very good week with a 2-0 win courtesy of an Albert Adomah brace. Please feel free to be positive. Or take a nap.
