This weekend is going to be a tense affair as we will have the two most hated people attached to Aston Villa club management in recent times in the same place, at the same time.

At the minute, there is not much to sing about, but what I urge you all to do is get behind the team at the game. The fractures within the support will be evident on Saturday – those that cheer for Martin O’Neill and those that boo for example – but we still have a game to win, and enough problems of our own to not worry about what has been and gone.

We have to support our team – there is no other constructive option.

Now when I say “support out team”, I am not talking about the manager, owner, or CEO – I am talking about the 11 players put out in front of us. They don’t need any excuse to distract them, but we need the points and the players will need our support.

We could possibly have another young team out and, hopefully we will see Carruthers given his debut. We certainly need the “no fear” element to our team now more than ever, and the youth of our team could be the unexpected saviour to our terrible season.

These players have a future at the club, and they are playing for that future at their club. Come the end of the season, many of the older players will be going and, whether we care to admit it to ourselves or not, those players don’t care about us as fans, or the club in general.

I know there are protests planned for later this season, and they are going to happen, but that has to wait for now. What is important at present is just to be loud, and roar our team on to victory.

O’Neill presence is a moot point in my opinion – yes he managed us, but in his time at the club all he did was spend money and win nothing. People can point to his “achievements” but the fact is we didn’t win a single thing under him – sixth is not winning anything. We have far too much going on at our club to be worrying about a guy who left us anyway so, in my opinion, the best thing to do re: O’Neill is nothing – just ignore him as he is irrelevant to us now.

The Sunderland game is the first of two winnable games back to back, so we can only Alex McLeish goes for it, and sets out the team to attack. No more of this playing a formation that hasn’t worked all season, do something different Alex. If you’re reading this, take note. If anyone else at the club is reading this, tell Alex not to continue with the same ineffective tactics and show the man the table! Our position doesn’t lie – we haven’t been good enough!

Our destiny is our own hands if we can just try and attack so let’s show the country we won’t go down meekly – we will survive or die trying!

For now, we need to support the club. Come the end of the season, everyone should do what they see fit about protesting or renewing/not renewing. Until then, all we can do is support.

Keep the lions flag flying higg, because Aston Villa will never die – no matter what.
