Habib Beye has left Aston Villa this evening by mutual consent. The 34-year old, often criticised by fans as one of the big earners who failed to cement a place in the first XI, is now free to make his loan move at Doncaster Rovers a permanent one.

Beye made just 15 starts for the club, with three more as a substitute after arriving from Newcastle United in August 2009, after winning Newcastle’s player of the season award in a year where they were relegated.

Turvey’s Thought

In my opinion, Beye was a move gone wrong rather than the sign of a truly bad player. When a player wins player of the season for a former club, admittedly in a season where Newcastle lost their Premier League place, they don’t generally turn out to be that bad.

Sadly for Beye, whether down to differences with his managers, or inability to perform in training, he never really got enough of a run in the team to display his best, with successive right backs all struggling with issues ever since.

So maybe Beye’s exit is actually a loss to the club, even though the wage removal may well help the budget, as the right back position has been an issue, and still appears to be an issue given Alan Hutton’s current form.

The big question is this – is Habib Beye’s wage going to be one way to fund keeping Robbie Keane? As a Villa fan, we can but hope.
