I have seen over the last few days a complete flip in the attitude of Villa fans toward our situation. Now it seems we are happy as long as we see commitment and application from our team during a game, which should really be a given if we are honest. Am I alone in feeling that this isn’t enough?

I am aware that this will take time. I am aware that we will get better with time, and I am aware of everything you probably will want to tell me. But am I wrong in wanting a little bit more and a little bit sooner?

After all we are talking about 11 millionaires who are paid to perform once a week. We have quality within our squad, and a number of internationals. However, we now seen accepting of whatever results are thrown at us because we are in transition.

I haven’t commented recently mainly because, being Mr. Positive, I don’t want to seem as though I am creating a downer, but this change in philosophy and playing style shouldn’t be that hard or take that long surely?

After all, it is a squad of people being asked to play football either in a way they have played before or have studied. This is their job; this is what they do. We use the change in philosophy as an excuse to accept results that we wouldn’t normally, and I don’t understand why.

Our team are paid obscene amounts of cash to do what most of us would love to do in the drop of a hat. We can understand the difference in playing styles, formations, and every other type of football-related change to a team that can be made, even with full time jobs and families, etc. Yet we are accepting that people who get paid to do this professionally should be given longer and I don’t understand why.

If I get asked to do my job from a different office, with different people, I am expected to be able to do it. Doesn’t matter where the office is or who the people are—it’s expected because that is my job and I am a professional at it, or so I tell everyone. Am I being unreasonable by expecting the same from professional athletes and a manager being paid millions in the process?

Positivity

Yes, I am positive, believe it or not, but I see the Newcastle game as the change, period, and the beginning. I don’t expect us to go backwards from there and I expect the only other drop in performance to come from the introduction of our new players.

Even so, this should only be minor as they train with each other every day. I am positive the change is a good one and positive that the effect will be nothing but a good one for our club. I just expect the change a little bit faster than most and I don’t think I am being too unfair considering the amount of money involved.

I do expect bumps and lows. However, I won’t continuously put this down to the transition and the changes, because I expect the players and manager to cope with this—that’s what they get paid to do, after all.
