In all its one-forty years,
this club has rarely known such tears!
Since when did this club suffer
– and appear such a duffer?
It goes on, and on, does it not?
this gross insult to man and tot.

During the QPR match the camera panned onto Paul Lambert as he sat with mournful, long, face … and twiddling his fingers as though to say “now what do I do?”

It became dreadfully clear in that match that Villa had the overall strength to win, but that they lacked very little by way of ability to prise the lock … the lack of a pass that would be the undoing of the opposing defence. Yet the man that has some of that ability sat on the Villa bench and was not brought on until the damage had been done. Until that point the main threats that Villa had given to the QPR defence were two fine strikes from outside the penalty area by Sanchez and Cleverley, both well stopped by Green. Very little opportunity was afforded to Villa from close in.

Yet some people say that we need a poacher on the field to put the ball away – i.e. Bent. But surely, unless the chances are there, even a poacher is not going to score!

My Villanous friends, I say that we lack, simply, plain footballing ability to provide chances: a situation that is aided, I suppose, by the enforced absence of Delph. But haven’t we been saying that for a long time now? Surely Lambert (an old midfielder himself) would be able to see that shortcoming and provide a player or two on the field that isn’t just a workaholic but a player of constructive skill. Maybe the time is desperate enough to bring on Grealish, but is it too much responsibility to put onto a young man’s shoulders? Perhaps with Cole alongside him there might be a solution, but it’s whether Cole can last a full 90 minutes that’s the question.

Or perhaps the problem would be better dealt with by having proper wing-men rather than depending on overlapping full-backs? Players that could get round the back and make a telling pull-back or a killing pass across goal? You know, a la Young and Downing. But we no longer have any such players, so this is effectively just a pipe-dream.

With the return of Senderos (with Vlaar) and Hutton, Villa’s defence would be restored to full health in my opinion, so the issue to me is purely on the question of creativity and for me the team selection never seems to include that vital ingredient.

Perhaps (utilising the squad we have) the situation might be dealt with by starting Cole and then bringing on Grealish for the second 45 or last 30, depending on the situation?

Something needs to be done. Doesn’t it? And maybe a change of manager is the definitive answer to get the team selection and substitutions right: the manager we have doesn’t seem to get it, and the twiddling of his fingers just seems to show the state of his nerves.

What a twaddle, this twiddle! What a mess.

  1. John,

In answer to your leading question it will be the championship with this lot in charge.

We all talk about creativity and most people look to the midfield to provide that spark but it should come from all over the park, look at Evertons two full backs bombing forward on every occasion setting up play and scoring goals.

We just do not have any players like this in any area, our midfield are devoid of any type of creativity Westwood looked way out of his depth on Monday because Rangers shut him down every time he got the ball and he panicked.

We thought the lad from Swansea would be the answer but we could not tempt him to come, either it was the money or he thought Villa were a club going nowhere or was it just Lambert, blimey It wasn”t long ago if we went after a player they would crawl on their hands and knees to come to VP, now they take a flight in the opposite direction.

I fear we have darker days ahead under this current regime of Lerner and Lambert because I see nothing changing in the very near future except our league position which will be the bottom three a lot sooner than I first predicted.

    AVFC RIP.

  2. Good half term morning everyone,
As always John, a great measured article with some astute observations.

FIrstly, whilst I have never been a Lambert supporter, , I did feel sympathy for him on Monday. You point out that he looked over-whelmed and this is not the first time. But what struck me was how little support he got from RK – whose body language and demeanour showed he was trying to disassociate himself from the man in charge. This isn’t great and we have seen it before when PL fell out with IC. The camera shots, the press photos and the pundits all show RK sitting stony faced, uncommunicative and devoid of passion. Has there been a fall out – or is RK trying to distance himself from the sinking ship. Whatever it is, it needs to be sorted quick and when they come to the dugout at VP for Spurs we need to see a dynamic and united team starting with the coaches. The players need this and so do the supporters.

As for our goal scoring phobia, you are right again John. Poachers do need feeding and we all know that DB is a poacher not a play maker. However, unless I read it incorrectly, we had more shots on target against the ageing QPR defence – unfortunately they were not converted. Whether DB is stlil the man to do it is questionable given his long exile. But I got the feeling on Monday that if just one of those chances had gone in we could have deflated and beaten QPR : who let’s face it are no better than us man for man or in ability. Gabby and Weimann don’t deserve their places and whether he plays Grealish or DB, he has to change the strike force to give hope to the rest of the team. We cant keep on doing the same thing, picking the same people, employing the same tatics and expect different results.

  3. Following on from what SWV just said, my friend was there on Monday night and couldn’t get over how much space Lowton had but stopped each time he reached a certain point – frightened to go forward. THis is something that perhaps the cameras didn’t show.

  4. john
some great comments, but when you have lost 4 on the spin without scoring or trying and you keep guzan sissko westwood clever ly wiemen gabby on and omit bent cole zog grealish lambert will never have a clue keane onlyhere to sell book what was beard all about if moyes wont come pulis to end of season with bonus for how far he can finish up the table.
fox bound to see no uptake on season tickets sponsers looking to come on board kit makers xmas is coming usually family will spend few pound on presents not this year hope a boycott on villa shops are not far away if lerner keeps dumb and dumber in charge hit lerner in pocket starting sunday in front of sky stand out side and cheer up the villa

  5. Morning John & AVL.

The lack of creativity in the starting eleven was brutally exposed. As you say, this is hardly new, but perhaps it was more pronounced because it was one of those rare occasions where Villa had more of the ball.

If the management are looking for the full backs to supply creativity in wide areas we are in trouble. It was striking just how poor on the ball Cissoko is and Lowton was light years behind the level he showed in his first season. Richardson would be a better attacking option at left back, though whether he would perform the defensive side as well is a major doubt. Bennett was actually pretty good going forward and could put in a good cross, pity about the alarming defensive side of his game which is a slight drawback considering he is a defender.

A blind man could see we are crying out for creativity. Instead of trying to fit square pegs in round holes we have to use what options we do have. In an ideal world N’Zogbia may be too lazy, Grealish too lightweight and Cole short of fitness, but instead of dwelling on what they can’t or don’t do one or some combination of them need to be used. However, Lambert clearly values running around a lot (some don’t even do that) over ability.

I’m certainly hoping the starting line up is different on Sunday and that we actually pick a team to have a go and try to win the match. But I expect the usual line up with the emphasis on being solid and difficult to beat. Strange how our difficult to beat line up is so easy to beat.

  6. Good piece John,
Jenny the cameras on the transmission I watched showed what someone on here described as the ‘crab’ passes; for a counter-attacking side we rarely counter-attacked and the midfield just stopped going forward when we broke out.
The absence of creativity was even more apparent as Benteke started coming back to look for the ball later in the first half.
In my opinion Lerner should pay off Lambert and find a manager to take us into the second half of the season above the bottom half. The cost of the pay-off will be offset against the alternative of losing Premier League money and the re-sale value will be better than if we were in the Championship.
Keep Lambert and we would be playing in the Second Division by the time his contract expires.
But who would come? Moyes isn’t that stupid or desperate for work.

  7. I did think for a long time until learner goes it does not matter who is manager but i think now a new manager can improve us.

A new man can hopefully play players in there positions, treat Grealish better and have a few different ways to win football games.

  8. I was getting angry at MNF when they kept saying before the game we are counter attacking side. I wish they actually did real research on our style this season and they would have found we actually don’t have a style. We don’t counter, we don’t park the bus becAuse we still concede like there’s no tomorrow. We do nothing for 90 mins, nothing

I hope spurs do us 4-0 if it means the twat is sacked. We might get the lucky win we pick up now and then under him, bit then we always go and lose our next 5 games but he still stays because we of that win one

The manager has been a disgrace for some time now, it started only about 5 months since he joined when we had probably 6 weeks of results that should have seen him sacked. Luckily we picked up for a few games but then his second season broke all records, and he’s carrying on that this season just playing even worse football

Moyes needs to come in. Lamberk won’t even play Grealiah

  9. And when Spurs do us, can Lamberk really survive ?

It’s not just his awful management, but the players will have lost all faith in him and there can’t be nah going back from that.

If he stays, spurs, west ham, saints and Burnely will beat us

I honestly think we will still be looking for a goal come the burnley game

  10. I wrote earlier in the season following our decent start that both Hull and Stoke looked a bit toothless and that identifying worse sides than us would be easy so as to avoid relegation, clearly the Liverpool result was not a fluke in Liverpool terms as they’ve struggled against most teams this seasons and only by weight of expectation are they actually worse than us. At this stage not even QPR are worse than us as you can see a determination in the way the played that made up for a lack of real skill bulldozed by Zamora’s approach to the game

I’ve seen a lot of comment that on paper the squad strength is there to see us through, I’ve my doubts but the absolute gaping whole is our manager, he is bereft of ideas, of a system, of changing things either to be preventative or progressive.

I’ve never been a fan of manager sacking being of the opinion that continuity far outweighs fluctuation, however, Lambert has to go for the good of the club, I expect already that players have lost interest in following the man over the trenches and would rather kick back until he gets shot (figuratively).

I expect Keane to take over and for stories to come out about Lambert’s dictatorial approach and poor training methods.

In terms of the squad, starting with Benteke (6-7 weeks away from being back to form) we don’t have that time to wait but an undoubted strength that we don’t play to, Gabby one trick pony and that pony is tired and for the knackers yard, Weimann possibly played out of position but i don’t see the out and out striker he claims to be, but predicated by poor service levels from midfield. Delph our best midfielder which says a lot, i still look at him as being prone to rash challenges and a box to box player but no playmaker, a simple passing/possession player. Westwood, i’d like to write something nice but I don’t see the need for him in front of the back four if we have that type of player in Delph, Cleverly, the lost man i don’t think he knows what his role should be alongside Westwood and Delph (managers fault), could play well in a 4-4-2 alongside Delph as he has a bit more creativity. Sanchez giving this guy a chance, EPL is a different game but where does he fit in unless it a 3-5-2 and we don’t have the players for that system. Cole we signed an injured reject, Grealish the future but maybe not for Villa unfortunately. N’Zogbia looks good for Wigan should have stayed there Cissohko rubbish, poor control, Clark rubbish, Baker only slightly better than Clark but has more chance to improve, Senderos remeber we signed a reject, Vlaar overrated and over-exposed due to the amount of defending he has to do. Hutton the fastest pedestrian player ever, no skill just breaks up play and players useful but not in the modern game of attacking fullbacks. Guzan overweight 🙂 and no one challenging his position.

i expect another defeat on Sunday as we typically do help teams suffering and we don’t have a system or players to impose on them, it is not like Spurs have to adjust anything to combat us, we aren’t that threatening.

I want Villa to win always but i don’t expect a change in the status quo as Lerner doesn’t need to pay off another manager and doesn’t need to bring in a new manager that will demand funds in January which he is not prepared to provide. Watch Vlaar go and some reinvestment, thankfully Delph (sorry Delph) got injured or he’d be gone too.

  11. Just some observations on some great comments…

SWV: It wasn”t long ago if we went after a player they would crawl on their hands and knees to come to VP, now they take a flight in the opposite direction. – Yes, it’s an awful situation isn’t it? The pride has just been squeezed out of the club … and it’s only take 3 (perhaps 4) years to do it.

Jenny: If read it incorrectly, we had more shots on target against the ageing QPR defence – unfortunately they were not converted. – Yes, that’s true. But I think only a tiny number of attempts came from close-in (there were 2 very good 20-yard shots and another that might have been better hit), hence my observation that we need someone to create chances in inside the box.

Andrew: I did think for a long time until learner goes it does not matter who is manager but i think now a new manager can improve us. – That was certainly my thinking as well. Credit were it’s due, PL now has a squad of better quality, but it’s clearly not being coached or motivated properly. And what’s the do with Okore?!

Darren: Some astute observations there, mate.

  12. Hi folks.

Good article JL, and Jenny is very close to the mark, and it has been our main trouble since the Liverpool game this season, and many times last season, that players going forward , suddenly stop and will not cross some imaginary line, invented by Lambert. Clarke is a typical example. he is a player whose natural ability is to go forward and create, and we stifle him him, and make him play defence, which he will never be, any more than Barry was.

Bent could not have missed as many chances given the ball in the box, if he started very match. He should play alongside Benteke, not Weimann.

I also get the feeling that Keane and Lambert do not see eye to eye over tactics or team selection, and he is distancing himself from the debacle going on.

We seemed to stop playing 70 minutes into the Man City game and we have not participated since, so perhaps the players also do not have their heart in Lambert’s style and tactics…..the end must be near…..He surely cannot survive another defeat.

  13. Frem:

It’s not just those poor stats, is it?

It’s the sheer bad management, like keeping out players like Bent, Hutton and N’Zogbia in the belief that you’re going to sell ’em and then find you can’t. And bringing in Culverhouse, who got found out.

  14. When i look at Lambert i see someone in meltdown, some of the things he says are gibberish, no goals in five games but he’s not worried, he’s trying to sort out the defence !!! Plenty of scorers, Richardson ( Dropped ), Zoggy ( Dropped ), Tekkers ( unfit ), Bent unplayable, disliked and persecuted ) and Cleverly ( what is it 3 goals in 80 games ). The bloke ought to take a good look at himself and then he’ll either bugger off or slash his wrists ’cause he certainly isn’t an asset to AVFC.
Keane obviously thought he’d be manager by now, unfortunately he hadn’t reckoned on Lerners absolute stupidity, the only club in the Universe who would give this plank another four years. Don’t mistake Keane’s inertia for disappointment, he’s still in shock like the rest of us, if he isn’t gaffer by Crimbo, he’ll sod off and become a salesman for Waterstones.
Lerner ? as his former employee once called him “The most insignificant Billionaire in the World” he’s also the biggest knobhead and the owner ( custodian ) who’s made the two worst managerial appointments in football history. Until this moron is out of VP we’ll always be in a state of severe decline.
Fox is only here to maximise Lerners $$, he can’t sell us so get as much as you can then sell to anyone or sell VP for units, just as long as the lowlife gets his money back, if you believe he still has good intentions then your doolally too.
Tom Cleverley won’t, ( Thank God ) sign for us in Jan now he’s seen the state of the club, not good enough even for Villa though.
As i said earlier, Vlaars off to the theatre of bullshite, but a little birdie tells me that Delph is of to Spuds either in Jan or the close season.
Lowton should be a founder member of a new bomb squad, to tell our fans to fook off after his pathetic display was criminal although to be honest most of the arseholes deserve it, i’ve always stuck up for our fans, but i assumed that like in previous years they wouldn’t allow themselves to be walked over, wrong again, no self respect, they’re not being ‘loyal’ they’re supporting a regime that’s destroying the club, whats loyal about that, at least we had the goolies to organise protests and demo’s, these knobs still sing about Paul Lamberts Claret & Blue Army !!!
Is the club worth it ? no, i’d sooner pull out of the league than continue like this under Lerner, Lambert, Keane & Fox, they won’t be getting another penny out of me f’em.

  15. By the way, just to show how stupid Lerner is, he could have given the mumbling idiot a four year contract or another option was to approach the current manager of the year, an easy choice for anyone who isn’t criminally insane and ought to be sectioned, so what does the yank plank do ? Lerner, Lambert, Keane and Fox just piss off.

  16. I’ve read a few comments along the lines of surely Lambert can’t survive another defeat. Normally this would be true.

However the sheer regularity with which Lerner makes bizarre decisions which negatively affect Aston Villa means nothing can be taken for granted. And if Fox was involved in the decision to award the most hasty and least merited contract extension ever, he needs to leave as quickly as these other clowns.

  17. Great to see you back Steamer !

John – opta stats show we had 7 shots inside the box on Monday together with four corners. That’s a possible 11 shots going into the box . (15 goal attempts overall) Given that we achieved 6 on target compared to a mind blowing total of 12 shots on target in all the eight previous games (averaging 1.5 shot success rate per game ) then Monday night was a 6 x better.
I’m not a stats maniac – due to my being a maths phobic. But , even my simple brain can work out it’s no good increasing our shots if the present incumbents can’t find the back of the net . And still they start and mostly play 90 mins. Weiman looked like he was going to get a second yellow on Monday / which may explain why Bent was given 11 mins on the pitch rather than his customary 5 .

Steamer / you make a very good point on RK. Was the 4 year contract a body blow for him as well as us , certainly looks that way .

  18. Jenny: opta stats show we had 7 shots inside the box on Monday together with four corners. That’s a possible 11 shots going into the box . (15 goal attempts overall)

Their are three kinds of stats, Disraeli said!! 😉

I saw the match, Jenny. Whatever shots were in the box were blocked as Villa’s attempts were so slow at trying to get through. I don’t recall ever one Villa player looking likely to score in the box except for Clark’s challenged attempt after a Benteke knock down.

The point is, Jenny, is that although we had a substantial amount of the play, Villa’s play was too laborious. In fact QPR were (if you like) playing Villa’s usual game of packing defence and springing out when they could.

Hence the need for an incisive lock-picker!!

  19. Steamer

I thought the same when lambert was asked about the goal situation.

He reeled of weimaan, richardson, cleverly, gabby…..whenever have they been a threat to bloody goal!!

Sooooo frustrating, these people get paid millions and cant see the obvious

  20. John- No, it’s not just the stats but I get the feeling that’s the only thing Randy and Fox would understand. You don’t need to know anything about football to know those stats are shocking

Everything about Lamberk is bad. From the stats, to the style we play, to his interviews, to playing Cleverlwy left mid, Gabby CAM and Wiemann RM. Not one of those were in there correct position but Randy won’t know that so it’s the stats he has to read

Jenny- Good point on Keane. He must of thought he’d be manager by now. Won’t be long

  21. Stats

I think Jenny has just highlighted how little reliance we should put on stats – the simplistic stats at least.

I think anyone who saw the QPR game would agree that Villa were out-thought completely and/or that Villa were just too complacent in trying to build up in what is called a patient way. Patient play is only valid i.m.o. when you have players that have quick brains that can spot a chance when it’s patiently engineered. Our lot don’t have quick (incisive) brains!

  22. John – less of the simplistic 🙂
I agree the possession stats don’t tell the whole story . We had 65% and no goals. But 11 balls going into the box and no goals ? Am I being harsh but surely someone could v knocked one in ?

  23. Did you see the stats after QPR ?

    Goals 4 20th
    Shots 56 20th
    On target 18 20th
    Possession 38% 19th
    Chance conversion 7.1% 19th

Dire. Disgraceful. Embarrassing. But not surprising

Personally, I can’t even believe we have had 18 shots on target

  24. The lack of goals serves Lamberk right for doing Nothing in the summer to improve us going forwards.last season and even pre season we couldn’t attack for shit but the blind so and so did nothing

We rewarded failure to Lamberk with a new contract, the same with Gabby

Everything at this club is wrong at the min

  25. Jenny, the stats are totally misleading i.m.o.

Apart from the 2 x 20-yard shots I’ve mentioned (which were good strikes but too much within reach of the keeper), and Clark’s “chance”, there was no excitement generated by all the other attempts at all as I recall. Their defence just shut ’em out.

The “simplistic” bit was not meaning you, of course! Just the way these stats guys clock ’em up I suppose.

  26. Nice one steamer and every word is true

Jen’s point about players stopping is bang on and something i notice in the game – hutton however has really gone for it in that position

We play truely terrible footy but i just can’t vblame our players — there is so much negitives at the club that players like Lowton are bound to be far from there best and drained of confiedence.

But i still say we have a half decent sqaud that should be confortable in this lge

Lambert playing strikers and midfielders out wide and leaving wingers at home or on the bench is not helping the team and he sets the lads up with no balance to attack effectivly

  27. Ian
l hope your not refering that Lamberk and Lerner are like L&H , Stan and Ollie are geniuses , l think you meant Steamer and sww ,

loved the dog , put it on F/B ,lv picked up some women like that in my time , especially at The Gary Owen , sww met his first love there , unfortunatley she drank him under the table on their first date .

saying on the radio that were after a player at the wolves and pundits saying he not ready for the premier , seems Lamberks getting us ready for the championship ,

  28. I don’t think it’s the players, it’s the manager. That is probably why Keane spoke up about not wanting to be #2 for much longer. Lam-a-fafable is a joke.

Also recall Keane didn’t want any credit for the good start. He knew this guy is a joke.

Senderos will help against Spurs, but all we can hope for is 0-0.

  29. I know you are too much of a gentleman to suggest such a thing John (unlike some on here 🙂 )

    Evening st75 – surely you haven’t x

Tend to agree with you on the stats John I can’t see where they got their 15 attempts at goal . I suppose we can now get excited when we get more than one shot on target with current form 🙂
Laughed at your idea of RKs next job as Waterstones salesman steamer . He must be making a mint from it .

  30. You have to admire Southampton though. Class club, class manager, class team that plays proper football. No Mourhino BS, no Rodgers different formations…

Imagine if we had Martinez…what a HUGE mistake. I’ll admit that I didn’t know how good he was back then

  31. Newcastle look like they are turning corner

Apparently Keane and Lamberk got stuck In to the players at full time

Kind of hope Spurs do us so Lamberk goes. I think we will lose our next four anyway but one win every 6 months is good enough for our board

Zidane has been banned for 3 months cus he doesn’t have proper qualifications

    Maybe Lamberk doesn’t either

  32. jenny
seen a good one yesterday on same subject i think went like this villa goal of the month has only one candidate guzan every time he turned round there was one in his net

  33. “I have run out of positives with this team. And that is a sad state of affairs for me.”

    Ian

One knows it’s a sad state of affairs when such a positive Villan such as yourself says such a thing.

    Jenny

“We will be scratching around for Villa’s goal of the month !”

True, have they even scored one in the last month?

    Paul Pears

“Time to go elsewhere and celebrate being alive…”
Please don’t say such things, it’s so tempting a thing to do.

  34. The apathy that is running through this club is like a plague, you can see it from top to bottom all the way from Lerner down to the fans, this site would have had three hundred posts by now with a headline ” A real mess-where do we go now ” we can hardly muster 40.
You would think that Lerner being the owner/custodian call him what you want would be at VP 24/7 to look after his investment seeing as things are going tits up in a catastrophic way but the idiot is nowhere to be seen, all his manager can do is come our with statements that make your blood boil, yes Paul Darren Bent is a real goal threat – sat on the bleeding bench, so where is our CEO or whatever acronym they have bestowed on him, well the silence is deafening.

Aston Villa is imploding before our very eyes and nobody gives a crap, the younger fans do not seem to have the passion anymore Frem I exclude you from that group, the older ones have seen it all before albeit to a lesser degree so we take the attitude that we have been caring and worrying about AVFC long enough it just might be down to someone else to pick up the reigns.

I see it in my discussions with a lot of Villans and to be fair are not that bothered about the clubs demise and that is a sorry state of affairs but the truth is we are all watching the club die on its arse and most of us could not give a flying feck.

I end my posts with AVFC RIP and to be fair it is done slightly with tongue in cheek but now I look at it I may be a lot closer to the truth than I first thought.

    AVFC RIP.

  35. SWV: we are all watching the club die on its arse and most of us could not give a flying feck

Perhaps it’s just the sense that whereas in 1968 a fans-aided recovery was seen to be possible, today the finances and nature of things makes the possibility too remote. The fact that footie is now predominantly about big money and aloof owners, that makes us turn away from any attempt at major protest.

Today is a different world from 40 or 50 years ago. That’s good in some ways, but back then you felt everything was possible, and you felt that the club *was* a club. Today? We don’t have a clue to know what to do: I don’t think it’s that we don’t care.

  36. Paul: Time to go elsewhere and celebrate being alive….

And maybe that’s the wise reality of it all … Is it that the time of footie and passive watching of sports has past its sell-by-date: that there are more relevant issues to life to be concerned about?

Perhaps many of us would say ‘yes’ to that, but if the Villa were to get itself sorted I bet we’d be back down at VP pretty quick! 😉

  37. John,

Perhaps you are right I think many of us have become dis-enfranchised not only with Villa but football in general, we see the players on £300k to £350k A WEEK and we are completely bemused and just stare at these type of figures.
We are talking in the realms of £15.6M a year plus bonuses for what can only be described as 90 minutes work a week.

So is it that surprising that we are less and less interested in football in general, back when I was following Villa home and away I used to work 60 hours a week so I could pay the bills and follow my favourite club, I felt somewhat connected to the players, but today I have very little passion for the cash cow that is Aston Villa Football Club, I see people come to the club to take the money and leave as soon as the going gets tough.

Or is it just me getting old?

    AVFC RIP.

  38. SWV,

That “old-fashioned” connectedness just about sums it up I think, mate! Back then you didn’t think you were watching players any different from you except that they could play such wonderful stuff.

It’s the stuff that made a *club* … the connectedness was the bond.

Now, they’re given all manner of easier playing conditions, including fancy football boots and plastic balls. I think part of the old enjoyment of being a spectator was seeing the players splash about in the mud – another element of “connectedness” as those were the conditions we faced on the parks.

If the players could see that they have a responsibility to play like men and act their part well then we’d be more forgiving, I suspect. I still have that vision of Pele and Moore after their wonderful encounter in Mexico, 1970 and thinking then that the football we saw that day and the attitude of the players was why it was called “the beautiful game”.

  39. Well boys and girls…….Time to go elsewhere it was…..a few beers in town then back on the bus to the local for a few more….I certainly did celebrate being alive…….as another year was completed……next will be the big one…….maybe Villa will give me something to celebrate then….

Just been watching the Sid Cowans interview after the under 21’s game, now there is a man at VP who knows whar he is doing, and knows what he is talking about….including the problems with Jack Grealish….and Jack is starting to listen to him…Interesting his comments on Shay Given as well.

  40. The age of football for the masses has passed; a new dawn is upon us whether we like it or not it doesn’t include us. We have a love affair with what used to be not what is.

American money has meant that our club is a business; on that side of it our targets are being met. Lambert has done everything he has been asked to, so why sack a man for doing his job?

Does the owner really care that our performances are poor; we are still sitting at the top footballing table attracting massive media funding. What’s it to him that he doesn’t have to plough that money back.

The toughest decision we as fans have to make is can the money we earn be spent better elsewhere; the short answer is yes!

The affair I had with this club stretching back some 40 odd years ago is waning; my desire to even watch them on the TV is passing. Just like a great holiday I once had, all that’s left is the memories and the photographs.

One thing is for definite; to carry on like this will see the loss of many long-term fans and new fans too. I am one of the lucky ones, I have seen the glory days at Villa Park and no amount of pain can take those memories from me.

Could it change? Maybe, but don’t bet on it, even with a new owner.

Is the only way to for this club to come back from the clutches of the moneymen and into the arms of the fan once again relegation, who knows?

The futures a bitch isn’t it?

  41. Hi John.

when you go om the official site there is a little screen to the right which gives AVTV clips. The first one, after an advert is Wolves 2-1 reactions and should show Sid’s interview with Jack Woodward without logging into AVTV.

  42. Apparently Lamberk got booood at the open training session. Hahahaha

    Your time is up

Now we just need Spurs to do us cus if we get our lucky win, that’s him staying

  43. Iv had a thought, the wife has just informed me that the actor Marc Baylis, who plays Rob Donovan is A massive Villa fan, perhaps we could get him to knock Lambert off like his murdering character he plays??? I don’t watch soaps TBF but even I know who he is as the plot has been on everything at the moment!
    Frem
The open training session was for the kids, surely they haven’t started booking him aswell!!

  44. Rod (Sam): … our targets are being met. Lambert has done everything he has been asked to, so why sack a man for doing his job?

I don’t follow that at all. Dipping attendances are who’s fault?

  45. So Swansea are getting investment….Palace are getting brought by someone who rejected us……..what the hells going on, why does no one want us!

Shit owner, shit manager, shit players…..happy days

  46. Hello all –
    James G 🙂
Reports of more Lions Clubs being told off by the club for putting honest assessments of the game on Monday on their facebook page. (An International group this time). They just don’t get it do they . More and more Lions CLubs are now setting up independent supporters groups . A club at war with its supporters can only end in tears.

  47. Jenny- The club are unreal. Think they can tell fans off for saying we are doing shite. We are

Just gets worse for Lamberk. Tonev banned for 7 matches. Another dire signing of his

    Time for the sack

  48. When and how will this nightmare end? What did us Villains do in a past life to deserve years of lackluster football, if the management is going to turn to Cole to turn this around we may as well be in the championship already. Monday night was a perfect example of how much we needed Hoolahan he is the perfect tool for unlocking a press defense, the scots will find out next month 🙂

Hope you all have a great weekend , don’t let our joke of a club get you down the chairman doesn’t give a toss nor do 90% of the players so why should we.

  49. One more loss and Keane will be interim manager. I should be able to feel the spit from his talk to the players. This is nuts. None of the teams in Brum are much to write home about. Maybe trade Lerner for the BCFC bunch. Where is Petrov playing next week? Maybe we should all go to that game instead.

  50. Just really hoping Sunday isn’t Lamberks get out of jail card. If We have to lose Sunday to get him sacked, then so be it

If he stays, we will lose out next four games and there won’t be any turning that around

Apparently he called players the C word on Monday and there was physical confrontation

Lost the dressing room. Hopefully Sunday will show that

  51. good moaning folks,
I had the misfortune of watching the our hapless team on monday whilst in a pub
in snowdonia, this gave me the good fortune of alcohol at hand but at £5 a pint I could of done with a a footballers wages or all the money i’m owed by ST75, Steamer, B6 and SWV and I haven’t even met the latter.
we controlled the game and defended poorly, I can’t believe how much difference Senderos means to this team, I said on here that Vlaar is not an organiser just a big finger in the dyke and so it proved. our inability to fashion chances from clever play is Killing us as always, we have a team full fiddlers and no-one to orchestrate them, in essence a bunch of players who can run about but don’t know why they are.
On the bench I was shocked to see Lambert sucking his thumb and mumbling Mama whilst his good friend Keano with whom he has a “right laugh” sat stone faced and looking as though he doesn’t give a toss. why would he with all his part time jobs. In the real world it should be curtains for both but this is Lerner Land, owned by a man who couldn’t pick a winner in a one number lottery. for me I’d get Moyes in, if we got stuck with Pullis long term I don’t think we would get far. not the Martinez I wanted but at least he is not mental. The real issue (unless the knob head has some luck in choosing a manager and puts some cash in) is Randy Lerner, he has to go pronto.

on the bright side apart from a couple of moments sanchez showed he can be a player for us, he drove us forward and for a defensive player he looked our best option going forward ( doesn’t say a lot I know). what was worrying was when he got the ball he looked to move it only to see the back of his team mates as they sprinted off up field. pre season and in the reserves Grealish and cole have showed they are on the same wave length and linked well with bent and picked out his runs well. Whether they are fit enough or ready for this level I don’t know but we need a spark. Johnson who is out on loan is a no 10 believe it or not and a captain for years and when i’ve seen him he looks good going forward and would know Grealishs game, he is worth a look to replace delph.

nice to see some faces back on here even if they are all looking smug 😉

  52. Mark,

I have put a cheque in the post and I am pretty sure I have signed it, a fair assessment of a very poor game and a more shocking result for us, I cannot see Lambert changing it much for Sunday mainly because he does not know how to the idiot is making it up as he goes along ably assisted by the bearded wonder, again I can only see another defeat for us to add to our growing record of losses although I do think we will score a goal.
I know it is tongue in cheek but I can guarantee there will be no smugness when it comes to seeing our club in ruins, like you we have supported this club for the best part of 50 years and the pain is insufferable when you see these people raping our great club.
We all know the solution but seeing Lerner, Fox,Lambert and Keane walk away from VP is looking like it may come too late, I can seriously see us taking the drop this season.

    Frem,

That story about Keane and the jungle is for next year as the line up for this year has already been decided and hopefully by then he will no longer be with us, and it looks like the club have an out card now that Tonev has been found guilty they will not wait long to cancel his contract more £s in Lerners pocket.

    AVFC RIP

  53. morning lifers,

    JL,

In the interview with Sid after the Wolves game , he was saying that the first half the were very poor and he was not happy, and he told them so, he also said he worded Jack Grealish, and that he tries to often to just walk the ball in the net, instead of taking shooting opportunities (is this the reason he is not ready). Second half they came out Sid was happy and Grealish did as he was told and actually shot from 25yards and scored..!!! He also commented on DB and how well he is playing and should start scoring more goals(although he did have a penalty saved-excellent goalkeeping). He also commented on how good Shay Given is in directing the lads and the defence in general, something Guzan is failing at, or is it because Vlaar is back and no Sendeross.

Hotting up on Lambert….Sunday is now a must win game for him, as the fans more and more turn against him. I shall not be there and was lucky to sell my seat, as I am working…..will make it soon and hopefully have a beer with you Frem….If ever you make it Mark, I will buy you a pint to make up for the overpriced Welsh beer…..should have been here in Mid-Wales…much cheaper and better quality..

  54. SWV- trust me it pains us all but what do you do when the man who is supposed to be in charge is an idiot in football terms, you get a carousel of average managers who will give it a go but have no real plan/direction

  55. Paul,

Thanks muchly for your clarification on Sid’s post-match comment.

Reading between the lines it rather appears to be what I suspected – that Grealish is still a bit wet behind the ears and not ready for being thrown into the maelstrom of Prem football too much. Not like Everton’s Barklay (sp?), who seems to me to be pretty matured and physically able to take a lot of knocks. He (Barklay) physically reminds me a bit of Duncan Edwards at a young age.

  56. Aah. Thanks for that SWV.

The closer Sunday gets, the more I dread Lamberk will get his lucky his win keeping him in the job. If a loss gets rid of him, then so be it. I’d rather us lose on Sunday and sacking him, then us winning and then him staying destroying his club

PP- your lucky to have sold your ticket. I’m not even sure if I’m going on Sunday yet. Might just stay and watch it on Sky. The atmosphere will be awful again if we lose

I hope Sunday is his last day in charge of us

  57. Nah mark l dont feel smug today , l felt smug last year when l had blokes coming up to me in the social telling me l was right , he is a shit manager , and it gives me no pleasure feeling that , l just got fed up of people backing the clown to the hilt , even on TVB the lambert lovers have turned , theres still one but l reckon he’s a wind up merchant ,
Frem come and have a game of dommies sunday , the game will be on in the background if you want it ,
Jl are you still in the midlands ?

  58. ST 75 hello mate, apart from droid I can’t think of anyone who praised Lambert on here? not for his tactics certainly, fabulous after dinner speeches? nope or indeed anything in particular he never even got praise for buying Benteke from most .

In my opinion a lot of people have recognised the dire position Lerners lack of knowledge has put us in and recognised that digging us out the shit was never going to be easy and so cut Lambert some slack, after all we had just had the mcleish sideshow, not to mention what had gone before.
you have to hope other higher profile managers were sounded out but didn’t fancy the struggle, Martinez certainly didn’t.
Many higher principled managers would maybe have walked but where would that of left us because the main culprit is still here and so were the conditions. you have to ask why Lerner didn’t get a knowledgeable director of football in? and what hand Herbert had in all this? he sold it to him after all and surely he’s spoken to Randy?
The sad truth is we had an idiot picking from a list of also rans because we couldn’t offer a better manager the money to improve us or didn’t have the knowledge to recognise one even if he had worn a “I’m the right manager” tee shirt.
What should of happened is a mass demonstration but like most things today people are too apathetic to bother.
so in my opinion you have to look at who’s picked the manager and whose continued to let him manage. Giving lambert a four year contract and declaring renewed interest in villa after a decent start built on trying not to lose says it all for me.
Lambert is one of many managers who were touted on here and many of them have failed at other clubs since, we could have gone down in any of the last 4 seasons through luck we didn’t. could a better manager have been the answer and done better? maybe, will Lerner find one doubtful.

  59. Most of Twitter seem to want the Berk gone now. Still a couple of deluded people who are sticking up for the twat though. He’s been spouting the” expectations are huge at this club” again. No there not. We want 10th place and good football. Should be simple

He has said his new contract doesn’t mean he won’t get sacked

it’s down to Spurs to finish him of now. A defeat of Sunday is for the greater good. We need out worst manager in history out of this club

  60. A perfect example of the knowledge of the London journalists who control English football is the Daily Telegraphs 100 greatest players from the EPL, all the greats like Phil Neville and Scott Parker but NO Paul McGrath, seems the only qualification to be a football journo is to know where the commas go and to suck up to the arseholes who manage.

    Mark,
Be thankful he didn’t send a postal order.

The fact is that even Lambert must realise that he’s a knob and CAN’T in the reign of pigs pudding succeed at VP, the problem is that he’s determined to screw AVFC for as much as he can before taking an enforced early retirement. What with Culverarse calling our fans “effin mugs” Delph telling them the foff, Lambert nearly starting a riot in an altercation with fans, the club throwing protesters out of VP and censoring personal web sites, Lowton, after a most pitiful display joins in with his own abuse at QPR, it must be pretty obvious even to the most loyal fan that the club and its supporters are separated by a massive chasm, is the club worth supporting ? not a chance, its reeking of incompetence and isn’t AVFC any more just a shallow bunch of carpetbaggers and talentless spivs who are feeding on the rotting carcass of a football institution.

  61. Frem,
I got the petition up yesterday and its surprising how many think he’s doing a good job, one burd said she saw definite progress, if she sees that then i’m gonna get get her to fill in my lotto. Dunno what she’s on but i could do with a shot of it.

  62. steamer- some people think a crisp is one of their 5 a day, probably is, packets that is.
I’ve received something through the post with a wax seal on it, have called the bomb squad. Is Lambert trying ruin us or is Lerner giving him a massive pay off as a form of money laundering?

  63. Money laundering ? is that when you leave your wallet in your pockets at the dry cleaners ? Anyway you’ve got an extra 20 this week if the ink doesn’t run.

  64. Steamer- They are probably blue noses but I see Droyd is around on Twitter still sticking up for Lamberk. Not many what so ever agree with him

Lambert out has even been cut Into a pumpkin by one fan

His time is well and truly up bar one of his lucky ass wins he picks now and then

  65. I think his time is very nearly up anyway. 26 months of utter hell hopefully coming to and end

As long as the clueless shameless gutless twat doesn’t pick up one of his jammy wins on Sunday, I think that be might be that

Even if it’s not spurs, west ham and Southampton will beat us if he’s still in charge

  66. Lamberks just used the worst excuse of all. ” we are in transition ” kill him

    Utter twat.

We were in his first season, second season was just crap. This this season is heading to be worse

The day he leaves this club will be a great a day for AVFC

  67. Mark,
You hit it on the head, people are too apathetic these days. Lerner and his rag tag team of dim wits should have been hounded out of the club three years ago. Nothing changes unless feathers are ruffled, the Irish government have been installing water meters across the country for the last few months with tax payers money and then they plan on fleecing everyone’s pockets to have a bath but they didn’t count on over 100,000 people protesting on the streets of Dublin suddenly the water charges are being decreased they’ll be thrown out when us paddys are finished 🙂

My point is like you touched on us Villa lot have been too easy for too long akin to a wife who is suffering abuse from her husband , she thinks he will change and only sees the good in him. She is blind to the truth, a large proportion of fans have been blind to the truth for years now. Nothing will change without breaking a few eggs. There needs to be a point when the people at the club are made aware once and for all enough is enough.

  68. ST75/Steamer/SWV
Have you seen the Hole in The Wall is re opening as the ‘Peaky Blinder’
It’s gonna be swarming with vermin, wanna be gangsters.
Arguing/piss taking/laughing at Blues with a nose last night in the pub, they really are deluded at how big their club is and how big the Zulus were/are , I heard last night about crowds of 50k upwards on a weekly basis( 70’s) and how only Man Utd and Leeds had more fearsome fans and rep!!!!
Gotta say I do like the Peaky Blinders tho!

  69. B62
from about 74/75 , we let them use 1 pub in town after they got done outside chelsea girl . the idiots were on there way round to the hole , got battered and thats when we told tem to use only the 1 pub , it lasted till about 85 when we moved onto pubs down aston , Lulu warriors my arse , will tell you at the meet up about the watering hole pub island , they hate being reminded about it , funny how in the early 70s when utd went to the sty and about 39 villa went , we stood in between them on the kop , it was the villa lads who had it off with the mancs and it was the cockney reds who turned up , even Bannana Bob caught a kicking off our mate boots , and it was funny some of them knew me and asked wheres your mob , are they helping us or the mancs , funnily enough we gave it to the boths sets , sorry l can never really take a nose seriously ,

  70. Frem,
Of all the bosses we’ve had in my time as a fan, i think Lambert has the least integrity of them all. His lack of talent, personality and charisma are obvious but his lies really sicken me to the core, to put it clearer i think he’s a piece of garbage who got lucky when he met Chubster and then the simpleton Lerner. When the yank plank awarded his failure with that contract i really cracked, WTF doesn’t do the deed justice.
By the way, are you SOTC on Vital ? An old mate has that tat on his palm and whenever he meets a mealie he holds it up.
    B62,
What next, phones without wires, dunno what the Worlds coming to. Hope the place burns down.
Blue were getting 30 odd thousands, they’ve always been top of the league for bullshite, i remember a letter in the Argus from one which stated that only Untied, Arsenal and Liverpool were bigger, stupidy has been rampant in that slum for years, as for the lulus they’ve never, not once, bettered our crew.

  71. By the way, and JL wil verify this, since 1875 the vermin have had higher attendances than Villa in SEVEN seasons, end of argument. watch your step with that scum if there’s over twenty of ’em, they start to get brave with those odds.

  72. Wonder if Lambert believes all this shite he comes out with or does he actually think we do ? I have experience of mental illness and to be honest i think he’s doolally, crazy as a coot, one banger short of a barbie, for his own good put the poor deluded bastard out of his misery or let him take Keanes place in the jungle, just one more poisonous reptile.

  73. To be honest i don’t think the dummy would sack him if we lost every remaining game this season, not sure if Lerner knows too much about footy, relegation, $$$, the meaning of life, anything, he just strikes me as the sort of idiot you’de like to play cards with, moron doesn’t cover him.

  74. Excellent piece that Mark on Vital Villa.

Seems since I got my free shirt from Villa they have been unable to win, unable to score, perhaps I should throw it in the bin….and go back to the old AST, as the Genting and previous Dafabet have not brought much luck either. I have got others somewhere, but have not come across them yet…

  75. paul p- maybe the free shirt was so Lambert would have a better squad to pick from 🙂

steamer- herbert still attends doesn’t he? surely he’s had a word in Lerners shell like? or is he just enjoying the mayhem?

  76. Steamer: To be honest i don’t think the dummy would sack him if we lost every remaining game this season…

That’s it exactly, and certainly what I am afraid of.

The reason we get the dribble we do out of PL is because he knows he’s in a safe seat – and also knows he’s not getting anywhere with his team – but is just twiddling his way through it all. Hence the twiddling of his fingers and the mournful look on his face as he hates collecting his salary – he’d rather give it to Acorns. Not.

  77. John,
If you think his comments have been dribble read what he says on the OS today, a wonderful combination of self delusion and BS, especially the bit about sticking together, totally mad. ‘Really talented bunch’ indeed Paul, arf arf.

  78. Under Lambert we have lost every game against spurs, not scoring against them in five matches, with a combined score of Villa 0-Spurs 15.
Does anyone realistically think this will change tommorrow ??? I can’t, I just hope Lambert gets the bullett, as I’m fed up of being the laughing stock of the premier league and having shitheads from the local clubs taking the piss, even tho what they are saying is right

  79. Lambert has stated he thrives on the fear of being sacked!!
The bloke is a Bellend , the only reason he is still here is because of our walking car crash of an owner, between them they have done more damage to VP than the Luftwaffe

  80. John- he can’t remain in a safe seat much longer. VP will turn tomorrow when Spurs beat us

I hope tomorrow is his last day in charge because I hate the man so much

  81. Morning lifers.

Another Saturday morning looking forward to the foo5tball of the day and wondering by the end of it can Villa be bottom of the league before they kick a ball. This has gone from being the best start in many to being the worst in my memory.

Yesterday was a different day as I attended the funeral of an amazing friend, who was the leader of the pack locally, and a man , who at the same time, always had to time to help and be a friend, and enjoyed rugby, soccer and many other sports, besides his great love of superbikes, a life which it was a privilege to celebrate, and even the vicar had stories to relate about him.

Tomorrow will be work and the result will come through, before I view the pain which Aston Villa now is. Is it coincidence that every player who performed well at the start is now on the injury list….Delph, Sendeross and Hutton. perhaps there is a gremlin at work in VP.

  82. My worry is that if Lambert is sacked, who would take the job?I don`t trust Lerner to make a good appointment.Young and hungry has failed, players with EPL experience has failed, reintroducing the bomb squad has failed, recruiting Fox has failed(possibly his job can be judged long term)gates are down,.Being a Villa fan is thoroughly depressing. It`s the helplessness that kills me ,we can do nothing, can we?This is why I have quit moaning-apart from today`s rant-unless the fans do something,we will continue to get the owner nad manager we deserve-a few bedsheets and complaing on phone ins is not the solution.Let`s do something constructive moaning is not the answer.Have I any ideas or suggestions?Sadly no,but come on,lets get our act together and do something.otherwise we are all guilty of neglecting our club.We are all watching the club being dismantled as we speak.

  83. Brasil- Wouldn’t worry at first who we could get, know one can be worse than the clown we have in charge now. He needs to go

Then it’s down to the hope that Fox can attract someone

Moyes would be the best I think we could get, the safe bet if you like. I liked his Evetons side. Laudrep maybe. Even Pullis just to keep us up. His record at Palace was impressive.

Lamberk just needs to leave this club and hopefully Spurs will finish him off

  84. Cheer up Frem….Things could be worse…..and probably will be before they get better…..

Villa are really concerned about the backlash….The official pre-match video with Jack Woodward and Steve Froggatt is 35 minutes long and is a real in depth and fair assessment by Steve, and a big plea at the end to say that the team need the fans to be at the game and support them for the 90 minutes. The club are realising how close they are to completely losing the fans. The video is worth watching for some great villa goals from the past against Spurs at the end. brings back some great memories for those of us who go back a long way, and perhaps gives some hope to younger fans of what can be. It is available on the Utube channel, so you do not have to be an AVTV subscriber.

  85. PP- How could it be worse ? We’ve gone 5 games without scoring and our next 3 looks like that will continue

The OS is a load of PR BS. I hate this” oh we need the fans with us” do one Villa. We’ve been with you every game sticking with the shite they serve up game after game. 2 thousand went to QPR to watch those overpaid twats concede Sunday league level goals.

I’ll talk a defeat a big tomoz in the chance that will finally be the end of the devil. I hope the Holte sing ” we want Lambert out ” for 90 mins

  86. makes you wonder what can be done, we are after all up for sale. newcastles fans have been slating Pardew for months with little result and they still turn up. maybe the answer is an empty villa park but doubt that will happen.
would a decent manager come while we are in transition? he would want funds and certain assurances costing Lerner more if he had to get rid. Also its not like our squad would get a manager’s mouth watering, he’d only have to watch MOTD to see the lack of creativity.

  87. PP,
Sorry to hear about your friend.
That gremlin goes by the name Lambert.
The team !!! what about the fans, Villa are driving its most loyal fans away.

I think most of our fans accept we’llbe stuffed on Sunday and a large number will stay away as a protest, i think it’ll be sub 30,000 myself, at least they may look at the declining attendances and realise that its only going to get worse.

    B6B,
We could club together to buy a drone, even if it misses Lambert it stands a chance of hitting the sty and doing ten years improvements on it.

  88. John- I’d take Sid, I’d take anyone as long as it means the clown leaves us.

Mark- we still in transition then? Jesus. We’ve been for 5 years now.

I think Fox could Moyes, he said we need to spend money

” We want Lambert out, we want Lambert out”

  89. Thanks for that Steamer.

    It is a sad state……Villa 0 Spurs 15……and little chance of improvement…..

Sid is probably our best bet at the moment…if Lambert will fall on his sword….or will Sunday be the start of his Alex Ferguson days……..he was one match from dismissal….and then look at what happened…or did we keep the wrong Scotsman….perhaps Sir Alex’s recommendation dear Alex McNob is the man who should stayed…..so many dreams……but tomorrow reality will kick in once more….

  90. wow four wins on the spin for the Toons and Pardew……where is our Mike Ashley…..at least a man who knows what football is……Pardew will be next manager of the month….

  91. That’s the problem in a nutshell we have a stronger squad yet this manager has no idea how to get the most out of the players he has and insists on doing the same thing that is not working over and over again!
Why didn’t he wouldn’t he try Bent up front with Grealish and Zoggy/Gabby on the Wings, Cole in the hole, Cleverley and Westy in midfield, Sanchez protecting a back 3 of Vlaar, Cisoko and Clark.

Is it the man doesn’t want to try things or lacks the imagination to try new things, I’d have to say the latter or maybe the former or possibly both.

God he looked a pathetic sight last match on the touchline…

    UTV!

  92. frem- unless you like the team as it is then yes its transition city, especially in the sense of being sold. I wouldn’t call the last 4 years anything other than selling the family jewels to make ends. For me this should of been the season when the true rebuild started with quality additions after balancing the books but with Lerner selling that got binned.
To be honest i’m not sure we have enough quality going forward for another manager to work with. Lambert got joe cole in FFS to fill that void. We have more defensive options than the rest of the prem, Huttons are most attacking player, zoggy is proving to be as erratic as ever, Grealish deemed not ready, benteke not fit, gabby and weimann not forwards and bent no supply. should go well then

  93. Mark, I agree completely with your assessment. I had accepted the cut backs over the previous seasons as being essential and thought that Lambert deserved to be cut a little slack bearing in mind the circumstances under which he was operating. I had also expected that the reinvestment in quality would start this season and we could start looking forward with a little more optimism. When this investment was not forthcoming I decided for the first time in many years not to renew my season ticket.

  94. sky sports joe cole has not had an asist in last 50 something matches and he is lambert answer needs to drop his pets and start
    given might organise them better
bacuna after watching lowton on monday night anybody be better
    cissko nobody else
vlaar time to showhe can play
sendross/okore anybody but clark i have never seen a defender like him to mark spaceyet never seen space score
sanchez looked good on monday not hard when it is cleverly and westwood up against
    westwood last chance
    zog same as westwood
grealish grow set balls lambert start him
    bent spurs old club
benteke tell him stay up field
    simple 442

  95. james g- Guzan said how great it was to have senderos organising us so you may be right on Given getting a recall. to be honest I feared the worst for us if we lost only 2-3 of the starters especially senderos, we have lost all shape without him, the only good thing we had going

  96. Guzan needs dropping. He’s needed dropping for ages

Steamer- I thought that as well when Lamberk said it. No way he would have known what Lowton was doing. He was telling the fans to F off

James- Great post. Agree with everything but Lamberk won’t play 442. He will bottle to and park the bus

Hoping it’s his last game. If spurs batter is, so be it

    Bye bye Lamberk

  97. A quick plea.
Can we stop the insults about the manager on here. They don’t add anything to the discussions.
Lambert’s clearly struggling and its not surprising he’s coming in for criticism but this site used to be better when it rose above cheap insults.

  98. Observations on the fool that’s destroying this club, the man is absolutely loathed by the fans who he has failed and the insults are accurate, he gets enough of your money under false pretences so fuck him.

  99. Stan Collymore saying we have had tentative talks with Pullis

No world beater but he’s in a different class to Lamberk

Hopefully Spurs will finish him off.

We could lose 5-1 tomorrow and the fact we scored will be enough to keep him in the job.

An early Spurs goal to get the chants going

  100. mark
vlar has been here now for 85 league matches i dont know how many he has missed probably up on 40% of them and how many wins yet he played 6 matches in world cup in 3 weeks what was paid and his wages no big loss sendross looks better
delph owes villa big time and if he doesnt want to repay it run off and sit on bench somewhere else

    robbo
i would take pulis over crap we have every day of week as for giving lambert abuse he giving me nightmares for 3 years and he getting about 1m a year for it

  101. Mark- Lamberk ain’t gunna them either.

Not bothered on Vlaar anymore. He’s always injured and his performance on Monday was shocking.

    Just want him gone

Collymore making crap up,again. Now said the club are behind him

They wouldn’t tell him he’s on the verge of the sack anyway

  102. Don’t mean I just want Vlaar gone, ment Lamberk. Vlaar has to up his game though

WBA league 2 manager has got them above us now. FFS

  103. All sorts of items on twitter :
“@InsideAVilla: Gabby & Lambert had a disagreement over Monday nights game which led to unsavory scenes between them Vlaar stuck up for Gabby @AVFCOfficial”. Not sure how true this is of course . Also , Collymore has tweeted that AV have contacted Pullis “about a role at AV”. Bham Mail are now running this story .

  104. “Stan Collymore sparked controversy on Twitter with a claim that Aston Villa have ‘tentatively sounded out’ Tony Pulis about a role at the club.”

Question is why is Collymore going public unless he has proper evidence of this? If the club have leaked this on purpose – why ? .

  105. Jenny- Then he said the board are backing him after speaking to someone at twitter

Not sure what he’s on but he does spout some shite. Not sure why Villa would tell him anything

Just hope there is something in the Pullis rumour though. Anyone will do.

  106. I saw that Frem – it’s a total contradiction and it’s almost like he tweeted the Pullis thing then tried to back track saying that the club back PL 100%. Unless Pullis is being considered fir Director of Football or similar . But I can’t see this either . It’s a mystery .

  107. james/frem vlaar is injury prone and so is senders but they are our best pair, I would be amazed if pulis could make clarke a center half and a baker clarke combo is a nightmare, Vlaar baker nope, senders baker passable, clarke plus anyone nope. one thing I think would happen is Okore would play

  108. Everyone knows he’s thick but this quote from Crappy takes the biscuit “Why move from a club as big as Aston Villa when we are not a million miles from being back up there ?”
    Priceless, pure comedy gold.

if its true that Lambert has the full support of Lerner and Fox then there’s not much point in supporting this pile of shite, lets hope Spuds do a Bournemouth it may change a few opinions. Can see Kane having a field day.

  109. Steamer- Gabby is as thick on the pitch as he is off it

26 months of pain to end today, after another 90 mins of pain. spurs will batter us and that will hopefully be that for the Berk. If not. An early goal will get the chants the going. If not today, then we will lose our next 3, then maybe that’s enough for the sack

It will be the same old shite system today. Park the bus, get passed of the park and defend like a Sunday league team

” We want our Villa back”

  110. Loving the different team selections but the truth is we can put out our best eleven and we will still get beat because the problem will always be Lambert, they are not playing for him because he doesn’t have a clue.
Loving the stories about the lulus brilliant pure fiction as usual that lot are so deluded it’s actually pitiful even when we are so shite they manage to be worse than us.
Mark I hope those four white fivers got there safe and sound.
I am going to endure the game think afternoon just to hear the chants of Lambert Out.
    AVFC RIP

  111. Why keep coming out with foolish statements like Lambert does, then, they come back to bite him every time?
An easy way to lose the support of the fans is keep coming out with bullshine which is never backed up.
Lambert would be better off trying to improve results rather than trying to make the fans any more irate.
I suppose bullshine is what he does best, so it’s easy to carry on doing that.

  112. Guy on goals on Sunday said Pat Murphy was actually questioning Lamberk and he didn’t have answers. He basically said to him that Villa being crap isn’t a one of, it’s been a regular thing for 26 months

    Lamberk has no answer

He also said there are deep issues in the dressing room

  113. Frem,
If that’s the case then why prolong our suffering ? Lerner would probably wait until we’re already down before he decides anything. Remember when McKnob was booted, Lerner was at VP for the Bolton game which made his decision for him, he’s been to VP once since so he doesn’t get any abuse, he’ll be watching from his cupboard in NY with his fingers in his ears.
As regards Lambert, no ability, no integrity and no class, he’s kidding himself that he’s a Pep, Mourinho or LvG, he got booted by Livingstone FFS !

  114. steamer,

I’m fine mate, hope you are as well.
I’m just saddened at the decline of AVFC, and worse still, that fans are still trying to make excuses for Lambert and Lerner.
I find it hard to believe that some fans are still backing these two, even though records are being broken for all the wrong reasons. How much convincing will it take before they face the obvious, that, with those two at the helm we are heading into oblivion.
