Paul Lambert has come out today to state that there will be more transfers and that, in an ideal world, they would all be here today rather than waiting for them to transpire. Lambert was honest enough to state that he understands that the reality of today’s market shows that delays are inevitable, especially when looking for the best price for a player – something Aston Villa fans have not been used to in recent times.

Lambert’s stringent control of the budget he has been assigned – one of the main reasons that Villa’s board was so keen on the young manager – has indicated a willingness to understand that the club need depth, but without panicking about getting the players in at an over-budget price.

Lambert stated: “In an ideal world, you’d like to get everyone in right from the off but that’s an impossibility. I’m pretty sure it will go a long way this month but we will definitely try and get people in to give them a hand.

“The group certainly needs a hand to enhance it, that’s for sure. It’s like anything, people come and people go at a football club and that’s the nature of the game”

With Lambert understanding the needs of the club – most notably a dwindling squad that still contains many highly paid players – progress has a certain degree of inevitability, though with a refreshing understanding from fans that it won’t be demanded instantly.

Assuming fans can restrain their composure and expectations as well as Villa’s steely-eyed manager, the future looks bright for fans of the club from B6.
