I was going to write a piece today about my trip to Bodymoor Heath earlier this week, and take the time to tell you all how wonderful our club is, how exceptional the facilities are, and how friendly and polite all of the staff are.

I was going to tell you about how the players where a pleasure to meet, how bumping into Gary Gardner and Richard Dunne was surreal, about how cool Carlos Cuellar is, just how massive (and I really mean HUGE) Guzan is, and just what a polite guy Alex McLeish was, and how it was a pleasure to actually meet him.

Now I wanted to talk about all all of that because it truly was a great experience, something for me to treasure, and it reminded me just how proud I am to be an Aston Villa fan and how proud I am of the club.

Positive Thoughts On Ration At Present

The problem is that it seems like nobody wants to hear the positives of the clb – everybody (seemingly) wants to hear doom and gloom, preferring to focus on the negatives of our situation rather than the positives.

People are throwing stats round like confetti to justify why they are continuously butchering the club, the owner, the CEO, the manager, and the players.

As an example Gabriel Agbonlahor, the player who most represents Aston Villa, got made captain and all over the internet, be it twitter, other blogs or Facebook, fans are already sharpening their knives, waiting for that first slip up so they can slate the guy.

What’s wrong with us? Agbonlahor bleeds claret and blue, he is everything good about the club, but yet some still can’t, or won’t see the good in it.

We have spent most of the season discussing all of the things that have gone wrong, especially why this that and the other has happened. I honestly feel like everything has been discussed, and argued about, then discussed a little bit more, but for what? Where has all that got us?

Nothing has changed as a result. The manager is still here, the owners are still here, and the players still play how they want to. The only thing that has changed is we have probably only supported the team half heartedly for many games this season, whilst some haven’t even bothered to do that because of everything being thrown around.

We are where we are. This season is all about the next eight games that are left, and how we do in them will be the difference between success and failure. I have my thoughts and beliefs, and I have expressed those as many of you will have seen. However, many of my views are seen as blind faith because of this statistic or that statistic.

Positivity Really Is A Choice & It Can Be Good For You

In order to show people why I am the way I am, I want to explain a little about why my belief is where it is. For me, it is simple – you have two teams. One invariably has spent slightly more on players, whilst the other has spent slightly less. For the most part, all the spending does is increase the chances of one team winning rather than the other. I’m sure you’ll agree with me on that.

Now on the day a number of variables that we do not see can will affect the result such as confidence, and this effect always has an outcome on the game. Confidence isn’t the only factor though – there are too many to list – but they are always there, and they play a part.

Add to this mix, the pressures and expectations of the fans, and you have a complete set of variables that no one has any control over, but could change the game in one way or the other. Some might like to call it lucky, Alex liked to call it earlier this week, “the gods”.

Now being a positive person, I tend to believe that the variables will play into our hands and benefit us. They haven’t up till now but it will change -sooner or later – it has to.

Now it doesn’t matter what you think of the past with regards to how we approach our future. The games that are in the past are just that – in the past. All that matters now is our club, and what we do from here. The team has had it rough lately for various reasons, both injuries, decisions not going our way, and the unfortunate situation regarding our captain.

In order to move forwards, we need to help them by backing them anyway we can. To do that,I urge you to get to any of the remaining games if you can, and let’s get behind the team, including McLeish (regardless of your personal thoughts on him), and try to make the lion our badge roar the way it used to!

Our team needs us now – are we going to answer that call?
