The club have been able to confirm that Stephen Warnock has joined Bolton Wanderers on a 92-day emergency loan. With Warnock clearly surplus to requirements, the move will be a positive step for him and the club itself. However, due to the remaining length of the left back’s contract, Aston Villa are unlikely to see any money from a deal, if they even manage to sell him in the January window.

Warnock, formerly of Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers, has endured a challenging period of his career since the late days of Martin O’Neill, with later managers either choosing not to use him, or being unable to get continued positive performances out of him, in the eyes of fans at least.

Fans may well be surprised to know, however, that Warnock topped a table for interceptions in his position last season, though this may well say more about Alex McLeish’s inability to stop the ball further up the pitch than the work of a world class full back.

Despite Warnock’s falling out of favour with fans, I’d like to wish him all the best in his loan move and hope that he can find a way to make the deal permanent to ensure he gets playing time for the remainder of his career.

Full details will emerge on the official site in time I imagine, but they are yet to release an article.
