With news that we might be taking another Spurs youngster in on loan rather than look at someone we already have, I wanted to have a look at what this means for Villa and whether loans are actually worth it, as well as have a little rant.

You see I don’t think you should be allowed to loan to or from another club in the same division, as essentially we are taking all the risk and the parent club are getting all the reward. Don’t believe me? Look at Kyle Walker. What worries me is Danny Rose could be another Kyle Walker. Yes, he comes in, he excites us, he gets us off our seats, he bonds with the fans and then we send him back a completed player who then goes to become an international and what have Aston Villa got? Nothing but a season of good performances and a dent on the wage bill.

Can’t, or don’t, we have one of our own youth products that we could take a chance on? Would it not make more financial and footballing sense for us to play and develop one of our own youth team? And if the youth player in that position isn’t good enough then why is he on our books taking a wage? This raises so many questions for me that I could be here all day, but hopefully you understand and see where I am coming from.

Loans are great for players to get game time, I agree 100%, but having players loaned to teams in the same league is surely just saving the parent club a lot of time and taking the risk away from developing their youth. I agree with players going out on loan, much like our youth does to a lower division to get game time, but why should we become the Tottenham youth development school?

Surely the club need to start thinking that a little short-term benefit will only cost us in the long term. Danny Rose, or any player we take on loan, might come in and do a job, but when we send him back at the end of the loan we are still left with the problem of finding someone for the position and left with a sour taste as the player we have helped develop goes back to his parent club and goes on to be a star.

I just don’t think that loans will benefit my club, and after all that’s all I am interested in.

So there is my rant. I have no doubt that Danny Rose may come in and become, or be, a brilliant player. The trouble is, it will be at the cost of one of our youth products and strengthen one of our competitors and I just don’t see the point.

Seasons coming, not long now, and we glow in the dark!
