Sunderland host us tonight on the heels of two consecutive draws, and three in five sandwiching a couple of defeats. Steve Bruce has been respectful, and probably should be. The Black Cats may be sitting bottom of the table, but they’re got a lot to play for, and with Chris Coleman, no fool at the helm. Safety is not out of reach, and they’ll be wanting a result as much as we.
As I write this, it looks as though QPR will brave the elements on head up to Villa Park since our pitch has been kept nice and warm. And I must admit, I have a bit of a soft spot for the Hoops—after all, Stan Bowles was one of my favorite players back in the day.
At the weekend, Villa somehow put four past Sheffield Wednesday while conceding only two. I’m not sure how that came about, so I guess we all just say thank you very much and move on. There are some other things to consider, however.
All good things must come to an end, and Villa’s grand run of seven and counting was no different today. Fulham were full value for their 2-0 win, pulled within four of Villa, and dropped us to third.
As luck would have it, Villa’s aim for eight straight features us away to the Cottagers and potentially missing two of our brightest lights. I don’t know why, but when things are going well, it sort of always seems that someone important gets injured. Which isn’t to say that Villa can’t win without Jack Grealish and/or Albert Adomah.
