Whilst the news has not been officially mentioned on Aston Villa’s website (no surprises there – we had the photos of Shay Given before they went up on the OS), Paul Lambert has confirmed the deal bringing Jordan Bowery to the club from Chesterfield.

Bowery, a 6ft 1 striker having plied most of his career at League One and League Two level may well not be a big name signing but with Paul Lambert managing to get the most out of Grant Holt, a player who was seen by many as a journeyman when Norwich were promoted to the Premier League, the future for players look bright.

Lambert is clearly building a team, and one that will take time. The likes of Joe Bennett and Matthew Lowton may well walk into the team directly, but Bowery seems to be one for the future because the likes of Darren Bent and Gabriel Agbonlahor will no doubt start ahead of him, and if the moves for other strikers that the club have been linked to come off, Bowery would be pushed further back in terms of starting.

One thing that is evident from Lambert’s moves is that he will not be casting his net in as tight a niche as some former managers. Whilst Villa have had a somewhat proud history of nurturing mainly British players, Lambert’s moves seem to indicate that he sees more to the team than just home based players with Karim El-Ahmadi and Ron Vlaar both showing positive signs already.

Deadline day promises to be a busy one with Villa linked with multiple players, and likely to be linked with more.
