Aston Villa finish their pre-season with a 1-1 draw against Braga with Charles N’Zogbia scoring on his debut for the club.

Villa conceded first to an Alan goal from 25 yards out which gave Given no chance. The first half was a fairly dull affair with very little penetration by Villa, with the only real movement coming through the danger of Charles N’Zogbia.

N’Zogbia then added a goal to his contribution to the friendly and looked, by far, the most dangerous player on the pitch. Hopefully we can see more from him in terms of goals this season as, not only does he have the potential to create goals but he scores a lot too, with 10 goals from midfield for a relegation threatened Wigan. Dare I say it, it would also be a positive for Aston Villa to have goals coming through more than just Darren Bent latching on to final balls.

Braga managed to hit the woodwork as well in the first half, as well as a disallowed offside goal in the second half.

Villa maintained a 44% possession statistic. Whilst possession alone is not the only statistic worth reading, it is indicative of how the game was played. Low possession is okay if you convert it to goals, but with a 1-1 draw, it isn’t the best indicator.

So what did you make of it? Did you watch it? Was it just an exercise in fitness?
