The club have made a statement with regards to the current predicament which is listed below:

Club Statement by the Chairman and CEO

Right now everyone connected with Villa is hurting badly.

A win was in sight last night against Bolton after a strong start and the tenacity the team displayed, although ultimately we weren’t able to hold on for the points.

We very openly acknowledge the frustrations of Villa fans and share in them completely.

What matters to us and the Board at this moment is how we, as a Club, handle adversity and the pressure it brings.

Our horizon is the next three games and we continue to be in control of our own destiny.

Young players side-by-side with more senior players are fighting hard for the Club.

They are now preparing for West Brom followed by Spurs and Norwich.

We will continue to support and rely on our manager and the squad and therefore give them our full support.

We are totally conscious, as is everyone at the Club, that this is a very trying time for those who love Aston Villa.

We know that the team will continue to fight through every minute of the remaining games and we hope Villa fans will continue to show their great support.

Turvey’s Thought

Much criticism will be leveled at the management over the coming weeks by fans, and understandably so. The statement released by the club, however, means nothing and says nothing.

All they have effectively come out and said is that the team will try their best which, if we are honest, is something we are all hoping can turn out to be true. Nobody, despite statements some may make in fits of rage, wants our club to lose. Anyone who does is not a fan – simple as.

I understand that people think that losing games may be a logical way to show that the manager should not be at the club but, as fans, we should never wish for our team to fail – there are no parameters that dictate that our personal belief, or a lack thereof, should supercede the successes of our club.

If we could win all of the games from now on, and do something significant, I am all for it although, in my opinion, I still think change has to come. Three games in a row won, even as unlikely as that is, can not overshadow the poor quality of football this season, merely spare McLeish the ignominy of three relegations in four years.

So, in summary, forget the club’s statement, as it does what their statements always do – says nothing and shows nothing.

Change will be coming and we, the fans, have control over that if we put our minds to it.
