Well, you could say that the owner of the club has drilled down to the basement. He’s worked his way through every tactic that only he understands and now he’s got to the bottom floor he’s probably ready to admit there’s nothing left to build on without a massive re-think of how matters have been conducted, what has been done wrong in those processes and what grand plan is needed to get back to viability and a semblance of hope worthy of this great football club.

But while all this monkeying around has been taking place, the fans (in the main) have been made to be distraught. Those that are not hide their pain and demonstrate a wonderful sense of humour; people like the fans that perpetually go to every away match and generally survive their experience through a song or two. They are the great minority but, importantly, the core of the club’s support. Without them a football club would almost certainly die, but while they’re still around there’s a basis for optimism.

In one sense it must be how Britain was feeling in 1940, after losing its one remaining ally (France) and its core armed forces somehow escaping via Dunkirk. Somehow, Britain had to work from that basement, but luckily we had a leader who was able to rally everyone to the cause and, more, use every guile to outwit the opposing forces and come out of 1940 with a moral advantage.

Aston Villa needs a similar sense of purpose born out of near desperation and this (to my mind) is the best test of Steven Hollis. The test is whether he and Mervyn King and the latest board members can provide the previously missing leadership at the club in order to set a fair course and have a firm strategy to achieve it. That, I believe, is the real test of the review taking place, for without adroit leadership and a sound strategy coming out of the review, the review itself will mostly be worthless.

The situation is serious. So serious I suggest that the board actually needs to have a visible indication from the fans of how much we need them to sort this matter out, a matter which many hold dear to their hearts. Shouting and demonstrating to get “Lerner Out” (with the help of Spurs fans!) is alright to a point, but as the board is allegedly already looking seriously into the plight of the club then I think the demonstration banners should now read more like “Wanted: A plan of action to celebrate 150 years of history in style!”

New plans for the club cannot be implemented in a short time. Not even in one season. Therefore, just as in 1968/9, it needs to be accepted that a time for re-building has to be allowed, with a visible target of a 150th birthday (in 8 years’ time) as a vision for a grand accomplishment. Whether a realistic target is winning the Premiership or simply finishing in the top-4 I leave someone else to decide.

But for the remainder of this season, let’s have some joy. Let us please see fresh (young) talent so that we can share their enthusiasm and give them our backing. Even though we’re virtually certain of relegation, it would be nice to see Traore back and creating mayhem in the Newcastle defence. And – who knows – Green thriving off his service.

  1. Another great leader JL.

I am of the same mind, and want to see the likes of Green and a few more joining the French boys, and giving their all for the claret & blue shirt.

The rebuilding is going to take a while, and if Remi stays, it certainly will provide some continuity over the summer break.

  2. Welcome to the John Lerwill Blog.

Again you write with an optimism that must be respected, I hope we have the people at the club that can make a plan to get us back to those halcyon days, to make the club a saleable prospect and remove those who have caused damage that will take years to put right.

It is going to be a long hard journey but one us long suffering fans have seen before and although the landscape has changed somewhat we all know it can be done, I remember going to York in one of our early third division away days, I think there was about 10k in the crowd and 8,000 of them were Villans, I thought to myself that day that if we stuck by the club we would eventually recover and in 82 there I was stood next to Steamer watching Mortimer hold the European Cup aloft.

  3. Afternoon all,
Just want to go back to a comment swv made on the previous thread. It went as follows:

“Is that the word of the day continuity, agree with what you say we need to put some pride back into the club, we need players who understand what it means to play for a club like Aston Villa, the likes of McGrath, Mellberg, Laursen etc all realised how important it was to represent this great institution, most of this lot have not got a clue and see it as a means to earn money they couldn’t spell pride if their lives depended on it.
It may take a while but that Lion will roar once more, we may have to take a lot of pain in between times but we will again take our place where we belong.”

I just thought what a great thing to write mate and so true to us old gits. And that last sentence almost bought a tear to my eye.
Nice one swv!! Maybe I stood by you and Steamer in ’82 ………….
And yes I remember going to York, great days. The first away in the 3rd was at Chesterfield if you remember and we took thousands …… jumping up and down in our end on them railway sleepers and all the dust coming out of them …….
Thanks for another great leader JL, I think we all know where we’re going and yes, we have to have continuity and get back to doing things the old Villa way. Maybe the seeds are now being sown ……..

  4. Stated it in the last comment, it’s taken years to be this crap, it will take years to get back to where we should be providing a challenge to the established top 4/5 and playing decent football.

Completely agree, the plan needs to be put in place now. Elements of the plan deemed fit to share with the AVFC public should be shared with supporters groups/ blog owners/the AVST etc and get their buy in with this long term plan.

It’s only by the board being open with fans, can fans feel engaged with the club and buy into the plan. It does require patience, there is no quick fix for 10 years of mis-management. But with a core support, AVFC can return to the top division and not just participate.

Next season is actually going to be the first season in a long time that Villa will have aims to achieve. We can’t seriously consider ourselves contenders in the prem on day one but we have to believe we can achieve next season. What a change for us Villa supporters to have something to support that can drive us forward.

We may lose some happy clappers and prem league gloryholes but the core support will remain, I’ll be there, I know most on here will be aswell.

  5. OldVilla,

I would have thought you was pretty close by on that fantastic night, I remember Chesterfield away in fact wasn”t that the season when we played them about six times in the league and cup replays, seemed like every other game was against that lot.

Remember going to Notts County and pissing in pint glasses and pouring it down the cracks in the wooden stands you can”t do that in these new fangled all seater bowls.

    SWV

  6. Hit the nail right on the head again John.
    Old Villa,
I think 90% wore White Levi Sta Prest that day, they weren’t white at 20 to five though. There were five or six of us going to every away game together during that period and it was a truly great time transcending football. Of course their was a downside, having to put up with SWV jabbering on about his latest Ken Dodd album, but i’d give even that to see the success of those days return.
    DOR,
As Birminghams only football club our support will always be there, always be proud of the Burgundy and Blue. What ? did i say something ?

  7. Brilliant read JL

We are at a crossroads for sure and it is hard to allow myself too much room for optimism – but

Firstly the appointments of Mervin , Brian and Steven , I have to say that they are 3 people that actually come from a very successful background

The departures gone and expected are they guys that have put us were we are with the owners backing

It looks to me like the penny has finally dropped for Randy and finally sensible appointments are being made

  8. What did he actually do?! Happy he has gone but he was hardly the problem, the man was here less than a year, we have been shit for 5! Anyhow fox and reilly next please.

Interesting sounds lke we will keep with the spirting director position, looking for a new one

  9. Morning fellers,

Well we wake up to another day and no more news of sackings yet! 😉

I’m impatient, aren’t I? Well, at least something has been moving its bum to change the situation a tad. I don’t know that it’s enough for us to achieve a win against the Swans though, but this latest run of defeats has got to stop. As has been said, we might as well throw all caution out of the window at this point and just throw on some keen players.

  10. BTW, I enjoyed reading about those old third division experiences.

I went to a couple of away matches too during that time while living in the south-east – a visit to Brighton I remember well – mainly for a Bruce Rioch strike and a parking ticket.

  11. We might well get a result against Swansea as for whatever reason they seem to give up if facing a supposed top 8 side. Hopefully green will see a start, GG scored a screamer last night for forest

  12. Blimey he gave that some welly, great technique to him a ball like that when its rolled across you.
Well done Fox for getting him away from our team.

  13. Archie,

Remember going to Burnley we went in this chip shop Rosco had fish and chips, pie and chips and sausage and chips and he said to the bird behind the counter put them all in the same paper, you should have seen her face, quality.

    SWV

  14. Great start to the investigation, a man like Fox and Riley, hired into a position above their experience.

With Fox as the hiring manager for Almstadt, he is now on very shaky ground, if he wasn’t before. I expect that finding a new ‘qualified’ CEO will take longer and that may account for Fox staying in situ for longer than anyone wants.

Great to see positive news coming out of VP.

    FOLAF

  15. We could do worse than bring Baker, Gardner, Robinson back next season all have got championship experience that will prove useful they are better than some of the cretins who currently wear our shirts.

    SWV

  16. What did we know about Almatadt other than he was German and he worked at the Arse, just looked on the official website on the whos who at VP and Almstadts name has disappeared and so has Rileys.

    SWV

  17. SWV,
And then he did a runner.

Wonder what the estimates are for Fox’s folly –
    3m wages for himself.
3 yrs compo for Lamebert 3 months into a ridiculous contract awarded by Fox.
3 yr contract for Tim who lasted 6 months.
    3 yrs for Wilkins
    3 yrs for Robson
    5 years for Scabby.
    3 yrs for Wastewood.
    3 yrs for Clark
    3 yrs for Bacuna
None of who can get a game bar Westewood who’s crepe.
That’s an awful lot of $$$$$ down the gurgler.

Correct me if i’m mistaken but someone did say he was culpable for events at VP over the last 16 months, can’t think who though. Answers on a beer mat.

  18. Steamer,

Rosco doing a runner now theres an oxymoron.

We have to remember Russell has already gone and what part did he play in the current mess at VP, did he go voluntarily or was he pushed by Hollis, the truth will eventually come out.

    SWV

  19. could the nightmare be coming to an end ? and could this be the beginnings of something fresh and exciting for villa
if things are done in the correct manner at the club there is no doubt Villa will be a giant in the championship that should really be able to build a team that we gobble up that division

hopefully with the likes of Little involved and hopefully equally sensible people at board level we can build a team that will also go on to bigger and better things after promotion

    we live in hope

has st75 defected behind the iron curtain ?

  20. Agree Runtingz, just that little ray of hope appearing. The word legend is vastly overused in todays society, Brian Little is a true Villa legend and by today’s values, if Rooney is 200m then BL must be worth a billion.

Someone’s sent a ransom note attached to an ear, is anyone missing an elephant ?

  21. Media suggestion is Hollis had talks with Garde re Almstadt and hey presto P45 issued.

Does this by inference mean that Hollis is placing his eggs in the Garde basket longer term, which while not music to every Lifer’s ears. I’d be very happy to see a Garde team made up of players he wants mixed with some of our homegrown talent getting a chance.

As i mentioned above, Fox is on shaky ground given one of his appointments has got the chop and given Hollis looks to have the power now, it places Fox in further difficulty because his own power is diminished.

With the boardroom changes, do we have the greenshoots to cling to, I’m feeling a lot more positive about the long term future in Hollis’ hands, just need a new owner to invest.

    FOLAF

  22. DOR,

We live in hope, Hollis ably abetted by King, Bernstein and Little will look into these peoples roles and what they bought to the AVFC table, Russell gone Almstadt gone, Fox and Riley hanging on by their finger nails.

I would also look into the appointment made by Fox of CCO Charlie Wijeratna because I have no trust in anything Fox touches.

And while we are at it I would also take a look into exactly what General Krulac offers the club other than being the eyes and ears for Randolph, if he has nothing positive to offer then fill that seat with someone of better value.

May the cull continue and good riddance to them all.

    SWV

  23. DO’R: “I expect that finding a new ‘qualified’ CEO will take longer and that may account for Fox staying in situ for longer than anyone wants.”

I think you’re right on that … However, I wouldn’t be surprised if he stays but has to justify his decisions to the chairman more objectively.

  24. The financial shortcomings may actually help us, as DOR remarked, a few u21’s mixed with some decent signings could give us momentum.

Fox is indefensible, made a balls up of everything and on top of which he’s an odious twat.
What about Ian Ayre who’s just left Liverpool.
Fox and Charlie W haven’t exactly improved our finances have they ? jobs for the boys, both yanks and they pass on they’re good fortune to Arsenal rejects too, whatever happened to being qualified for a job instead of who you know.

  25. Too many to count James so lets blame him for everything including the budget.
Brian Little cold be the unifier for AVFC and its fans, he’s never been scared to speak his mind and has a great passion for our club. I expect him to become a full director when the committee see how diligently he works.
So many stories about him as a player, the goal against L’Pool in the 5-1 was stunning, the LC Final at the theatre of BS was another, shame Kevin Keegan ended his England career.

  26. Just watched the U21 highlights from last night and we beat arsenal 1-0 and they were unbeaten in 7, second time this season we stuffed them. Jerrel sellers cannot be far off a run, clever little player.
And Davies is very technically gifted, puts gabby and Gestede to shame. Quite a few worth a look at I think so come next year with a bit more growing we could have a decent crop come through.

  27. Well i’m done for another day’s work, Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you all tomorrow. Don’t forget to drown the shamrock with a stout or two or in my case Bulmers (not the English one as it’s rank, you know it as Magners) but I’m partial to a Thatchers Old Rascal if you could only get it here.

    FOLAF

  28. Ah yes Steamer but now the official Burgundy and blue pages have announced to their customers that Tom Fox has left the club …………………… yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

  29. Ding dong the fox is gone, great news and he’ll help the club transition, ah bless.

And the general is back as a full board member, great having the warmongering mouthpiece of Lerner playing a full role in Villa, thank god people of greater experience like Bernstein are there.

    FOLAF

  30. Have you read Fox’s statement ? the most deluded piece of shite seen since Neville Chamberlain alighted at Munich Airport. Still trying to kid us, resigned ? you were booted muppet.

  31. The loony still trusts ‘the American way’ he just can’t get his head around the facts that they haven’t a club about football, Brummies or England, which is surprising considering we have some very knowledgable fans in the USA and indeed Worldwide..

  32. Thats a very strange decision having krulak back! Reily, wjinlam, garde will be gone soon. And maybe we can stop mucking about with decisions and experimenting and get more proper football people in. Id be sooooo happy if we got moyes in.

  33. So Dwight Yorke has thrown his name into the hat to replace Garde, “they need someone who knows the place” ‘scuse me but the club has completely changed since you infested it, believe me this lowlife wouldn’t last a season, he’ll probably get it though if Remi decides to leave.

  34. I think Lerner is paranoid, he needs a spy at the club. What qualifications Krulak has to improve AVFC i don’t know, what is obvious is that he knows f-all about footy.

  35. Exactly Steamer, Lerner’s eyes and ears on his ‘investment’ but dread to think when the board discuss football requirements as opposed to military tactics what his contribution would be.

    Down to FOL now

  36. Everything was going so well and then they promote Krulak, again I fail to make any sense out of this and what can actually be achieved by it.
He has no knowledge of the game and can offer nothing positive, if he is put in place to appease Lerner then Hollis and co are not doing their job in the correct fashion, every decision made from now on must be for the good of AVFC so I feel this is one step backwards after appointing Brian Little.
We are a strange club at the moment we seem intent on self harm, I for the life of me cannot fathom what they are up to.

    SWV

  37. We can just hope that Krulak is just there to keep an eye on Lerner’s interests and doesn’t actually interfere otherwise.

It seems that Carlos Sanchez should be available for Swansea. Adama Traore and Jack Grealish should be fit after the break.

  38. DOR,
Down to FOL now – Lets hope we don’t have to wait long before you can delete it.
    SWV,
It highlights the fact that Lerner is stupid.

So Tom expects us to believe that four months after arriving he had a meeting with the dummy and decided that his job had changed and he should depart ? Does he actually know the meaning of the word honesty ? Face it muppet you were SACKED, FIRED, BOOTED, RELEASED FUCKED OFF, LET GO and hopefully any new prospective employers look at the job you didn’t do at VP and tell you to bugger off resulting in you joining your fellow idiot residing in skid row.

  39. Fox was always going to go sooner rather than later. Almstat going as well is only good. Now for riley. Randy won’t be gone anytime soon

What for Remi though? I get the feeling he could be sacked if we lose tomorrow. I think he will go in the summer for sure

Only problem is a new man will probably keep most the wankers. Garde would get most out

    I’d keep 3 or 4 current players. That’s it

  40. It looks like Hollis has been taking advice from Stan Collymore with the recent axe in the board room.

The position of Fox was untenable, I am sure he is glad to be gone. He had to hire two bouncers to keep him safe. He milked the club for his £1.2M salary and made so many bad decisions it was ridiculous. He did not have a clue about football and that was his downfall. Fox turned out to be the false narrative. I wonder is he still believes he was building something special at Villa?

The real problem at the club is Lerner. We have underinvested in the team over 5 years and the financial position is woeful. These problems cannot be resolved overnight. The Championship waits for Villa and I believe this will be a graveyard for us.

  41. Krulak has probably been placed on the board to prevent any recurrence of the likes of Fox, making a hash of things, and making sure there is a balance in future, and that Randy is more aware of what is happening , before it is too late, which is what has happened since Fox has been here.

Good to see you are getting upbeat again Frem. I also feel that Swansea match could be a turning point for Villa, and we may finish the season on a high.

I think a few of our under 21’s could be involved now, and having Danchez back will help.

  42. Steamer,

Lerner may be stupid and who said you cannot have a stupid billionaire, the thing I worry about is the credibility of the new board with Krulak involved, I mean just what input can he give that will move us forward in any way, he knows nothing about English football, he knows even less about what makes this club tick, if he is there to just spy for Lerner then that brings into question others on the board who are there to do a job better than the previous idiots who occupied those seats, non of it makes any sense, the car crash that is AVFC continues to roll along with little direction.

    SWV

  43. It’s to object to the governments cut in Disability Benefits . Ppl who can’t get off the loo or dress themselves are not as deserving as those earning over 45k warranting tax benefits . The most evil conservative measure yet .

  44. hi Jen i can’t seeing that bill going through – especially after listening the the general feeling of the politicians on question time last night – i think most see it as a step too far (i will sign it of course)

steamer – i listened to Dwight on talk sport last night – he keeps giving it about his deep affection for the villa but he didnt love us that much when he was at Doug’s house crying and begging to be allowed to go to man u thou was he ?

never coached in his life – he’s aving a laugh

  45. Jen,
    Done.
George Osborne is a typical restaurant smashing chinless Eton gobshite.
    Runtingz,
Typical modern footballer, expects to go in at a high level instead of working your way up, bet when he gets booted he’d complain about lack of money. Never liked the bloke always came over as a devious, unprincipled git.

  46. Just reading a few other blogs and the general consensus is that –
    1) we sack Garde.
    2) We hire anyone, however unlikely to come, a top air punching English manager who will then lead us to immediate glory despite the fact we have a dire team of idiots.
    3) When we take our rightful place in the EPL everything will be ok again despite having a rubbish team with a previously failed manager and Lerner still in control.
Wake up children, the club needs re-building from top to bottom, its not all about immediate results its about building for the future.

  47. Very impressed with Steve Hollis’s statement on the official site about the present, the future, and what is happening…

He may not be a great football fan, but he is a great fan of Brummies, our city, and the place that Aston Villa should play init.

He also makes it clear that it is Brian Little’s job, along with Reilly and Remi Garde to sort out the football side within the next two weeks…

  48. Thanks steamer and Runtingz. Yep – it’s etonomics with that lot . No shame.

I heard Yorkie on TS too Runtingz – great player , but an embarrassing plea for a job .

Is Hollis making great decisions ? To me they are obvious ones which any management consultant would make . It’s outrageous these non performers who have no reason to be holding such office were allowed to continue. I’ll reserve judgment but more footballing men like Little is a move in the right direction . How about putting him on the board in some capacity to show commitment to this more enlightened philosophy .

  49. Jenny: ” Yep – it’s etonomics with that lot . No shame.”

That petition is a good shout, Jenny. Thanks.

But what I’d like to point out is that the government that’s been elected (albeit by default, almost) believes that the country is to be ruled purely for the sake of the economy.

I’d suggest it’s we that have created this kind of government by falling into the trap (maybe encouraged a lot by Blair as a nouveau Tory). It’s we really who are accountable for the appalling policies that have come out of Westminster since 2010. It hasn’t just started. Have we forgotten about the bedroom tax already?

Sorry about that short rant, but I do really think that even if we (individually) didn’t vote Tory I think we as a society have been encouraged to think that money means everything for too long. It’s time for a change of outlook i.m.o. But with the way the world economy and general turmoil is going we may be forced into drastic change anyway. And we’ll find and encourage Tony Blair and his wife (and many others) to provide for the downtrodden.

There’s nothing like optimism! Actually I am (optimistic).

  50. Steamer: “Wake up children, the club needs re-building from top to bottom, its not all about immediate results its about building for the future.”

You can see why the Tories traditionally look down on football supporters when such drivel as what you listed get’s to be the consensus.

  51. agree strongly with your posts John

unfortunately the West is about capitalism and although Britain does more for the common people that any country i can think of , the money men have all the influence and i don’t see how we will ever get to the stage were governments are more about the common good than the mighty dollar

  52. Elitism can be fatal, read today about K-H Rumminiege saying how unfair it was that Juventus were knocked out of the Champions (?) Lge and how UEFA should re-form it so that the top clubs survive until the latter stages, surely a contradiction, if they really were top clubs then they would be good enough to survive. What next nominating the four semi finalists before the season starts ? Its bad enough having seeding in sport, its corrupt. Most sports are full of druggies anyway. Tennis, Athletics, Soccer, Snooker, Rugby virtually every sport has been contaminated by the very people elected to nurture them.

  53. John – I agree this is the government philosophy we have and as Runtingz said , that’s capitalism . But , never have I been so outraged by a government proposal which effectively says ‘tough shit you can’t get off the loo by yourself or dress yourself ‘ which is what the change in points allocation means , we will make your life worse by deducting 40 per cent if your pitiful benefit from you and by the way , the other implications of this nasty proposal is that their carers will be denied any support too as PIP level qualification is a pre requisite to getting carers allowance . Add to this the fact they’ve raised the higher tax benefit threshold by 5k to pay for it . i didn’t vote these self serving creeps in but I’m damned if I’m going to stand by without protest .

  54. And Jamie Olivef would be more useful voicing his distaste over disability cuts than pointless sugar tax . Have you read his recipes : hypocritical dog shite .

  55. Jenny,

I am not (of course) arguing with what you say!! We read from the same hymn-sheet! 🙂

But what I was awkwardly trying to put is that we have a tendency not to look at the broader picture of how this came about and what we might (overall) do about it. One petition is not the total answer, though it will help.

  56. Runtings: “unfortunately the West is about capitalism “

Yes, but it’s that needs to change. And John McDonnell has said that the Labour Party will do that. Good old-fashioned socialist policies with the Blair element polished off!

People deride socialism, but it is based on *true* Christian teachings – and perhaps we need a bit of that re-introduced. Socialism without spirit/compassion is unworkable, but the original socialists were not like that.

  57. What’s worrying is that they’ve already taken £30 a week support from disabled ppl trying to get back into employment and that’s gone through . 60 charities opposed it . Sorry these hypocrites are making my blood boil today .

  58. Had a chuckle after the announcement of Wang as the new FIFA sponsor, the owner Wang Jialin is worth $29 Billion, if you read the blogs over the past two years you’d have seen that most Villans would have been unhappy with a Chinese owner and Wang was mentioned. Football fans eh.

  59. And two of the architects of this evil empire say they’re Villans, Ian Duncan Smith who’s never done a days work in his life and Camoron who specialises in wrecking restaurants and advocated hanging Nelson Mandela. Tory voters should take a good look at themselves.

  60. Jenny,

Yep I’m angry too … for what you’ve described and also the suicides resulting from the bedroom tax, to name just some of the evil perpetrated by this lot.

I see there are big public ructions taking place in Brazil … I don’t think we’re that far behind them, and as the economic situation gets gloomier and Osborn tries more cuts, the anger will deepen.

  61. There’s some suggestion that Mellberg might be a good next manager.

I like the man as a player and for his service to Villa (I hope people have not forgotten his last match and his shirts give-away), but I’d rather go for someone who’s had some experience in management.

  62. surely choosing a manager should purely be about finding someone that has shown they are good in all aspects of the job and have nothing to do with there association with the club

with little and Gregory thou they did leave as soon as they felt they were not moving forward anymore – class

  63. Jenny i agree. We are happy fox has gone and a board is getting in place but its not rocket science and anyone of us would of done the same. Not getting excited at all but hopeing this is the first tiny steps of actually making sensible football related decisions which can filter down to the pitch. Its certainly a step in the right direction. Gardei is a goner, hecwas foxs man put in place to support the foreign lads and the money ball project…that plans been blown apart. Who to get in though! I wouldnt mind bruce to get us promoted, get stabile and then sack him off like west ham done with big sam. Moyes is my man fom the get go though but would he join?

  64. I know, i know we’ve gone through this a million times, but all the same, someone on another blog has been told that the club is sold, just waiting for confirmation of relegation so the price can be decided. The bloke is usually OTB and knows his stuff but like us is now a doubter, hope its true but you can bet its another cowboy.

  65. Jen, they should put a huge tax on sugar there would be less people with Diabetes and all its wonderful diseases. I signed the petition it really is poor even for the toerags.

I think the reason I like garde so much is he is honourable and honest as far as any man could be dealing with overblown ego’s.

The world as a whole needs something to aspire to other than Money and the things it buys. Maybe the end of life as we know it will give us pause for though t but I very much doubt it. For instance no life in the seas in a another 40 years what wonderful Guardians we are.

  66. Garde seems a nice guy, and i dont want to be too harsh. But he has failed to get the best out of the new signings which was why fox brought him here, plus we have drifted from 4 points fom saftety to 9. No clear style of play and he does not seem to be much of a motivator….just to me a bit bland but decent chap. Best all round to get him gone. Get a new manager in and actually have his own team with him. For years we have had just a manager and random number twos coming in. Moyes with round as number 2 and the rst of his team would be superb for us. Read a lot frm his time at everton, he had it sewn up, his team were looking for the next coleman, baines, cahill when they were just coming through! Imagine a villa team well drilled organised, fit and working there balls off. Thats whay moyes would bring

  67. Good post Andrew
But who is a good manager?
Ranneri taking over Leicester, linker didn’t like it
Chap at Watford been first class
Pardew was been tipped to replace hodgson now looking at the sack no win in how many
Remi been dealt crap hand but still hasn’t played any jokers to show he knows what he’s at
Moyes 2 sackings is he a busted flush?
Rogers looked good in parts, other times like a rabbit in headlights
    Who do we get?

  68. Its not easy james is it! Whoever it is has to handle the pure relentlessnes of the championship, turning over a new squad and have the pressure of getting us back up first time! Itsmoyes for me eveytime! Just read how gardi quit lyon as thenumber of games took its toll!! The championship would chew him up and spit him out.

  69. The biggest problem for what ever manager takes over getting rid of most of our squad,
Watched sky today 3 goals conceded in clips showed how crap both Hutton and guzan are
Hollis has to get funds for next season and as Henry said what was point sacking Sherwood and not backing garde on January window

  70. Andrew, I can see why Moyes may attract you as he kept Everton away from the bottom of the table year in year out (generally due to their form in the second halves of seasons)
Personally I’d prefer us not to have another Scot with his humour surgically removed as our manager.

  71. Mark: “Maybe the end of life as we know it will give us pause for though t but I very much doubt it.”

Mmmmm … there’s more goin’ on than meets the eye. Really.

  72. The Mail asks ‘Is Agbonlahor a Villa leagend ?’ Coming next, ‘is Messi a half decent player?’
Agbonlahor wouldn’t come close to the top 1000 Villa players in my time, marks out of a 10.
    Talent – 1
    Intelligence – 0
    Desire – 0
    Leadership – 0
    Example – 0

  73. I like the new Football Board, nice if John Gregory was appointed to the one vacant position, he has all the attributes and, unlike some, is a Villa .

  74. Never been to Swansea before and as it could be years until we go again I thought I’d get tickets

I’m guessing it will be the same old. Players run around half arsed for 90 mins just wanting the game over, and the season ASAP. The fact Garde keeps playing them is a disgrace for me, and an Insult to the fans

Play the youth. Green, Lyden, sellers. We must have two better full backs than Hutton and sissy.

But we all know it will be a defensive display with Ayew, Weatwood, Gana, gabby probably. Yey

  75. Well the merry go round has been in full flow these last few days, don’t let the door hit you in the arse on the way out! Seems to be Hollis mantra.
I don’t think he is finished yet either.
Listening to Ray Houghton last night, he was on the ball in his assessment of why we will be plying our trade in the second tier of English football. There are many reasons for our demise, mainly stemming from the owner and his ridiculous appointments( which continue with Krulak), lack of real investment and the fact he lost interest the moment MoN walked.
The assessment on this season was down to poor recruitment, he was yet another ex player/pundit to say he was very surprised that Garde got the job, he didn’t think the appointment was the right one then or now, and they couldn’t have done any worse in keeping Sherwood, Garde has made a bad team worse, split the dressing room and cost money to pay off a manager/staff and bring in this guy who looks like he will go come the end of the season if not before, requiring another payout, all this for 2 wins!!.
Onto today’s game, I can’t see us winning, in fact I can’t see us winning another game this season( although it would be nice to send the Geordies down yet again). Going forwards I dontbthink Garde is the man to lead the resurrection, he maybe a nice bloke( or seems to be) but he has been a massive disappointment results wise, performance wise, and is tainted by this season and all the defeats and tribulations, I feel we need to continue with the clean sweep, taking it into the manager and playing squad, we need a total rebuild, it will take time, but it is needed.

  76. FREM
Think you are been harsh on sissko, very little goals conceded on his side some nice cross es AA few games that Mr Aston Villa run out of the way
Read bit in birm mail blog why am I still watching Hutton give the impression that he tries yet watch the effort for spuds goals well put I think
    Today’s team
    Bunn
    Anyone but Hutton
    Sissko
    Okore
    Clark
    Sanchez
    Gana
    Green
    Sinclair
    Gil
    Rudi

  77. B62,
I think your being a bit harsh on Garde, we’ve been crepe for years and sold our best players, no-one could get this lot going, little talent and no self respect. Let Garde clear them out and start again, intellectually he’s on a different planet to the Brits, get a few more foreigners in, despite the UK perception of them, some are tough, Aitor Karanka as a player was brutal.
    Frem,
Enjoy Swanseee, only went to Vetch Field and it was a right dump, we’ll win today.

  78. Steamer,
Maybe I am , maybe not. My own personal opinion is he has failed in his objective( quite spectacularly), why should we continue to reward failure. We are going down without so much as a whimper, yes there are many reasons why we are relegated, but Garde has to take responsibility for his part in it. I don’t get to pick the manager and I will back him if he stays, even though I don’t think he is the right man for many reasons. Your right these players are poor, but the lack of togetherness, spark, fight etc comes from the leadership and we have none, off or on the pitch. Garde is too beige, his tactics and team selections are as baffling as Sherwoods and football on display is dire, we get thumped every week being out played by literally every team , we are bottom and rightly so, I can’t see Garde being able to put this season behind him, he needs to go back to France just to rebuild his rep and for his own sanity, he has drowned and is out of his depth, yes he’s been hamstrung by the twats not backing him in the transfer window( although we were well adrift by then ).

  79. B62: “My own personal opinion is he has failed in his objective”

    What objective? 😉

I am not sure what his objectives where except the objective of the club to rescue the situation.

To that end he appears to have been promised cash to purchase in January, but that nose-dived.

In my opinion, he probably took less than week to realise the side needed augmenting to stay a chance of staying up, but he’s not been able to get anyone, apart from retrieving Cissy to cover for the lost Amavi.

I just fail to see what he’s done wrong. The players have been living in a world of easy culture and it’s rubbed off in how they’ve performed – awful most of the time. And half the team aren’t fit for PL level anyway. But Garde didn’t buy them and he’s had no better options having any experience.

  80. And I will say over-and-over again that when Ayew got himself sent off at West Ham, it was the turning point. At that stage Villa were building up something like a puff of steam but it all went apart after that – apart from beating Norwich, another losing team.

  81. Steamer, I’ve read that Guardian article and was also impressed with what Hollis had to say, but there’s a warning hidden in there too.
He basically says that the finances look fine during the period of the parachute payments for the next 2-3 years. So . . . . the board have a tough decision to make. Do they throw the dice and assume that we’ll come back up in that period, or do they act conservatively and start reducing costs ‘ in case’ we have to manage without parachute payments, still in the Championship, in 3 years time.
My guess is a bit of both. I think he’s seen the light and realised that it’s what happens on the pitch that really matters so they’ll give some support to the new ‘football’ people on the Board to try and get us back up, but there’s no way we’ll be seeing extended contracts (beyond 3 years) for expensive players like Gabby just in case we don’t make it back up in that period.
As for Garde, that’s another tough Board decision. He has experience of building a team on the cheap and that will be attractive, but do they feel that the pressure to get back up within the 3 year window is so great that they make yet another manager pay off in order to bring in someone experienced in Championship football with a record of getting teams promoted to the Premiership?
Personally I hope they go for the former. Garde has been handed a really tough job, made virtually impossible when the rules were changed and promised investment withdrawn in January (albeit with ‘corrupt’ intervention from the FA player approval committee)
For me, Garde is the man who can utilise the undoubted resources at Bodymore to a) give us a chance of a quick return to the Premiership ( let’s not forget that prior to Ayew’s moment of madness against West Ham, optimism was rightly, growing fast for survival) and b) rebalance the wages cost so that if the Board do feel the need to start tightening the belt early they’ll have a man in place with proven ability to do that.
Interesting times ahead, and this just shows the vital nature of having a competent Board in place who understand football as well as finances.

  82. John, It seems I was writing my comment about Ayew just as you were writing yours.
To my mind, that moment was pivotal in our season. It’s going too far to say that it sealed our fate . . . . but up to that point it looked as if we just might escape, and since then it hasn’t.
Had we won that game ( as even West Ham blogs suggested we were looking likely to prior to the sending off) the gap would have been down to just 5 points and we’d have been one of the ‘form’ teams, with growing confidence of survival.
    Sigh. . .

  83. Ayew sending off
Does not give remi a get out ,before it arsenal Everton first half v Newcastle and Wycombe cup match, after city cup game with less than half first team pool city again Everton and finally spurs shocking
He persist with guzan thought bunn did OK Hutton worst excuse of footballer ever lescott bacuna wastewood who carragher said if he is pl class anyone is and finally bringing Mr villa ( flabby) back who if you go back to ayew sending off I think rest of players don’t want him in the team and don’t blame them
What has remi done to show he is the man to rebuild us

  84. You got love person
Said talking to someone about villa, was told about 5 had get out clause ( he said who and where only ayew might get pl side no e rest)
Selling gave a good description of what is wrong Nicholas said ( selling) would be due 1.2 m half fox wage for 2 mins work

  85. James: “finally bringing Mr villa ( flabby) back “

But there were no other experienced strikers to choose, James!!!!!!!!!!!!

One was suspended and two were injured.

As for Guzan … well, in the last game I thought he’d got some form back.

And for the others – well he just chose those (he said) that showed the most fight. And I’m inclined to believe that’s right – we haven’t seen Richardson again and Richards isn’t automatically selected. Whether the others are good enough is another issue – but as has been said the January window hasn’t given him any further options.

  86. John l
Didn’t see much last game but what I did shots where straight at guzan from a distance
Mr villa is a disgrace and no fit strikers Sinclair was fit ANyone but Gabby he is a parasite of worst kind if you look at his effort in games when playing and look at effort rest of players something stinks( Gabby)
Where does Hutton show fight clips on sky yesterday shows he is always at fault for goals has to be a young lad in reserve’s or youths that can play full back

  87. James – no, Guzan kept Villa in the game first half.

The point about players like Hutton is who would you play in their place?

I can’t think of anyone that Villa has who is likely to do any better. What choice does Garde have?

  88. John
It doesn’t say much for kmac and Sid if Hutton and flabby have no competition from youth time for youth coaches to go as well
Not denying remi been treated poorly but when he didn’t walk after transfer window shambles ,he looks like a poodle for departed fox

  89. James,

Any right-thinking manager would select the most experienced players while there is a chance that relegation can be avoided. I’ve never before known a team that has thrown youngsters in to the deep end in Villa’s situation.

But since the chances of survival are now virtually nil, I agree that youngsters should be given the chance. And I think we’ll see more of that.

  90. John
    It’s because of experienced players
Guzan Hutton Richardson lescott Richards wastewood and Gabby we are been relegated along with fox and co

  91. B-62 Garde split the dressing room? not Tim not playing the French and the same for Kmac?? Not gabby and his gobshite gang? First thing Garde did was tell the French they had to speak English in the Changing rooms. he recognised it as soon as he walked in but the damage was done.

  92. Also you have to think back to Tim with Lamberts team the tactics were get the ball to benteke and back him up and it worked this season no benteke and pretty much no forward line, what tactics can counter that? we have a crap defence too should we go 6 at the back? Tactics from both managers cannot account for what we have seen, players have a responsibility too

  93. Sat down for scond half of game. Dear god. Vertout shite, gestede shite, in fact all of them shite. Guzan and hutton masterclass…. Dont like remi cause he plays them. Did i say how shite gestede was

  94. If little doesn’t come out and say remi Riley are both sacked with immediate effect, instruct lawyers to sue guzan Hutton lescott wastewood and Gabby for breach of contract they imitating footballers

  95. I thought we showed more motivation, just not good enough. Clark MOM for me, didn’t know Wastewood was on the pitch till he took that last minute corner, truly crepe. Too be honest we’ve dropped six points to a p-poor Swanseee team this season, really hope that they’re not the model for the new Aston Villa.

  96. James: “Defend the two knobs Hutton and the clown ball watching again flapping at thin air”

I was never “defending” them James. I basically said that in terms of experienced players, Garde does not have much choice in selecting them.

I think there’s a big difference between saying “Garde has no choice” to saying “I like the players”. I have to accept what’s there – as we all do unfortunately, ’cause there ain’t much else to go with.

  97. Steamer,

I agree with your view on the match: we just didn’t have a clue when it came to the penalty area otherwise first half we would surely have scored a couple.

Agreed on Clark. He’s always been proud to wear a Villa shirt and though he’s not perfect he’s probably the best defender we do have.

Disagree on Westwood – first half he sprayed 2 or 3 lovely balls about, but didn’t do much second period.

But a very ordinary Villa team. Too ordinary for the PL.

  98. We are just soft…..can sometimes knock it around in he middle going nowhere but the most important thing is effecting the game in our box and opposition box….we are horrndous in both. Its suicide playing guzan, hutton etc, they loose you games im surprsed he aint worked it out. If we aint got a better option than hutton at rb we are in more trouble than though…….how many times have i wrote his crepe this season. Clark could be ok in the chapionship maybe but never confident in the lad.

  99. Id keep adama amavi ayew grealish gana eveyone else can do one. Vertout a big let down for me. Slow, not a tackler type, is he meant to assist score? Whats his best position? Just another westy type of player, not my kind of midfielder at all.

  100. Just back from work so I apologise for not replying, JL you say what objective? Well I’m sure he was bought in to achieve survival, nothing more just survive, we were only 4 points from safety, so in my opinion he has failed in that task. You say you don’t know what he’s done wrong?, well flip that what has he done right? Tighten up the defence? No sort the midfield out? Got the strikers firing? No unified the squad? Got us playing decent football? No, Got us looking more solid? No Blooded the youth ? No I could go on, yes he had a difficult task, but he hasn’t been a success, he’s been dismal, yes so have the players, so why play the same ones week in week out, I see Hutton and Guzan were at fault yet again!!!! Westwood offers Fuck All yet Gardner is playing well and scoring worldies at forest !
Tonight Garde has pretty much admitted defeat and said we are going down, I don’t think he is the man to lead us back to the top flight, but that’s just my opinion and I base it on the evidence before me and the drivel I have had to endure every week, I doubt we will another game this season, we prob won’t make 20pts. It beggars belief fans would want to keep the manager that has overseen this debacle ! despite the mitigation he has played a major part in our demise this season, as have others who have lost their jobs and rightly so

  101. On Forest today, Gardner was very ordinary, and Lichaj was awful……the other Gardner performed better for the baggies today….

Looks like Hollis will part company with Remi on Monday morning, and BL and Sid will take over until the end of the season..

  102. B62: “JL you say what objective? Well I’m sure he was bought in to achieve survival, nothing more just survive”

Um … that’s what I said! That could be the only objective – the club’s objective.

You say it’s he that’s failed, but he has not because he cannot make *experienced* players do the right things at the right time. All those defenders have been around quite a long time, and all of them have played for their country.

They have made mistakes – yes – but it has primarily been down to lack of confidence. When a team starts winning then confidence begins to pick up again, errors reduce and smiles increase. There’s nothing like a positive situation to bring about a successful team.

But in my opinion the fact that the attack is near to useless (and almost incapable of scoring) is a worse problem, because if you don’t score you can’t win. When the defenders and midfielders see no goals going in then they will drop in confidence by that fact alone.

Garde *inherited* the players he has. And he also inherited a situation where their heads were already down.

How can you expect to turnaround a situation like that when you have no leaders in the lot you’ve inherited? He was getting close to it until Ayew got re-carded, and since then everything has folded. Ayew’s absence and the absence of other strikers through injury left the team with no strength in attack and therefore nothing to encourage the team as a whole.

Football is a lot to do with motivation and psychology. But if the components there are not of the right calibre (thanks to the summer spending spree that was all wrong) then what can you do?

At least the Villa looked a lot better in the first half-an-hour yesterday. But simply because they lacked fire-power they were unable to convert their possession into a winning situation. With Benteke and Delph in the side Villa would have won yesterday. That’s the difference.

  103. Andrew: “Clark could be ok in the chapionship maybe but never confident in the lad.”

He was enormous last season -especially when playing with Okore.

I saw Clark rip into a tackle once last year which would have taken the feller’s leg off if it had been timed wrongly, but the tackle was inch-perfect and won a terrific applause from the crowd. He also scored a lovely header against Stoke I think it was. In fact a few seasons ago he was scoring a few.

He – unfortunately – has been stunted by what’s gone on around him, but given the right partner and a better team he’d do well.

  104. strong rumors that Garde is about to be sacked with mac holding the fort so with can look forwards to Richardson and gabby getting a proper run

  105. Have to be honest but i think Remi will be gone this week, a real shame in my opinion but everything has conspired against him, i think folk will regret him leaving because he’ll certainly make Lyon a force again.
Mike Dean is another ref who makes it up as he goes along, having booked Cissy for a genuine attempt to win the ball he left himself, 100%, with no option but to send him off for that second foul. Williams should also have gone for giving Rudy, Rudy, Rudy a facial.
I any more evidence is needed about how corrupt our F A is read the OFFICIAL cover-up of Wayne Rooney’s pilfering of sponsors goods at Wembley, what do you expect when you only earn (?) 300,000 per week, is everyone in football scum ?
Thought the punditry reached a new low on Saturday when the panel laughed off that diabolically cynical foul by Britton on Agbonlahor when in a possible shooting position, great laugh. Redknapp is a bigger gobshite than his dad.

  106. It seems the discussion in Garde is about to become immaterial , looks like he’s going sooner rather than later as relegation is pretty much confirmed, even Remi has admitted as much. I don’t hate him, he seems a nice guy, I also don’t think he is the major reason for our demise, just that he has to be held responsible and accountable for the part he has played in this relegation as others have done, and rightly so. Thhe right man at the wrong time, unfortunately makes him the wrong man. Perhaps with a stable and we’ll run club he would prosper, but that’s not what we are. I also don’t think he is part of the solution, especially after this season so the only real option is for him to leave. I think the new board want a clean sweep, they want to start again this summer and obviously don’t feel Garde can turn this around , Garde himself may not want to stay, with Fox gone he has no ear or ally in the boardroom.
The problem now is, who can we get, I’d like Moyes/Pearson/Rodgers /monk but the early front runner is Mr Potato head who is messing up Hull City’s run in and push for promotion.

  107. I agree Kmac should be kept away from the first team, may as well keep Garde til the end of the season or use Little.
I doubt whoever will be coming in will arrive til the summer, but whoever comes in needs to know who the bad apples are and who needs to go in one of the biggest culls in football history

  108. Honestly, does anyone think KMac & Cowans are better options than Garde ? Out of the names mentioned in an admittedly dire list, i would say Pearson is the stand out, they’ll have to move quickly because he’s a Florist fan and they’re closing in. Must admit i’d go for a continental manager, but well probably end up with Neil Lennon or similar.

  109. B62,

I agree that there would be doubt about Garde in developing the future, but, there again, there’d be doubt about anyone that comes in unless he happens to be well-clued about British football and, preferably, a track record in English football that he can boast of.

  110. Former Aston Villa striker Micky Drennan believes the writing was on the wall a long time ago at Villa Park.

The Kilkenny forward joined Villa in 2010 and formed part of a big Irish contingent at the club, he claims the club isn’t the club it once was and all is not well in the camp.

Speaking to The Sun, Drennan said: “You could see it happening a mile away. There’s a big divide between the academy and the first team. There’s been a big falling out.

  111. John
First wasn’t looking to offend last night in comment about Coco the clown and Hutton
As for remi to me he is doing what Sherwood did hold out for payout ,he was stitched up by fox as all villa fans have been
Sherwood said last April he wanted all losers out bringing in winners, well of new signings(12 Sinclair was another Lambert bust) only Richards rudi bunn and lescott were down to him and in fairness all have been crap( bunn excluded)
We need a strong manager to come in and say majority of players have failed at least 3 men so they are the problem ,so out there have to go
Guzan shite keeper dont know why bunn was dropped
Hutton has not finished a winning match all season giveaway goal better known as
Richards a disaster signing really rotten apple by sound of it
Lescott after Wycombe should been sacked another sack of shite
Wastewood 4 season top level as carragher said if he’s pl quality hope for all and sundry 4 years on still can’t hit deadballs past first man
Bacuna laughing boy why fox gave him new contract couple fluke free kicks couple season back not even league one standard
Gabby MR villa 4 stone overweight, it’s bad when you enjoy opponents kicking him,2 booked yesterday, admit it house all smiled
Rudi way out of his depth, but should only be used as sub
Kozak way to injury prone forget about him
Gil another shite buy from Lambert looked good last Jan but then anyone would have same as wastewood deadballs shocking
Sinclair flatters to deiceve, you know you are shite when manager puts 4 stone flabby on ahead of you
    I would keep
    Bunn as number 2
    Okore Clark
Sissko amavi not be fit ease him back into team
    Grealish gana Sanchez
    Vertout lot to prove
    Traore
Ayew showed a bit around Xmas, since flabby back in squad been very poor?is just me or do the foreign lads not like flabby

  112. Well according to the telegraph Garde told Fox he would get sacked when they did not back him in Jan. What a sad state of affairs that a decent man gets brought down by a bunch of self- serving arsholes who would relegate a club rather than take orders from Garde, it stinks but thats Aston Villa a steaming pile of excrement. So Gobby and co breath again and the board choose to keep losers over Garde

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/03/20/remi-garde-set-to-be-dismissed-by-aston-villa/?

  113. Mark k
If Brian little can’t see all rotten apple we will be down for a long time, and maybe little will tell why he let deadly put collymore into his squad that rotten apple destroyed Little’s team

  114. Mark,
According to one 1st teamer, Collymore appeared in the changing room at BH, Little walked in and said ‘Hello, what are you doing here ? Didn’t know WTF was going on, SC was a Herbert signing not BL.

  115. Mark
Fox and co have gone, they have paid for their mistakes which have led to the ruin of our club, too late for me me but they have been rightly sacked, as was Sherwood( who was also hamstrung and stitched up by the board), and now it looks like Garde will pay the ultimate price also. 84% of fans in a vote want him to go and don’t believe he is the man for the job, he has no ally in the boardroom and has not prevented the slide in any way and hasn’t done any better than Sherwood . I have a little sympathy he never got any backing in the window, but ultimately he hasn’t stopped the downward spiral, as bad as this squad is, it did cost a fair amount to put together and really isn’t 12 points worse than the journeymen and bang average shite at Norwich, it really isn’t . For me I said months ago this is a job interview for Garde even if he doesn’t keep us up he has to make a fight of it and win more matches , he simply hasn’t done that, managers live and die by results and his have been horrendous

  116. B62 I cannot disagree Garde has failed but sherwood, fox almstadt and co were the arcitects not remi. He knew he had to replace certain elements in Jan ,was promised funds. His mindset once he came in was access and if needed bring players in to change it. Once our wonderful players knew the game was up Remi had to be backed because the disruptive element at villa would make sure Garde was sacked otherwise. I assume the French on the whole liked Garde further fuelling the split, without more numbers to back him and better players to gain results the inevitable happened after Jan. I know you think he did little but consider the small pool of players loyal to him and the fact he did engineer an upword curve in results in Jan with that limited group. Also the man lost Amavi,Kosak,Gestede,Sanchez,Adama, ayew all likely allies and players likely to effect results at a crucial time. He had to rely on the dross he knew to be poor and who knew he did not rate them ,that was never going to happen. Consider this, if Garde had been told you are not getting funds but you will be the manager come what may for 3 years what would the reaction have then been from the players? What would his attitude have been like? Would he even of walked through the door if told no funds in Jan? Would he have been less open about his plans to the players?

What we now will have is another Brit manager bigging up gabby’s pace, Richards leadership etc. You may not like Gardes way but he walked in identified the many useless members of the team and made plans to remove them, no sentimentality about mr Aston villa just honest accessment of a bang average player and less than average team. That bravery will get him sacked just as much as time these are not my players did for him. I hope you and the other 86% are happy to keep the overrated dross that infest this squad because it will take a brave manager to come in now with the boards stance now being Garde failed and not the players?after all that would cost them more wouldn’t it.

  117. Sacking Remi now is the only option. To b honest, it could have happened a while back. There no fight from the players and the selection yesterday as usual was so wrong

What the club can’t do though is appoint Pearson or Bruce. One is just a horrible man and the other is bang average. He needs a load of money to spend and can never take a club in the prem. Getting one of those two would actually stop fans getting season tickets

Imagine actually waiting to pay money to Hull for Bruce ?

Moyes, Monk, Clemment would be better. Even Neville in the summer. I’d really like Neville actually

  118. Yes, I doubt if he realised that half his team would work against him. If he’d have been given the money promised he’d have dumped the crepe Brits, won a few points and be half way towards hero status.
Monk, Clement and Moyes have never had to build a club, Neville has been shown up for the knob he is, Bruce is a moron and Pearson may be a piece of work but he’ll sort these gutless twats out.

  119. Id only have pearson if his backroom team came but they are still at lester! Garde was a gonner soon as fox went, apparenly gardei has just given up on the training field, what with leaving lyon after 3 years due to pressure i dont think he is the man to rebuild us and battle our way out of championship, it would batter him! Thanks for coming but had zero impact. Makes you think money to pay off tim, then money to hire remi and now pay him off! With only 2 wins might as well saved the money and kept tim! Massive massive appointment from the new board

  120. Mark: “I cannot disagree Garde has failed “

Sorry, I cannot go with that. You have said time and again that the chips were stacked against Garde and although he “failed” to keep Villa up, any failure is surely not his fault but those that stitched him up.

The indictment of failure can only be applied when the guy has set up his own stall and been given the truth when he started, not when he’s had to work with a totally dodgy set up.

  121. I dont agree at all remi would be the only man to overhaul the squad, whoever is the next manager we will have lots of changes to the side. Well moyes is my number 1 but prob wont come. Realisticly who is there that would take us on. Monk, brenton, wouldnt mind nicking rowett of blues. That would be fun

  122. Steamer- Pearson seems to have been given hero status for bringing Leicester up eventually then nearly taking them down but for a very fortunate run in with only Chelsea a top team in 8 games which they lost, still an achievement. Rannieri has further elevated him by going top with mostly his team, you have to ask why they struggled when he came up then? I have heard from Leicester fans that he is very defensive minded and Rannieri has let the team off the leash, you could say similar to the way remi has been forced to play at Villa but with no effective forwards and little pace in the team its hard to counter attack and our inability to carve out chances is obvious and again points to amateur movement up top for the likes of Gil or vertout to pick out.

Speaking of which Defoe score for Sunderland again, he’s the difference in that team, maybe Hepburn -murphy could have been that man for us but 2 months injured now.

  123. What we may well be ending up with is tiny Leicester winning the title with Albrighton playing a significant part in that achievement (and they’ll qualify for the EC regardless of their final position), and big Villa so big that they’ve sunk to the bottom.

  124. JL only in the sense he hasn’t won games etc but there are massive reasons for this which the overall fan base are choosing to ignore, lots of them seem to have a disconnect now we are down that this team was somehow more capable, which they are clearly not to me, and worse still almost chose to relegate us with there errors and lack of effort. The failure Really began in the summer transfer window thats the real date we went down IMO

  125. Andrew- No Remi is not the only manager that can overhaul us but he’s shown he knows who needs to go, how long until the next manager comes to those conclusions if at all? Remi is tainted by this season but knows more than anyone what needs to change. We will start next season with mutton gabby westwood bakuna lescott guzan all stinking the place up the French lads will all go of that I am now certain

  126. Mark if no one can see there rubbish we aint ever coming back! Im certain those players are gonners. French ones prob too but same if remi stayed. Who would your choice be mate? Boards got a tough decision i think

  127. Andrew- they are the same ones big Sam would have to rely on too, so in all honesty I don’t think he would of achieved much different. I could easily be wrong but we have been crap at the back and crap up front all season, Garde wanted 2 attackers and 3 defenders. Defoe will get goals regardless of the players around him, like Benteke you just get the ball to him enough times in a match and watch him score, who do we have?

I’d go for Howe or Dyche if we are going brit but we sure as hell won’t have a huge list to pick from imo

  128. Mark I totally agree everything you say. If Remi is sacked now when he was firstly given a poor hand when he came in then not allowed to buy in January which surly undermined his standing, then the team I have supported for almost 60 years has reached a new, and for me the final, low!

I can’t believe that some are saying we should have gone for Allardyce or for God sake Bruce! As I have often said before, be careful what you wish for! Which in the case of those two boring mediocrity.

IMO Remi Garde is an decent honourable man who deserves better. I would rather take a chance with him to rebuild next season than sack our 7 manger in 6 seasons and risk taking on any of the clowns being suggested to replace him!

From the moment Fox & CO failed to back him in January we were going down. He knew it, we knew it and you can bet the players all knew it, further undermining him.

Sack Garde and I personly will have had enough and will cease to care.

Thank you Mark for showing that Villa still has supporters who know the difference between what is right and the knee jerk reaction to cry off with the manager’s head! I would like to say UTV but until I know the new board are going to do the right & decent thing, I can’t!

  129. ndrew: “Think we were above them before remi came.”

We were bottom just before Remi came – that’s why Tim was sacked.

We’ve not been above anybody since.

  130. Ah thought we was above sunderland at some point!

No slective memory here, were shit and i know we are….for years!

Just praying the new board stumble on a winning formula and get things right. Dont get that at all about garde im afraid, 2 wins in 20 odd games, failed to get the new signings going and has given up by all accounts, if i was in the new board id get rid too. He had offered nothing at all to make me think keep him. Coming across as nice in a presser is not what im lookng for in a manager

  131. Mark k
Wasn’t quite as bad under Sherwood
As I said on Sat clips on sky on Friday showed us conceding 3 goals all down to Coco the clown and giveagoalway Hutton guess what same story yesterday and every day them two clowns play guzan one clean sheet in a year ,Hutton hasn’t won a match with villa in nearly a year it’s not bad luck they are pure shite

  132. JG and Andrew- the game against Swansea could of been Sherwood for all it matters, we have no pace, no guile, no effective forwards and very poor defenders. the only reason it looked better under Tim was we still thought someone would come and save us. The board had their chance to back the man they employed with the right tools and didn’t. If I hear the lunacy of but he should of done better and they would of backed him I will scream. If he’d beaten Norwich and Sunderland it would be taken as a sign we have the players and the same would of happened IMO.

  133. did sherwood win more games than garde ?

i don’t think the managers have been the the real cause of our problems

the players sherwood wanted to bring in however didn’t fill me with much hope

  134. Andrew, regarding Pearsos staff, his chief scout has just gone to Arsenal and the assistant is Craig Shakespeare who always follows Pearson to clubs and is a Villa fan, so you never know.
Must agree with villa@herts, fifty years of mainly crepe is wearing me down and to be honest i find the current farcical events are dragging the club through the gutter. Its not the club that i supported.

  135. Lennon has more goals than any villa player this season
    One of Sherwood targets
Not only did Sherwood not get his number 1 s 2 s or 3 s on list it was down to number 4 s
Why is Riley anything to do with going forward 4 players coming from France vertout ayew compare toconte and payet you know what we got 2 donkeys never mind crespo
Sherwood wanted guzan out got bunn
Hutton out got new contract for laughing boy bacuna
Rid of wastewood fox gave new contract
Wanted Addy got a bigger flabby

  136. Christ i wouldnt want tim….i was just saying earlier all turned out a bit pountless sacking him getting gadei and sacking him!

I Am hoping we keep adama. Get grealish going and those two could tear up the championship. Adama offers real pace and directness.

    Adama grealish ayew
In a 4231 could be lethal. Wonder if we could get ings on loan for a season.

Maybe entice gareth barry to finish his carreer back at villa?

    Gana barry

    Adama grealish ayew
    Ings

  137. Reading other blogs sites seems the day remi said he needed 5 players
    Keeper guzan
    Right back Hutton
    Centre half lescott Richards
    Winger
    Striker flabby
All took offence and threw their dummies,we were bad in first half season but we are not going to try now at all

  138. going forward i agree that Pearson id probably the best qualified to sort the team out and get it ready to compete quickly in the championship
Hopefully he has leaned to lessons from the past but if not he can at least get us up and allow the club to kick on from there

  139. Frem. Surprised you want red nev! Someone said basicslly he is there version of remi! From tv pundit to struggling!

Interesting about pearsons backroom staff steamer. Reckon remi will be gone tomorrow.

Im still hoping for moyes. Has been said how we wanred him before remi but he would not work under the current system which has now gone! Will he work in the championshipthough

  140. Andrew,
Moyes has said he wants the Celtic job, and the fans want Ronnie Delia out, even the double won’t save him, they only got 14,000 last home game so finances are a big factor.
When you look at the England manager, the fact that Pardew has been touted as his successor and the Manc rat as a future boss then i think its safe to assume that the quality of English football managers is at an all time low, i look at the list of names linked with Villa and wince, to be honest if brains were domino’s they’d all be knocking. We escaped relegation by one place last season, got rid of four top players and expect Garde to transform this shower into a football team, bizarre. I think he’s a better manager than anyone named, i KNOW he’s more intelligent than any of them and iv’e a good idea he knows far more about footy than the likes of Bruce. For me its an easy decision, give Remi the money promised by Lerner when they met + any sales and see how he does, anyone can jump around waiving fists and looking like a knob, it doesn’t make them a good manager.

  141. Very interesting we all see different things. For me remi has not had any impact whats so every. At least get us dfensively sound and hit on the break and do the basics but we just get worse. Alarm bells for me is he needd a break from crappy fench league after 3 years, how the hells he going to cope re building villa in the mental 2 games a week championship….he will be fecked after a month!

  142. Sounding like Remi is gone. Nice man but as a manager he’s been awful

Andrew- the ex player isn’t Collymore is it? He thinks it’s Bruce. Hope not

Hoping for Moyes but expecting Bruce or Pearson.

I hate Pearson as a person but I like his style. 442. Wingers and a fast striker

  143. Steamer
Are we all in agreement the players are the main problem
I like remi ,from he stàrted the job to after Xmas, when it all changed no money to spend to replace rpthe crap, but now jußt pay him off cause even if he stays gets rid of flabby and co he still stink of this season and couple bad results fans will remember bad times quick

  144. Evening all .
Thanks for signing petition folks and Runtigz standing by me 🙂

    Great post villaherts .

So Hollis is going to include Remi in the cull . Guess he can be forgiven as he knows nothing about football. But when we are on the third manager in so many seasons (which I predict if we go for the mr average Brucie type ) and he’s built something at Lyon or another club , will we be looking on enviously . He has so much more to offer but was misled by Fox and unceremoniously abandoned in January. He’s been treated appallingly .

Which brings me on to the players . It’s being reported that he’s lost half the dressing room and we all know which half that is . It’s the plonkers who put out an anti French video at xmas , it’s the Lescotts and Guzans of the team who have shown Remi so little respect . the independent reports that Remi has tried to change things with trying different combinations but that has caused resentment and hostility . Remi didn’t stand a chance as the old guard (some of whom have seen the back of four or more mgrs) weren’t going to play ball. Excuse pun. Look at the body language , look at the behaviour on the bench , they don’t care they almost want him to fail .

You may say that a good manager will be able to instil respect but it’s getting harder and harder with player power and mentality . The Chelsea players outed a respected mgr like Morinho so what chance did Remi have. The board treated him with contempt in Jan and the players thought they knew best . Rumour has it that there’s no discipline and this is why Roy Keane was brought in . That worked well didn’t it !

I am sorry that Remi has had such an awful intro into premier league management and I hope it doesn’t sully his CV .

I agree with John and Andrew that Anews sending off was the turning point .

Interesting what Micky Drennan had to say Steamer . we’ve wondered why our next gen winners didn’t progress as expected . I’d agree also to some extent with the article warning against emotion clouding decision making . Is Sid and KMac really the best ppl for bringing on these young players . There’s something not right in this area too given our academy having high ranking status and the lack of talent making it .

    St 75 – where are you ?! X

  145. How dare Kilp Klop disrespect our Tecjers like that in front of 60000 fans . For once I agree with Alan Shearer . If you want to have words do it in the dressing room . Poor Teckers , didn’t deserve that .

  146. Jenny
Our next gen didn’t make because Lambert was a first class knob,as you say he took in Keane to sort Gabby and co out what did Lambert do blow Keane out, gave new contracts to two wankers in Hutton and Gaby sign Cole sendross and Richardson let albrighton go who I hope wins winners medal
You can not forget the mess Lambert made and left

  147. Steamer- As you say, you’d hope the board will pull out a big name to restore some pride in the club and get the fans on side again. Moyes would make most Villa fans happy, as would Rodgers

Bruce or Pearson is the most likely though, and it won’t please fans. In fact, I think people who go to most games would stop going. They need to appoint a man whos going to sell tickets, not one who will make fans give up. even Monk or Neville would be decent

If garde goes this week and we still haven’t got a man who out a job in another week or two, then it’s fair to say we are waiting for Bruce

Yep, we will actually pay money to Hull to take Steve Bruce. I’d prefer Pearson over him. LCFC were an attacking side when he took then to promotion

  148. You’d like to think with Moyes out of a job that the club would go all out to get him. Pay him what ever, tell him he can control over transfers

  149. Frem: “Bruce or Pearson is the most likely though, and it won’t please fans. In fact, I think people who go to most games would stop going.”

That’s a good bloomin’ point. The next appointment is going to be a tricky one.

If Moyes were to come I’d think most would be happy with that. Or someone of his ilk.

  150. now now JL 🙂 there is only so much of Jen to go around 🙂 —- i already have to share with st75

i guess the new guys have spoken to Garde about his plans to revive the club for next season and my guess is they thought the plans he has may not get us straight up

We are so low at the minute that any number of managers could improve us

the one thing that worries me is how many of these bad eggs are going to be given yet another chance by a new manager

  151. I do despair that the extent of some fans opinion only goes as far as Pearson or Bruce, in every likelihood this will be the standard of manager we will get because that’s the expectation level this club has set based on previous decisions.

Pearson – fined 10000 for telling a fan to fuck off and die, had his hands around the throat of a Palace player, clearly took his sons side after he was removed from the club for the racist sex tape because ‘relationships’ broke down with him and the board. Results wise great 2013/14 season in the Championship and struggled in the Prem until their spectacular run of form at the end of last season

Bruce – Mr. Potatohead – has a good looking daughter (surprisingly) as Darren Bent and Nicolas Bendtner found out. But look who he has managed Norwich, Small Heath, Wigan, Sunderland and Hull, if that is the level we are going for then we may well get promotion but we’ll bounce between the divisions. Results wise, some degree of mid table obscurity for Small Heath, and an FA Cup Final with Hull.

For the love of God, can we aim higher and look at managers that have won things consistently, not looking for the Mourinho’s of this world but why not look at Rodgers, failing that because not many winning managers are unemployed, why not speak to Moyes or Karanka.

This is a crucial appointment if Garde gets the chop, he has my sympathies given the turmoil he agreed to manage and not getting backed in January. Agree completely results didn’t improve under Garde but the playing staff have a lot to answer for. As for blaming Garde on team selection what options did Garde have at RB and in goal in particular, his hands were tied by the squad available to him and their lack of professionalism.

    FOL

  152. DO’R: “can we aim higher and look at managers that have won things consistently”

Yep, I go with that sentiment.

I see quite a few fans are asking for Brendon Rogers … or Moyes.

  153. For
    Right back and keeper
    What did bunn do wrong
As for Hutton my local junior league he wouldn’t get a game
Think remi last few matches played the worst available to him to show Hollis how bad a squad it is
For next season we need to ship out about a dozen buy in same whole new spine,RB to start more than the 5 remi wanted to r3place in January

  154. JC Bunnis an even worse keeper than Guzan for me and we won’t have a solution for that position just like all other positions until all these players are shipped out and more capable or willing players are brought in

DOR i agree that there might be better choices to manage us out of the championship at the first attempt and i would be gutted if we get Bruce

Pearson however despite his failings as a person has a proven track record of gaining promotion which has to be the key consideration i think
If he was to join i think we would have a team all pulling in the right direction with the right type of players to make it happen
The off field stuff is another story thou

  155. Yeah to be fair i have gone off bruce and pearson especialy now looks like his backroom team are staying at lester.

Number 1 by a mile is Moyes
    2 rodgers
    3 laudraup
    4 monk

    That would be my list

  156. Runtings
Not saying bunn great just major improvement on Coco the clown, guzan one clean sheet in a year ,bunn had 3 in January, if you watch goal guzan telling defence to stay out, lescott doesn’t trust him backs in,Hutton done his usual watch his man walk off him, guzan chickens out hits Swansea player who also chickened out on back into empty net
Read a good one a fan who supports villa for 60 years wondering who zonal is never seen that name on scoresheet yet everyone is marking zonal

  157. Managers I’d like to see succeed Garde in no particular order, Moyes, Rodgers, Howe, Dyche, Prandelli, Laudrup. I think Pearson will be on the list as will Bruce but Pearson wouldn’t be my first choice and I definately don’t want Bruce

  158. Of course Howe and Dyche are extremely unlikely , nigh on impossible as they are in far better jobs, than we can currently offer. In fact we could be left scraping the barrel

  159. Outside punt on Warburton, did very well at Brentford on a tiny budget, and is doing a great job of restoring Rangers back to their rightful place North of the border

  160. It’s funny to me Pearson was right choice after Tim and for new season someone like remi come in clear out Deadwood( big skip needed)
Most of squad have to go and when you look at youth coming through ( van gaal has blooded16 this season ) youth coaches need to. Go as well start from scratch,
Trust villa to do it back to front

  161. B62,
A Celtic fan told me Martin O’Neil would be coming which of course happened, the bloke has told me Warburton would be the next Aston Villa manager…….you never know, I’d be okay with Mark Warburton.

  162. Archie
I’d take that, he knows the division and is showing he is no one season wonder in the goldfish bowl of Glasgow. Rangers are the biggest club in that division by some distance and that brings greater , as anything less than winning the league is a bit of a failure. I’m not sure we could tempt him though, not with the chance of going head to head with Celtic next season.

  163. Warburton’s managing in the equivalent of the Midland League, He’s signing League 1 reserves, including ex-Villa player Harry Forrester, but has the second biggest wage bill in Scotland, on the plus side he got a draw versus Alloa. Ex stock market employee and a cockenee, so a bit dubious, especially when you get sacked by Brentford when your in the top five. Possibly a good choice for the reserve team.

  164. Mark Warburton….maybe, I’d rather have Rodgers, I must admit. However, I’ve got feeling its going to be nut job Pearson.
I’d like to think we could do better than him.

  165. All way off….I say way off…..you are all way off….!!!!

See the latest reports….Even Pullis may be under consideration…but the top guy is…..check the latest from the Mail….!!!

  166. Cant believe i am hoping för person but thé reason i Think he is thé best fit för thé Short term is because he has been there done it in terms of promotion —- he doesnt suffer fools of which We have Many —— and i think he is more than capable of building a side fit for purpose —:— its all about getting straight back up —–,if he starts getting to rowdy he can be relieved of his duties at the end of the season

  167. Paul
The Brum Mail had a write up from Dan Bardell, he mentions Warburton and Karl Robinson. The poll had Moyes leading by a fair distance, more amazing were the 3% who voted for Potato head

  168. Beanie Hasi linked, he sounds like baddie out of Taken, but he’s actually the Anderlecht gaffer, not an Albanian sex trafficking hit man.
I don’t know anything about him TBH, seems like another real gamble/cheap option at first glance

  169. We have a great chance to get Moyes or Rodgers in. Pay what they want and they will come. We’d be silly not to, and to go for Pearson or Bruce instead

Monk hasn’t been mentioned which is strange. He did well at Swansea in the first season. Played good footy, played with wingers ( BLOODY WINGERS- BANNED BY OUR LAST 5 MANAGERS) Always seemed tactically switched on. I’d much prefer him than NP

But iv’e read rumours this morning we won’t pay Garde the sacking Villa. Muppets

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Garde in charge for Chelsea

  170. We must surly be going al out to get Moyes. Knows the Championship, knows what it takes in the prem. An eye for a youngster/transfer bargain. And gets his teams fit and hard working. If the new football board dont see it then ill be very alarmed.

    Frem

We are just in negotations with remi regarding a pay off, dont want to sack him as it would cost 2mill. settlement will be reached, he wants out.

  171. Chris Coleman, another sack of crepe, how much evidence do the committee need before the realise all british managers are crepe, as are the players

  172. My least favourite time, we have a manager entirely undermined by both the players and the board and yet every media effort is made to find his replacement as opposed to challenging the players and board as to why performances have been so poor by the players. They (the players) get away with so much and dare to call themselves professionals.

The other reason I hate this time, is because AVFC have yet to prove they have the capacity to select the right manager, MON was a DD appointment and got us close to the holy grail of Champions League football but since then not a single manager was the right appointment or the right time.

Still maybe the advisory capacity of Little and the nous of King and Bernstein will prove the ‘football board’ has the right ideas.

Chris Coleman -great taste in second wives, managerial level 0, managed Fulham just after their big spending spree and inherited a lot of good players. Prior to Wales managed Larissa and left because of the clubs financial troubles, why he’d join a club with 27m debt from last May who knows how bad the debt is now. Wales – part time manager job where the best available from many clubs come together for a few days, train, play a game and go home. Getting a country manager job is either reward for successful club mgmt or there was little options to whichever FA.

We need a club manager, who has managed at a high level, is a winner as opposed to a manager who wants to avoid defeat.

Of those touted/mentioned and in no order- Moyes, Rodgers, Laudrup, Dyche, Karanka not mentioned DeBoer at Ajax, never to grace VP Pearson, Bruce, Coleman, Warburton, and any other small team manager. AVFC is a massive club and the level of expertise of the manager should reflect that.

    FOL

  173. Agree mate, hardly an inspiring list. I have a feeling its going to be Redknapp, probably Louise but possibly ‘Arry, hate the knob with a vengence.

  174. What with his job in Jordan and his part time work at Derby his dogs bank account should do OK, he’s certainly tough enough, he reckons he left his last job because he needed a leg op and went straight into six games of golf a week, if you believe him that is.

  175. the lists not going to be great as we are shite and getting relegated! Agrre with Darren but the fact its the new boards first attempt to get a manager makes it interesting. Def no to Bruce and coleman and pulis. Wont be Harry.

  176. as well as the learner song the fans should also sing your not fit to wear the shirt every game…maybe the last ten mins even if we are winning! The players get away with murder and take no responsibility which has always been the case. Just pray to god we can ship as many out as poss.

If we have the new board in place and moyes as manager and a good clear out ill be happiest ive been in years

  177. SWV- I screwed up the ransom note when it said in very childlike handwriting,

“I, err, I mean we want £20 in unmarked coins and 6 cans of white lightening and a bag of scratchings

  178. Andrew
Agree about players ship them out, sick loßing every week watching tossers like Coco the clown Hutton lescott wastewood bacuna Gabby playing, getting paid to wear our shirt with no effort pride just stupid grin

  179. ‘Even if we’re winning’ – strange concept.
Agree that its interesting picking the next victim.

Agent S75 has returned safely from the warzone ( ASDA at Chelmsley Wood ).
