Tonight, Villa chase a third successive league victory on the heels of 3-0 and 2-1 wins against Barnsley and Nottingham Forest. Currently sitting ninth, Villa could, perhaps surprisingly, climb into the playoff spots with a win and other results going our way.
Forest pay us a visit sitting three spots and two points above us in 10th. We’re riding the coat-tails of a 3-0 away win to Barnsley, and you’d like to think we can and should grab another three points.
Cup ties haven’t been much to look forward to for Villa the last several years. This season might not be so different except for the fact that Villa have a deep squad and a number of players looking to either reclaim their places or earn further consideration as future starters.
Three goals, three points. A clean sheet. Away. Cause for celebration, indeed. Beleaguered Steve Bruce got the result he, and the team, desperately needed as they ultimately cruised to a 3-0 win at Barnsley.
The September of Truth has so far yielded two points, and no goals. Villa sit 20th, with seven points from the campaign to date, and a negative-two goal differential. No wonder Bruce is getting annoyed by the vultures.
