It’s been a while. A while in which I had nothing much to write or say. The team has left me flat. So flat that my interest has disappeared with the swallows this fall. What has prompted me to get fired up? Well the game against Tottenham has really done it for me.

The run of games Villa just had were bad and in all honesty I expected nothing. The win against Liverpool was evened out by the loss to QPR. Oh well, as expected. Now the game against Tottenham in my opinion was winnable due to Tottenham’s form so far. I even gave myself the time to watch on TV. Everything was fine until a few flare ups became a problem. Who on God’s green earth gave some Villa players the right to chuck it all and hurt the team? Is it impossible for them to hold their tempers? How many times do we have to watch Weimann have a snit and berate a referee? How often do we have to watch Benteke with all his skill get goaded into a penalty? That was his second red card because of his temper. Both of them watch Senderos agitate the opposition hoping for the retaliation penalty. Are they clueless when it happens to them? Or if they think a teammate has been wronged it’s their right to spout off at the mouth? This isn’t ice hockey where intimidation is part of the game. This is football where rules are rules and not to be bent or left to a referee’s interpretation. The referee might have lost the game some but his red card was called for by the rule book. It infuriated me but Benteke deserved it as written in the rule book.

This was a game Villa should have won and were in control or at least even with Tottenham up to the 60th minute. Yes, should have won but didn’t deserve to win. This loss was the players to lose. No one else. From the captain Vlaar to the perpetrators, they showed no maturity or professionalism.

A third player who deserves ⅓ of the blame was Sanchez. What was he thinking? Perhaps there is a football team in Pamplona Spain that could use his services. This guy could teach the bulls in the “running of the bulls festival” a thing or two. His tackle(?) was the play that broke the camel’s back. If anything sucked the remaining wind out of the other nine men left playing that was it. The resulting goal was just icing on the cake for Tottenham.

Lack of depth will do Villa in. Can’t replace Benteke, can’t replace Weimann, and can’t replace Sanchez. No opportunity for reprisal from the team. No level of punishment as there are no replacements up to snuff.

I have mentioned red cards in the past. Of all the penalties doled out by the football leagues this is the one that that punishes all the wrong participants other than the player. Not only does it affect the primary team and player but it also affects all the teams around the offending team. Playing a man short for the duration can affect teams both above and below. This isn’t fair. Losing a player for three games isn’t fair to the offending team let alone for the remainder of the game. Does the offending player get a financial fine for his digression?
This is one rule and resulting penalty that needs redressing. Starting with replays of the offending action for the officials.

Villa need to address this nasty little immaturity problem and soon or it will scupper whatever is left of the season.

On a side note I saw a studs up tackle with no penalty given other than a free kick.

  1. Hello Ian,
Even the positive fans like yourself and JL have been affected by recent events now. It’s ok for the club employees picking up bucket loads of cash even when they’re crepe and losing every week, they don’t live and breathe AVFC like we do. When Lambert got his contract i said blow it ( not exactly ) i’m walking away, but yo can’t just write off over 50 years of support like that. I just don’t know what to say other than we live in the hope that these parasites are eventually removed and we can become not just another football club again but Aston Villa, the pride of the Midlands.

  2. hi Ian, thanks for the post, i feel you pain.

unfortunately when the pressures on this team and particularly benteke and weimann lose their heads. granted the reffing was shite and benteke had been wound up constantly by tottenham just the same as chelsea did for his previous red. Our christian needs to learn to turn the other cheek and return the windup he’s an easy target. weimann has always been a gobshite. A point was a minimum in this game and once again we aimed the gun at our foot.

as you say we are paper thin and the loss of senderos and hutton has been huge. with senderos and vlaar back in defence we should stabilize. I still think there is a player in Sanchez, the bedlam that villa seem to go into prompts players into rash decisions and getting senderos in to organise will stabilize things for him and he will improve.
As for Lambert he needs to go, we sat back again and his subs were late and wrong

  3. Morning,
Firstly well done to Eddie Howe, top of the championship with a club the size of Walsall, no stars, budget, or massive fanbase, he is showing, all be it on a lower level, it can be done.
Gary Rowett hasn’t read the script, taking 4 Pts from 6 at the vermin, I want those b*****ds relegated so badly.
We will lose without a whimper against the Hammers and saints, sad times.

  4. Hi Ian, Like you I don’t feel up to much other than watching the rubbish; I don’t visit AVL often as I am fed up with reading the same stuff week in and week out. Not that the comments are not relevant, it’s because they are that I have no interest in reading them any more.
I agree with you Mark -Lambert has to go before we end up with Blues. Lerner must be aware that the sale of the club will not bring as much if it is a Championship club. Maybe he is banking on offsetting the shortfall by selling CB to Man U in January as suggested in the rumour mill.
Talks circulate about Pulis and Moyes but they would be stupid to take on a club deep in the mire; Pulis had a go at Palace and couldn’t agree with the absence of cash to strengthen the squad. Having said that look at what Warnock has achieved at Palace – their game against Sunderland was a classic in terms of endeavour and indomitable by both sides – something missing form Villa.

  5. Ian

Yes, the QPR game was the one that fired me up, funnily enough, after lapsing into disinterest, but the Spurs match just added fuel to the feeling.

Having previously thought, “Oh, well, we expected matches against the top teams to go against us” to then have the QPR debacle, and then the abandonment of discipline against Spurs, has just taken me over the wall of patience.

It now really has gone beyond the pale, and how these fellers (top down) consider themselves competent is hard to accept. Only rarely in Villa’s history have we had such incompetence in charge and those occasions have always ended in relegation.

Though I want Villa to do well against the Hammers and P & O Ferries, i.m.o. it would be better for the future of the club if we get well and truly beaten if it is to mean that the manager will go as a result.

Eight defeats on the trot would bring us dangerously close to the club’s record of 11, set in 1963. And that was when Villa were thought to be building a decent team.

  6. Ian,

Here is a tip move out into the wilderness where you cannot get a signal and then you don”t have to watch the crap Lambert serves up or just turn over if you think that is easier.

Aston Villa are a shadow of their former self in every way possible, we have people at the helm who do not have a clue from boardroom to manager, we have players who do not give a monkeys and will keep taking the clubs money until it is time for them to move on, most of our fans do not give a feck because otherwise they would have hung Lambert out to dry by now.

Other than that things could not be better, roll on West Ham another three points to add to Lamberts negative total.

    AVFC RIP.

  7. In 1963 we went on an 11 game losing streak. Lamberk will want to break that club record to

The saddest thing is, losing doesn’t hurt as much as it use to anymore. I hoping it’s just because it happens so regularly over the last 5 seasons it’s just became second nature now. I remember in Houlliers season it hurt so bad because the years before, we were winning. Then Mcliesh then came in, we all expected to lose. Then the Berk came in, we expected to win much more. Then we realised the guy is a clown, and he still is to this day. I never thought I’d ever even consider that losing is the best thing for us. It’s got to the point where I’d take losing our next game, or two, even 3 to get Lamberk out. I want him to fail now, I don’t want him to have the pleasure of winning. He’s destroyed this club, got a bunch of players who don’t give a feck either

The day the Berk leaves which will hopefully be on Monday, will be a great day. I can get back to wanting us to win.who ever is in Charge after Lamberk, be it Keane, Cowans, Pullis, I will ant nothing more than any of those three, or who ever, to do great for is club. I don’t want Lamberk to anymore. We all know one win will keep him in his job for a long time, even if we lose the next 5 after

  8. Frem

I think the whole ship needs rebuilding from the top down. If only PL goes, we’ll get another manager, who’ll motivate the team well enough to win a few games then it’ll be back to usual once the players feel safe. The whole club needs an overhaul. That can only happen when a) either the club is sold to a “let’s win trophies” type or b) the current owner brings in a new competent and successful manager with a decent kitty to rebuild the team with talented and proven professionals, who want to win trophies.

I was born in1963, hopefully not a bad omen.

  9. Very, very good Ian.Written straight from the gut. Some twonks in sport, especially footy, think passion is agression, chanelled into raising your hands and going nose to nose with a player.Well I have news for these overpaid, prima donna who are urinating on the shirt.Show passion, guts, and fortitude by coming from behind at places like QPR when we go a goal down.Show guts and determination by thrashing a side like Orient after they go into the lead.If you can`t do that then feck off the lot of you and take Lambert,Lerner and the rest with you. This current crop, from top to betttom, are not worth the grief and heartache.

  10. We need a clean sweep, new owners, new board members, new manager, new coaches….the whole shabang.

My dream is new owner with board of directors who are connected to villa. Bring back Stride….get Graham Taylor involved. Get Moyes and his coaches in place.

  11. The frustration in the comments is palpable, i feel it, i wonder if Lerner feels it, is there any expectation on his part with regard to Villa.

Does he expect to sell to someone who can genuinely bring Villa forward through investment and increased GLOBAL revenues
Does he expect to invest in the club in January and stem the tide of dismal results by bringing in better quality players
Does he expect to sack Lambert and put Keane in charge as an interim if results remain poor

A while ago through JL a letter was put together to address issues about the club and how it is run on and off the pitch, while mere acknowledgement was received, i’d hope and EXPECT that many more would sign up for a ‘protest’ letter as part of a process to reinvigorate this sleeping giant that limps from game to game. As i said we are merely a participant in the league and that may end this year if nothing changes having survived relegation not by performance but amazingly by three worse teams.

I expect anything written on a blog or commented on is dismissed as internet warrior nonsense but we need to access the board in some way to get our message across

AVFC PR have some crap about famous people supporting us,while every other paper and online site carries AVFC embarrassed by cancelling ‘goal of the month’. Where is the defence, i understand you can’t defend the indefensible but surely to god you comment on difficult opponents/injuries or something to show pride in Aston Villa Football Club

Roll on the fake claret and blues to beat us with Brazilian type football under Sam and we get shot of Lambert

    VTID

  12. Hello trinity, I was born in January in 63 it was a really bad winter I’m told. Can’t wait for the rugby, it’s great to have something to get exited about in sport instead of the constant villa drip of doom on your forehead

  13. Ian- why don’t you take up bear wrestling It can’t be any worse for your health than supporting villa. And yes I am talking about the animal but wether you want to wear clothes whilst wrestling one is up to you mate.

  14. Excellent article Ian, and right on the button.

Interesting to see that the present debacle has galvanised so many Lifers to come back and make comment, for us all to realise that we are all about here somewhere, even if we only mainly read the comments.

I do feel that we have many players both available now, and out on loan, who could make a big difference under the right manager. Like everyone i have huge concerns about Lambert and his concepts over what constitutes a good player. Like Frem, I much liked Helenous, who was never given a chance, to show what he could do. His belief that players must be lumps of high speed beefcake with no real skill. Weimann, before he bulked up, was a skilful forward, and the same with many others. when you look at our great stars, Brian Little, Gary Shaw, Andy Gray, David Platt, were all small and slight players, and we also had many thin and lanky players, none of these would have ever featured in a Lambert side, as he would said that they were not up to the game. I thought training was supposed to be about keeping fit, working out moves and tactics, not breaking each others legs or having mystery accidents like Delph, who, as far as I know, has not commented on it since. What did happen? how did he hurt himself so badly? There are so many questions, but no answers coming from Villa Park. We have three more claret and blue sides to play now, will we manage to beat any of them?

  15. PP,
Yes mate, good to see old friends and S75 returning and contributing such good posts.

When they said that there was no-one near Delph when he fell i thought what a load of bull, a professional athlete falling over on his todd and doing that much damage !! they really do think we’re daft.

So, as predicted, no newly signed contracts for Vlaar and Delph, just for Lambert and Crappy, what a club.

I remember 1963 as a bad year, now i know it was when Mark was born i will regard it as a disasterous year.

  16. Steamer,

I stand corrected all I know is that it is a long road back to where he lives but from where who knows, blimey none of this makes any sense whatsoever I wonder if there may be a place for me on the Villa board.

Read a story today about four footballers who have gone bankrupt and three played for the Villa, Hendrie, Calamity James and Djemba-Djemba, I bet they regret taking out that MBNA credit card.

    AVFC RIP

  17. hi steamer where you living now i suppose old bluey has gone now as for the villa they are finished as a club when you look at the dross and the way they play it makes you sick a complete clear out is needed from top to bottom iits just getting worse and wont stop until lamburk has gone

  18. John,

Do you really know someone high-ish at VP, are you really telling us someone is in charge down at B6, come on John have you over dosed on the cooking sherry, step away from the ginger nuts you mad fool, you are deranged I tell you completely doolally.

    AVFC RIP

  19. paul P- I think delphs is a case of him overdoing it in the gym, he’s been doing extra sessions and shoulders are the first thing that gets injured in most people. if I was going to take a guess it would be a torn rotator cuff to be that long out. if he had dislocated it would of been mentioned, another fuck up

trinity- i’m going for an England win, i’m hoping NZ had a bad journey:-)

  20. Ian
keep the jokes coming mate , No not the villa team , at least you can go for a long walk and not bump into any noses feeling really pleased , mind you wizza dispensed of one sunday in the con club . laugh !! …l nearly bought the next round ,
jd if your stupid enough to take up sww offer to meet up in Bristol , you will easily recognise him as he still wears the clothes he got from Nelson House , he reminds me of the bloke who gets sent down for 20 years and these are the clothes they took off him when he was locked up , last year when he turned up , even hickman asked him where’s the fancy dress party your going to ,

oh for a time machine , not to go back and see the old villa though , its to go back to 1962 and find Marks dad and get him absolutley pissed !!!!!

B62 , stay calm at work mate , these shits aint worth it , thats the noses and the villa board ,( is there such a thing as a board of one , )

    Runtins
if your reading this send me some jazz tunes to F/B mate ,

  21. Nelson House now that was a shop from the past used to buy all my button down shirts from there anyone remember Brutus and Jaytex checked, absolute quality.

Jesus ST75 last time I met you at Wembley Fast Eddie turned up in a yellow suit FFS so there was nothing wrong with my petrol blue two tone suit, and while we are at it Roscoe was still wearing the jumper from when we went to Burnley and he ransacked that chippie, he had fish and chips, pie and chips, sausage and chips with a saveloy and he said put it all in one wrapper.

    AVFC RIP.

  22. Ahh–some humour. 🙂 Thanks for the comments guys. You are right Frem, it gets easier to absorb the pain. I built a deck this fall and managed to hit my forefinger 3 times with a framing hammer. Same day. The third time I didn’t say fuck or anything. Didn’t even wet my pants. Just reached into my pouch for another nail. That’s what it is like at the moment. West Ham will be the third strike for me.
Who would come in to save Villa? All the tea in China won’t entice anyone as a reputation is more important for most managers. I wouldn’t mind watching Roy try to light a fire under this bunch and maybe his tactics would be a breath of fresh air. Maybe a good punch up is needed in the dressing room. I’m sure some of the players are just as fed up as we are. Unless they are just waiting for the January window.
John how high up can you reach at Villa? I’m hoping you have some influence and not just better pies.

Did you know that most Blues fans were results of family reunions–in 1963?

  23. steamers75 no worries i can do that but if you would like a bucket load of music get onto dropbox -if you dowenload it i can then put as much music as you want on it which you will have instant access too.

same for your other mrs our Jen as i promised her some tunes

Matt mentioned he may have another way of me sharing – Holla if you can help Matt

  24. ian- getting close to the knuckle mate, I can take ST75 wanting to put a mickey finn in my dads drink and do whatever comes naturally to him, and thats considering his grave has barely settled and he’s on the memorandum page of this site, but to suggest he was a blues supporter is uncalled for, any more of that and i’m calling the mounties

  25. could’nt have been my mom, we had lighted newspaper rolled up and dipped in lard till 1973 , couldnt afford candles

    sww
eddie had that suit on at yarmouth last year mate and he doesnt take to kindly to pisstakers , i’ll let him know , him and his wife doing Himalayas at the moment for charity ,and Rosco still has that jumper on , bring your purse next time your up . lardy arse , remember jaytex and brutus ?? you still wear the fuckers and your 20 button flares .

    B62
Eddie Howe , think he may become a top manager , l remember him going back to bournemouth the other year and it seemed he wished he had never left them before , l think he will stick it out with them to see how far he can go , l do think he could get them to the premier ,nighmare scenario , we get them in the FA cup and turn us over big time , we have on the noses that our 8-0 was against chelsea , so we still got a bit of a piss-take on them , at the moment ,, hows the little un coming on ,

  26. even “nightmare” need to stop eating crisps while on the laptop as l think the keyboard needs cleaning

note to the coppers looking for Rob the killer off corrie , he was in the social sunday , got pics of him with another criminal ………Dewar

  27. Ian- i’ve seen that on the tele over here how old is it 70’s or 80’s? 🙂

st75- lard! you were lucky, if it was a clear night dad would channel the moonlight through a hole in the roof with a bit of drainpipe, if not you daren’t move incase you trod on a rat trap.
on the tit front net them and fry them with your fat balls, thats what the french do

  28. Runtins
ok will have a look at the dropbox thingy , no doubt jens will do the same , cheers mate .

if matt dont hurry up l will be sharing his brandy he won last year with meself , does brandy go off ?? anyone .

steamer hows your back ? mines bloody aching . mo bloody collins ,

  29. trinity- union for me mate don’t mind league but no contest for me between that and union. never played league though I think I would of liked it.

Ian- the suet? are they one of your local tribes?

  30. Ian. Sanchez is making silly (costly) mistakes and looks off the pace still sometimes but I reckon there’s a good player in there. He seems to be improving each game. His effort can’t be criticised, he breaks up many opposition attacks and is always making himself available.
When he cuts out the underhit passes and careless tackles you’ll grow to love him.

  31. Hey robbo, maybe I was a bit hasty with Sanchez and he will pick it up. I was willing to let things slide until he got that penalty. I think someone should have had a chat with him before that penalty. I can see it if Villa were behind and really pushing but they were defending a tie game and didn’t need anything rash.

The local tribe here are the Heckarwy. As in where the heckarwy anyway? Plenty of first nation art and culture here. I quite admire their culture as it relates to the natural world. We could learn a few things from them. Check out Haida art on Google images. One of my favourites.

Dudley Do Right is from the 60’s

  32. Ian- yes mate we could all do with more respect for nature, I wish more cultures had retained their local knowledge about how to live in nature. maybe it would teach are pampered idiots to appreciate what they have.
On that subject a mate of mine teaches business studies at a local college. the best students in his class are polish, two girls age 17 have used the course to start a business. on the other extreme 1/2 the class (all locals) complain that he’s failing them when they don’t listen in class, take notes or finish assignments, blows the mind. We have become lazy and expectant i’m afraid, probably why most can’t be arsed to complain to the villa bosses.
dudley was probably on the re-runs for kids on saturday mornings, along with swiss family robinson, robinson crusoe and an Abbot and costello film, not to forget Norman Wisdom though 🙂

  33. Runtins
l will get Jessie to sort the dropbox thingy ,l tried and and typed the wrong word , l put dirtbox , jeez what came up reminded me of some of the things sww used to try and chat up in the Gary Owen after his first half of tapwater ,

Marks whats the point of writing to the villa boss , learner would see it as Fanmail , you cant really believe any of the complaints letters get to him,
l got called into the villa offices in the early 90s as one game we were a bit late and we had my young nephew chris with us and as we walked to our seats the sly shit sitting in the 2nd seat in kicked out and caught my nephew so l grabbed him round the throat and sure enough a steward came and said sit down or you will be thrown out , so half time l went past and said to the arse follow me , l want you to kick me , he never moved , so on my way back l stood on his toes , and said to him if you think its clever kicking out to a 6yro you wait till we get outside , he pissed off during the second half . low and behold l got a letter from the villa saying l had to go in and see the chief steward , as l sat down l saw that there were piles of letters and loads piled on the floor addressed to ellis unopened and covered in dust , he told me he had recieved a letter complaining about my behaviour to a fellow fan , when l told him why he seemed to back down , thing is he showed me the letter he got and there was the address of this shithead , he said he was going to let me keep my ST but l will have to be moved so l told him he would have to move about 15 blokes as well , so he compromised and said he’d move the other bloke , and l told him to move him out of the Holte altogether for his own good as there is now about 40 blokes looking for him , never saw him again till l went and waited outside his house , wish l was 20 years younger at the time as l couldnt catch him . but anyway on seeing all them letters sitting there l came to the conclusion those letters never went further than that office , and a son of one of the steamers worked at the club and told us that the letters to ellis never got past Steve Stride ,,,,

  34. ST75- none of that would surprise me mate, I think dumb as he is Lerner has been fed a crock of shit by all and sundry. thats why an empty villa park would get through to him and get him asking questions or a protest with thousands of emails and letters to one of his other companies not villa. otherwise I think we cannot be sure he’d get the full picture.

  35. Trinity – yes I will be watching some decent sport on Saturday and then I’m not sure about watching Villa – I might save that delight to watch the live transmission on demand on Sunday.
I was watching the Barca Ajax match on Astro Sport (Malaysian channel) and one of the pundits was Colin Gibson who was billed as an England player.
Isn’t it strange that a lot of Villa supporters want us to lose so Lambert will get the push – unfortunately I don’t think Lerner would react that way – he’d probably give him a contract extension for scoring against Spuds.
We’re of now to float our krathong down the Pran river; anyone interested Google Loy Krathong. I’m bathing in mossie spray as it’s dark and they are everywhere by the river

  36. Much as their was a barrier between the fans and Ellis, I feel there is an even bigger barrier between us and the dumb yank. He surrounds himself with nodding dogs and yes men , layering up protecting him from the reality at VP. His accountant will be happy though, all this revenue for minimal recent outlay, a few days ago the papers ran a story regarding US owners in the English game, they had Lerner down to make over £100m + profit if he sold for his asking price£150m-200m), mainly due to the recent £70m TV windfall which he will again receive next year. This is stark contrast to the Bollox coming out he would make a £200m loss. Fox is only here to boost the revenue, in the wake of falling attendances, merchandise matchday revenue( gates well down with over 10k empty seats for some games)., in order so when we do sell or go down he isn’t out of pocket.
Lambert is not to blame for this, however is is fully to blame for the on pitch debacle that is supposed to be a football team, his purchases have been poor in the extreme( bar Benteke), his tactics useless, his substitutions clueless, man management awful( he has now fallen out with Okores and hasn’t spoken to him for 2 months, banishing him to the U21’s), his assistants have been sacked for bullying( no way he didn’t know what was going on), he has broken every negative record going, 24 defeats in 37 games, 23 points from 105 available. He lies to the fans , he is incoherent and talks Bollox in his pressers, anyone else would have gone or resigned.
We will lose to WHU, it maybe a real drubbing, let’s hope this is enough to warrant sacking the arrogant prick, he can take arak with him , this gives us 2weeks to bring in Moyes/Howe/Laudrup etc etc

  37. Ian,
Our local tribe are called ‘The Woodies’ most of them are obese, wear garish clothes and have beards, the blokes are almost as bad, they live in tower blocks and have the windows open all day with their happy boxes on full tilt playing music ??? where you can’t decipher the words, when you engage them in conversation they call you dude and follow that with innit, sometimes i feel like Captain Kirk when he first met the Klingons.
    Mark,
Union is the women’s version of rugby played by fat people who run into each other a lot, huge difference in fitness levels, when Jason Robinson and Inga the winger returned from loans to Union clubs they were like wet sponges. Barth were the big frogs at the time and they played Wigan at both codes, Wigan did them by about 90 points and only lost the return by a few. When Robinson and Farrell went Union the Southerners said they’d bomb but they were probably the two best players in that code in the world where as John Gallagher was World Union PotY and expected to lead Leeds to glory, 18 months later he was booted and spent most of his time in the stiffs.
Steve Stride, although a million miles better than anything Lerner has appointed was an arsehole, all he did was creep around Herbert as his lapdog, if it benefited Villa but not Herby then it didn’t happen and he was the key that opened the door for his return in 1983 which ultimately destroyed any hopes of being a top club again.

  38. SWV did a good impression of Norman Wisdom, at least i think it was an impression, maybe not. All these mealies with their caps think they’re peaky blinders but in reality are Norman impersonators.

  39. Steamer

You are spot on about Stride,he used to follow Ellis around like a puppy.I saw this many times first hand.Remember the England documentary made when Taylor was the gaffer and Phil Neal was his AM?You know the game where Koeman scored from the FK? Well Neal just nodded and agreed with everything Taylor said, that was how Ellis and Stride inter acted I saw this myself many times.

  40. b62- the wage reduction was a reality and we were in the shit. now we are in the clear partly because the tv money went up . most teams in our bracket (player wise) have wage bills around £50 mil ours is £74 mil when bent etc goes lerner will be making a mint but I think he’ll keep it lean for a couple of seasons and recoup his money as nobody will pay £150mil + for us. thats why the twat will keep lambert if he can. as you say minimum investment.

steamer- League players are very fit but the Union players have improved on that front since Bill Beaumont played and they are huge now, its 2 different games. I like the tactical side whereas league is like a game of british bulldog on a pitch.

  41. Can anyone explain why Villa are being asked to answer for so-called misconduct ? every view showed Benteke surrounded by Spuds but no Villans, Chadli deserved a good snotting, is it just a sop to get Spuds off after all, they’re London.

The current debate about letting the club know our feelings is unfortunately irrellevent, Lerner won’t be told much about our growing dissent and wouldn’t care anyway, as B62 mentioned, he’s in it for the $$$. Remember Jenny saying that she’d sent SIX letters to Chubby and never received a single reply, i’m afraid its an us versus them situation but they’ve got all the ammo.
Talking of the Chubster, his influence on Forest has taken hold, think they’ve lost most of their games since he went, he must be playing as well as getting crepe short term sponsors.

  42. Clive

I checked out Loy Krathong, sounds like a nice thing to do, though don’t send any lanterns skywards near airports. Not worth dying for. Has life changed for your family there since the coup or is it just the same as usual?

    Steamer

I remember John Gallagher the English born All Black going to league and immediately just fading away. We thought he was just more interested in his Oxford studies. He was a fine rugby player, though. Mark Brooke-Cowen was another from that 1987 team that went to league and just disappeared, couldn’t make the transition apparently. John Kirwan, Kurt Sherlock and Frano Botica went on to have good league careers.
Jonathan Davies did well, didn’t he. They must have been weeping in the valleys when he converted, huge loss to any team.

    Mark

I’m hoping for a triple come Saturday. That’s unlikely to happen if Villa’s playing:) I think the rugby’s too close to call.

  43. Mark,
Just look at the names, Wasps, Baa Baas, WTF, League have Wigan Warriors and Bradford Bulls, proper names, what next Leicester Teddy Bears ? Rember Guscott playing in a Barth v Bristol derby, you couldn’t tell who was who because of the mud and then Guscott came into view, not a mark or stain on him and don’t start me on Wilkinson, Frano Botica was different class as a kicker as was Matthew Ridge.

Talking of Wasps, how come JLR are sponsoring them when they play in a different city to the majority of their workforce ? i’d have thought Fox would have had an easy job to persuade them to throw a few quid towards VP or are we such an unattractive proposition under Lerner ?

  44. Trin,
Frano was a great in a great team, probably the best sports team that the uk has ever produced, absolutely uncanny kicking. Although my favourite was Shaun Edwards. Believe it or not i think Davies never got the credit he deserved in either code, magnificent player.
Richard Harris wasn’t that good in that film though, dropped far to many balls, should have stayed in union or Camelot.

  45. hi steamer why no reply was in your neck of the woods last night went to nec to see paolo Nutini he was great but what a piss hole to get in and out cant be bothered to wright about villa as they are simply doomed as we all know with this fool in charge

  46. Darren,

Cheers – I’ll do that. How much comes of it remains to be seen, but I’ve already withdrawn my sale of books through the Villa bookshop and if we keep up that kind of pressure, something eventually might give. But depressing attendance figures may well be the main solution to it all…

  47. JD,
Sorry mate, had to nip over to the UN for a debate on unilateral nuclear disarmament. Paulo Nutini ??
as you say it is a dive, last concert i saw there was Santana, S75 loaned me his vintage kaftan and Mrs S75 gave me a few beads, as usual with Santana a great and spiritual happening …. sorry, dunno what happened there, for a few moments i was back in ’68.
Keep your head up mate, anyone would think we’ve lost six in a row, think positive, all the old timers are still at VP, Keith Hughes paid a visit from Amsterdam to watch the Spuds game, JB, Punchy and Choff go to every game, remember loyalty matters, ask David Unsworth.

  48. Yes John,
Depressing attendance figures indeed, why are they so high ?
I’ve always defended our fans, especially the Holte End, when i die i want to be flushed down the bog there, but this lot have blood like gnats piss, they’ll stand anything, i don’t dispute that, however misguided, they get behind the team at away games but, imo and also the opinions of others, they’re damaging resistance to Lerners oppressive regime. If they stayed away for a couple of games and get 15 – 20,000 gates Lerner and Fox may, just take notice, i doubt if they get any pleasure out of watching the shower.

  49. Walcott in the London/Manchester/Liverpool squad, hasn’t kicked a ball for 10 months and is crepe anyway, But Arsenal are London.
Ricky Lambert ? played one game hasn’t he ? what’s it all about ?

  50. When I read your last post Steamer,it just reiinforces my hatred for all things football.Barca on live in the CL…..yawn….ditto Real Madrid………Bayern …….pictures of overpaid knobs with their WAGS,incompetent referees cheating,Fergie won`t just walk away he wants the limelight still,Blatter milking the game for all he can, timewasting, diving, lying, lack of ability, hype and bullshine in every paper,on radio and TV,Lineker,Lawrenson,Shearer the whole lot of `em.To think I used to live and breath footy, yet now I will react with relief when it all goes pop.

  51. Voting with your feet is the only way to show displeasure. Take away a large part of the income and they have to take notice. Villa need that “Black Magic Woman” to get anywhere now.
ST75–you needed a stiff sole on your boot and then run it down the bugger’s shin to the top of his foot. Apply pressure and then grind.
I imagine all the loanees are quite happy to be away. You just can’t wash the stink of 6 in a row off. Who would want to come and who would take what we have?

  52. hi steamer had 3 season tickets last season sent them back when we lost to palace at home just could not stand any more and they have got worse since if all true fans did the same as my self something would be done but the happy clappers are happy with the dross so what can be done

  53. John, I don’t think the happy clappers are happy with the state of football at Villa Park. They are just as pissed but have a positive streak in their make up that wishes for the best in the next game. My positive streak is paper thin at the moment and trying to be positive is trying to say the least.

  54. steamer
l want the kaftan back mate ,the cats are freezing now , you can keep the beads and punchy only goes to away games , also l got some membership cards for the lions club, under witton road stand we can go get our pics took with some of the players lol.

B62 good to hear mate ,

    Brazil
sending a box over this month mate ,

  55. Ian
as hard as it may seem , some of the HCs are happy with the football , they even say they see an improvement , l just let them get on with it now as lv lost the will to listen to their explanations , but if their pissed , l’d love to have a drink of the stuff they’re on mate ,they must see pink elephants at half-time ,

wheres Liam , is he rowing his way over here , if you read this let us know what dates you have , please dont say the 20th dec as thats my bday , and fatboy fat Ali has booked a xmas meal , mind l think l could get out of it JD , shoff to you ,

  56. st75- to be fair mate who wouldn’t have been happy with the first few games after getting constant hidings at the end of last season. shit footy but clean sheets and something to build on. but as usual we are only one or two injuries from going crepe to really crepe. If you keep watching corrie eventually you’ll think its good and clap along. i’ve been to villa park once since mon fooked off and that was because I was given tickets for my birthday and I wanted to get the mrs a balti pie.

I’ve got a question, nobody seems to rate the players Lambert has brought in except benteke, so how the hell is a new manager gonna get on when he finds out he’s got to start again with the money he can sell them for? yet another buy 1 get one free sale at villa, can’t see randolph forking out £80 mil next summer if we stay up, £10 mil is about the going rate for a half decent player

  57. S75

At times the football has improved on what’s gone on before this season, but the issue now is mainly the fact we can hardly score!! … And six straight defeats, going on 8.

  58. exactly john, Lambert has put his eggs into one defensive basket and hoped Benteke would be enough to get us a win every now and then but at least a draw with his negative tactics. cole is the biggest joke going, the lad gets to come on when we are losing, not one start and he was Lamberts hope for creativity. we shouldn’t be surprised as we spent nothing and got rid of most of last years buys.

  59. mark
l’d rather watch corrie than the crap were getting from the villa and no l never fell in with the crowd after the first few games , the football was still rubbish to watch and the thing is from day one l never wanted him here , its in my first post on AVL and you have hit it on the head , could a new manager cope and do better with these players , err probably not , but l hate the thought that we would give him more money to buy more rubbish players , but saying that you never know with a new manager , different tactics different training , who knows , l dont really blame the players l blame the ejit for his non-discript tactics , heres something that might surprise you , my fav villa player of the 80s , Des Bremner , nothing fancy but a 110% and thats the kind of player l admire mostly , l remember standing on the spion kop end , ( 20 of us had got into it to piss them off ) villa vs the shits and mark walters done that trick to him and l thought to myself , brilliant ,but why did you do it to him, l did let mark know when meeting him that it wasnt nice doing it to him, but hey thats me ,

lm off for a pint ,

  60. John,
That’s pathetic, it goes to show Fox is as bad as Chubby, what is it with these people, they ask you to spend your money watching tripe and losing tripe at that, throw you out if you complain and ignore polite suggestions, what have we done to deserve this vermin, its OUR club, Lerner used the word custodian and now he’s coming the heavy, well bollox to him and Fox, the way people are deserting they’ll be glad to be out of the club, you won’t see Lerner at VP again because he’s a security risk and he knows it.

  61. john lerwill

could you show the reply to us they have not got a clue about ordinary fans they should remember xmas coming xmas presents to buy half season tickets for sale

  62. James

    Precious little to report, really!

    The reply:

    Good afternoon John

Thanks for highlighting the article below.

    Best wishes

“The article below” was Darren’s comment.

  63. thanks john
    read darrens article
never seen as much mismanagement at one football club our history littered with it really bad since mon 3 season on slippery slope since

  64. steamer- its the spurs game that got me thinking, they’ve got a ridiculous amount of talent there but they have been seriously shit all season. I thought we would beat them weeks back. they have a decent enough manager and they just can’t click what hope is there for a pullis to turn us around? we will have to make the tunnel bigger for that double decker we’ve ordered.

James gill- Mon was were the slope got slippery IMO once he started filling the squad with high paid players with no re-sale and long contracts. most he discarded after a couple of games.
Imagine where we could have been with a rodgers or martinez in that period, someone who could of instilled something more than kick and rush. the youngsters could be being brought through with barry and cahill to guide them. we tried for the instant champs instead of the steady build and it ruined us in more than one way

  65. mark
mon might have been the start of slippery slope but same story mismanagement, should have got somebody in that knew a bit about football both sides playing and commercial on transfer side we spent about 100 m since mon left on ireland bent makoun given huuton zog and all lamberts with only benteke that will make a decent profit, friedal we wouldnt give a long term contract and that was after not missing a game for us from when he signed.
commercial side when mon was here we where on sky at least twice as much, playing in a nike kit, the media loved us , villapark was sold out most time, never on the box in half empty stadium we should have been in a position to get good sponsers in,now even local sponsers dont want to know its going to take a miracle to turn this around

  66. Good evening Ian. I’m really glad you wrote that article as with all the controversy with the ref and our apparent ‘improvement’ the players have escaped criticism from most quarters. Like you I was bloody livid seeing that fiasco on Sunday night . Where was Vlaar – shouldn’t he have been telling Benteke to pipe down . Isn’t that the captains job . They looked like a bunch of brawling girls . The same goes for Weiman – Im sick of his drama queen antics week in week out. We threw away a possible three points because they couldn’t behave . Regardless of whether the spurs players should v been sent off. Benteke’s raised hand gave the ref no option. His return to match fitness will be delayed further and now we have to rely on Hutton again as our biggest goal threat .
    Stood stupid stupid .

  67. still here folks,

but like everyone else, just totally p^^^ed off. really cannot see where we are going, or what can be done to change things, without a complete supporter revolt……maybe we should go for the million mask protest, and all turn up late for the kick-off at the next home game, and all wearing those great masks..seemed to have some effect. we can then say we will all wear the masks until Lambert is removed.

Have no real desire now to go to Villa Park and use the remainder of my season ticket, except if I feel the need to join in with a few more of the diehards, I usually sit with in the Lower Holte, sharing their frustrations. I am sure it is only the bond of the lads in the Holte that keeps it alive, but really could not believe how empty it was for the Spuds game. It really is getting to the serious stage when Villa cannot continue to ignore the fans. The concern for the money men is that this area of Aston now has no real value without Aston Villa, until it is designated a full redevelopment zone with mega buck grants available.

  68. Interesting piece and I am so proud to have had my photo with him on a visit to VP last season.

Perhaps he may also be able to supply some decent Asian footballers to replace some of the dross.

Everyone now seems to be getting ready to desert the sinking ship as it slides ever onwards towards the championship, with no way in view of stopping it this time.

Lambert does not have the steel to instil in the players to make them a side capable of getting a good result week in, week out. The players all seem to say we need to get a good result, but in their comments, virtually a draw will do…..No the mentality needs to be, nothing less than win, is acceptable. Soon the side will be so poor we will start wishing we had Heskey and Holman back to be our leading goalscorers……..and Enda Stevens will become captain…

  69. Yes as we have all read Delph is off and Vlaar will probably go in the January window as well neither wants to play championship football.
I also see Lambert saying he does not fear the sack, so I ask the question what motivates and drives our Scottish manager, we all work as hard as we can because we feel failure to do so could end in many of us losing our jobs, so fear of the sack should be a positive used to drive you to get results, but if that fear does not exist what success can we expect from Mr.Lambert, although I suppose a massive pay off when you get the bullet actually helps to heal the hurt of losing your job.

So that leads me to the big question for today from what we have all seen so far this season which three teams will be relegated.

    AVFC RIP

  70. Our team in 2008 against West Spam which was Mellbergs last game –

Aston Villa: Carson, Mellberg, Laursen, Knight, Bouma, Petrov, Reo-Coker, Barry, Young, Carew (Harewood 87), Agbonlahor.
Subs Not Used: Taylor, Salifou, Routledge, Maloney.

Some good players in there can”t remember that Salifou !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    AVFC RIP

  71. Angry about Delph, not too surprised though. Allthough i thought he would sign a new deal and stay for another year or two.

Though Vlaar would be going though.

Villa are dying in front of our eyes.

  72. Andrew

A slow agonising death too.The only winners in this situation, are the shirt manufactrers of Chelsea etc.A new generation of Villa fans is lost now and they will become Sky sofa fans, wearing the shirt of whoever is top of the league. You`ll never get those people back again, ditto the fans who have stopped going. The clubs in the Championship will welcome Villa as our marvellous away fans will sell out and spend well.
Not bothered by Delph,we stuck by him through injury after injury, but if you want loyalty, get a dog.
Where is the source of the Delph departure?

  73. So Lamberk doesn’t fear the sack or feel pressure.

Good to know our manager doesn’t give a flying feck

Hope a West Ham hammer us and the away fans turn. If he stays, The Saitns will batter us to

  74. Exactly runtings……why the hell would any decent player stay at our shambles of a club!

Im a villa fan and id be off too if i was a player!!

I am starting to loose interest alltogether…..im numb to it

  75. I’d take losing our next 2/3 games if it means Lamberk will get sacked. In a ideal world, he will go on Monday. It might take a heavy defeat for that to be the case. It might even take us dropping in the drop zone but so be it. One win, and he will stay for the rest of the season. I don’t want that. I hate the man so much and it’s got to the point where O don’t want him to succeed at us

  76. Can’t blame Delph for wanting to go somewhere competitive. Liverpool would be a good fit for him.
Management will look incompetent if they can’t cash in and recoup Villa’s substantial investment in Delph.

Maybe Lambo doesn’t fear the sack because financially he has no worries like the rest of us do.

    2-0 tomorrow

    COYVB!

  77. The state of our club has gone beyond a joke , Delph leaving, Vlaar looks to be off, Tekkers won’t be too far behind( I reckon summer at the latest ), Lambert seems to be more secure in his job, than a North Korean dictator, even though both are cunts and bring misery to the masses, even the Vermin have stopped the rot( let’s hope it’s short lived).
We will get well and truly beaten at WHU this weekend, if this doesn’t get Lambert the sack, nothing will, I am now praying he has attack of dignity and does the decent thing, or has some medical mishap that means he has to leave, taking his idiot side kick with him.

  78. Well,

Soon will be off to Bristol to drown my sorrows and receive some TLC to see me through another awful weekend of Villa failure…as like everyone else, can only see Downing , Collins and gang, doing their utmost to sink Villa one last time…

Perhaps we can eventually organise a week long wake to complete the final countdown…

  79. Evening guys and gals; just finished in the garden for the day and enjoying a quiet evening beer or three.
Trinity = I didn’t send any lanterns up – let a few fish and birds back into the wild and then watched the skys for any rogue lanterns over our house – fortunately the ones I saw were too high or drifting easy of us towards the sea shore.
Paul – I didn’t get to read all the posts but if you were referring to Peter Withe – he was manager of the Thai national side for a while and returned a couple fom years ago to manage a Thai Premier division side that ended up at the bottom, not sure if he was pushed or walked but he is now managing a second tier team that is near the bottom of that league.
Lifers may be interested in my comment (as my Facebook alter ego Troels Lund) to an article in the Evening Mail that said Lambert understood our frustration after a 6 game losing streak.
Of course you understand our frustration you berk, nut what are you doing about it? As for the Evening Mail quote ‘Crucially, the supporters at Villa Park have remained loyal to the Scot
who signed a four-year deal in mid-September following an unbeaten start
to the season’ – don’t you read your own comments columns and Villa Facebook page – try reading any of the blogs Aston Villa Life, My Old Man Said and 7500 to Holte and see how much we have remained loyal.

  80. joe Cole is our PR machine. Speaking crap as usual. Says we want to play good football. Hahhaha

He will start tomorrow ahead of Grealish of course. Gabby will also start ahead of Grealiah. Zoggy will be out wide although he shown on sat he’s a very good behind the striker

    —————-Guzan———

    Lowton—-Vlaar—-baker——-Sissy

    —————Westy——clev———-

    ——————–Cole————–

    Wiemann——-gabby———–Zoggy

I hope we play the 4213 again, but we won’t. It will be 451 anti football away from home.

  81. B62.. there is NO WAY PL will walk..

WHy would he.. his rep has gone down the toilet.. NO Prem Club will touch him..

So why leave us.. only the sack will get rid of this CLOWN.

  82. Frem.. i know your an emotional guy..

But Joe Cole starting.. seriously.. have u seen his cameo performances and his league cup start.. the guy is shot.. finished.. another dud we brt in for no reason..!!

  83. What a shock, Delph & Vlaar leaving, who expected that ? Only the idiotic BS’s at VP suggested they may stay.
This club is in a worse state than i can ever remember, if not since it was formed, Every single facet of the football club has turned rotten, we’re pathetic at every level.
Lerner made a sick attempt at persuading Villans that he’d regained his enthusiasm for the club but only a fool would believe that, action speak louder than words. Does he think that he knows more about football and AVFC than the fans ? or is he just trying to con them again, after all his Daddy was a shark too.
Lamberts record since he arrived at VP screams “I’m a fucking idiot, sack me” unfortunately the people employing him are bigger idiots. Does anyone see how exactly we are going to free ourselves from these clueless imbeciles who are destroying the club aided and abetted by the dumb arsed sky wankers who follow the club ? no, we’re going down with a whimper and when we do the fake apologies will come out of the club, Lerner, Lambert, Fox, its fucking obvious what’s going to happen, only you can prevent it, either do something or bugger off because you’re the worst thing to happen to AVFC EVER.

  84. LH- I don’t want him to start, but I think he will. He might be able to find a pass others can’t.

I want ZOGGY to play the number 10 role and Grealiah out left but we won’t. The Berk will set up for a 0-0, or a low scoring defeat

  85. Can see it now : Lambert “i must take my responsibility for our relegation, although its not my fault, we have a good honest bunch at Villa and we’ll be trying our hardest to win promotion, We’ll go again.”

Lerner : Gurgle, i didn’t know you guys had something like regleltation, whatever, don’t blame me or i’ll cry.”

Fox : “Im off, bollox to you lot.”

    Keane : Ditto.

The Holte End : “Fuck me, i never saw that happening. ”

    The local media :

  86. very terse reply to my excellent post John 🙂 very disappointed, at least expecting an invite to meet the board, had the suit cleaned in expectation 🙂

@southwestvillian, my thoughts exactly on Lambert having no fear of the sack albeit most of his comments relate to admiring how Big Sam dealt with the boo boys. I’d say he’s just preparing for the boo boys this weekend and boy does he deserve it. It’s equially disturbing/frightening that Lambert appears to want to continue being our manager.

i had the misfortune to read another article on his comments which suggested that Lambert had moved from hero to zero following the start of the season results. i won’t provide the link to save you but there was no comment facility to categorically state that he has never been a hero.

I’ve not seen a direct comment from Delph so i’ll reserve judgement until I see him with a pen in his good hand signing for his new paymasters, I expect him to leave, I expect him to be thankful to Villa and i expect him to go the way of previous departees by looking good in an average side does not make you a star.

Our predicament will ensure the likes of Vlaar and Benteke will go, and players who do stay are either not good enough to play in another team or loyal to Aston Villa, given there is no loyalty in football, I expect the former will account for us having a squad for next season in the Championship or Prem League 2 or whatever a new name will be.

  87. Delph said he’s keeping his options open or going as its known. Vlaar will too as we will make nothing when they leave for free in the summer and line their pockets. The question is will the money be spent to replace them? Considering good teams are coming in for them where does that leave us? Will we attract similar players if we are championship bound? Or will we just refuse to sell if things are dire at Crimbo? My favourite would be let Clarke break their legs in January just before they move

  88. If Delph goes I blame
nobody but the club. At the end of last season and the start of this he was practically begging for a new deal in public. He said he’d love to stay but while he wanted things sorted out the club hadn’t bothered and were in no hurry.

Clearly the priority was tying up a deal for Lambert in the face of interest from absolutely nobody else.

  89. steve w. nobody was interested in him then, can’t blame him but don’t imagine he was asking out of love of relegation battles. about 4-5 games in we were in top 4 and when the new deals were done he could of signed then as things looked ok at that point ( despite crap football) but him and Vlaar held out and delph got into the england squad, can’t blame it on villa, players get their heads turned by better teams and more money simple as

  90. There’s a place out here called Tranquille. It’s for the mentally disturbed. They painted it claret and blue and named two wings (wings Frem!) Lambert and Lerner Hall.

  91. I disagree Mark. I can and do blame it on Villa.

Delph wanted to sign, we needed him to stay, Villa dithered as usual and now it looks like he’s going. Of course it is their fault.

  92. The players’ agents play a big part in the decision. After all the more money they get for said player the more they put in their pockets. Does anyone think the agents have the players best interests in mind 100%? Do you think they care if the player is sitting on the bench like ricky Lambert? Not a tap.

  93. I don’t know steve, villa were put up for sale at the end of last season and nobody knew where they stood, In retrospect its stupid not to tie up your best players financially but even now we don’t know what is going on, Learner has made it clear as mud and if I was a player with better prospects being offered at this level you got to think of yourself because the club sure will, the only true loyalty is the fans. maybe him and Vlaar got offers last season but didn’t think them enough, its just as likely. Players make noises to attract offers and put pressure on the club to dig deep sometimes

  94. Thanks for that Vid you sent me Ian. Can’t get over how wonderful it all looks.
How do agents make money from free agents though ? Like Delph will be?

Aston Villa logic- Sign Cleverly in Jan for 8’million. Let Delph go in the summer for nothing. Jesus, this club needs sorting out

  95. frem- I imagine they negotiate the contract and get a cut of the money the player is given because he’s cost nowt, delph will probably get £2mil straight up and a higher wage than if he’d cost ten mil already.

  96. Is the rugby tomorrow morning or Sunday Morning ? I have no interest in a rugby apart from when England play

I bet if Sender is fit, Lamberk will play 5 at the back and drop our creative players. Lamberk logic

  97. have read all posts about the players leaving or supposed to be leaving just ask yourselves would any of you not do the same if you where any player at villa park thats why i feel sorry for young Jack given the bulshite by Lamburk told he would get games and then dismissed as just another kid on the books along with the rest he dont fancy as they dont like playing the crap way he plays when you look at the players this burk has signed can you blame any one wanting to leave villa park its just the rats leaving a sinking ship as they dont want to go down with the rest of them .
the problem is that last season Lerner stated that Lamburk would keep his place even if we went down that was the reason i sent my season tickets back to fatty Falkner with a letter why he replied thank you we will sell these again . so is there any reason that lamburk has not been told the same thing this year is that why he dont give a toss and aint bothered about trying to get the fans back onside .
and can anybody tell me how we can win the under 21 next jen cup and not one of those kids are used Why?
Still look on the bright site even money west ham to beat our shower of shite is a complete steel and should be at least 1to 20 on so fill your boots and get a few quid then at least you can pay to get pissed tomorrow night after the usual shite lamburk will turn out

  98. JD,
Read your comments on the BM site, how true.
I have to say that Aston Villa is a lesson in futility, can anyone actually be proud to support this shite ? Can anyone be stupid enough to believe anything that Lerner, Lambert & Fox tell them ? It’s so obvious that these tossers are screwing the fans to the detriment of the club, i wouldn’t trust any Villa employee as far as i could throw them.

  99. frem- rugby 1.30pm on sky2 mate

Lambert got a four year thank you from Lerner as he’s still selling and he’s been a good dog. as usual they are trying to pull the wool to keep fan interest whilst spending as little as poss, its the only explanation that makes sense.

  100. Good write Ian!
Tottenham game was one in a row that showed how undisiplided our squard is. Lambert doesnot have any respect left, or is there have been any……you do not act like this if you are doing it for you manager.

  101. FFS Steamer that bottle of cider you gave me earlier is fucking cherry flavour l hate cherry flavours anything , lv now got to get a new tv for the kitchen , l took a mouthful and spat it out and the telly blew-up plus lv got to paint the kitchen wall and ceiling before they get back sunday , phuk phuk phuk ,

  102. I was expecting some loyalty from Delph considering how shit he was for about 3 yrs and how the club/manager stuck with him/stood by him. THEN AGAIN… we have a crap manager signed up for 4 yrs and there doesn’t seem to be cash available for bringing in quality to help him challenge for honors so why should he stay. Plus everyone knows he’s in his prime now and has a history of injuries so he needs to cash in on what could be a short career and do what he can to secure an English place. Some might say he has a better chance of doing that with more playing time at the Villa others would say he will get more exposure at a top 6 club. Unexpected NO, Disappointing of course… Sigh, it’s not easy being a Villan.

  103. Ronnie,
In the close season he was begging for a contract, Villa didn’t get him signed, instead they give Lambert another four years and also the totally abysmal Crappy a four year sentence, mis-management of the highest level by the same morons that gave a 36 yo injury prone keeper a five year deal at 70-80 grand a week, unbelievable isn’t it ?

  104. Evening all.
This is why we may see change before Christmas. http://www.soccerstats.com/attendance.asp?league=england
The figures for our gate compared with all the other clubs in the Premier League are shocking .
We are bottom (no surprise there then) but at an average of 76% when all the other clubs bar Burnley (86%) are well into the 90s. This reflects the mood of the villa fans and they are voting with their feet. Even the Man City game we only got a measly 32,000 The Spurs gate was a new record low for a Spurs game.
Also, the media are now onto it. Up until now they have been broadcasting in support of PL (young team, transition bla bla) (the dailys rather than the local press) but they seem to finally be catching on . Apart from Brian Moore’s incorrect “well Villa have a young team don’t they” on TS this evening, his co pundit (can’t remember who it was now) said “but they aren’t improving……. third season and there is no improvement ….” Halleluja – they’ve finally clicked that no we don’t have a young team – most of those have been shown the exit door – and no there has been zero improvement. They even had two villa fans on who gave an honest assessment of our current situation ie dire and unacceptable. Both Dwight Yorke and Ian Taylor said in the week that questions need to be asked of the Manager. TS also re-iterated what I said after the game – that Paul Lambert and Roy Keane sit staring ahead not speaking to each other. Are they experts in non verbal communication or what ? When Benteke was sent off – neither of them had a plan how to ensure we kept the lead, there was no discussion just the usual staring into space. This can’t be inspiring for the players – and it worries the hell out of the fans who are seeing their club being washed down the drain.
I think you may have been a little harsh on Sanchez Ian. He has made some bad mistakes – but if you look when these come in the game – I think it is towards the end. It looks to me like he only has the energy for about 50 mins. In the Spurs games he looked so shattered at the end that he was literally dragging on the Spurs players shirts as his legs just couldn’t go any more. If he plays on Saturday I would hope he gest subbed before he runs on empty and starts making errors.
Well done to WarringtonTown – great to see the desire and passion from these smaller clubs.

  105. Also, when will Benteke be off. He looked miserable in the warm up, coming out the tunnel and during the game before the sending off. As a caller said on TS tonight, it looks like he can’t wait to get away. All this is so depressing for the rest of the squad with the best players looking for the emergency exit door.

  106. hope lambert or learner doesn’t see that table he will think we are doing ok we are mid table 😉
to be honest jen I am so fed up with keane, Lambert we know is fairly useless and I had my doubts about Keane but gutless? I never thought he would be that.
its shocking how many pundits make a living but rarley know f**k all about anything outside the top six. lazy journos are rife in footy

  107. Let’s see how the gutless shower do today. Can they make it 7 in a row ?

We all know the Berk will set up for a 0-0 but take a low scoring defeat. I pray today is his last game for us in charge. I expect the same old, no shots on target. Hope the away fans destroy him

Anyway, of to Southampton for the day. Have a good day all

  108. Jenny: Well done to WarringtonTown – great to see the desire and passion from these smaller clubs.

Agreed! I actually saw some of the replay late last night and was totally impressed with the fact that they played *pure* football – no argie-bargies, no tripping or heel-tapping, no mayhem in the goalmouth when corners were taken.

In short – they played football! And on a rough pitch, too.

Maybe we should start supporting these small clubs – it’s far better value.

  109. Clive

That was nice of you to free those birds and the fish.
That was a grand game of league. The English will be down, but I’d pick them to start winning regularly next year. It’s a good side.
Should be a cracker against the ABs later.
Not expecting a result against Spam 2-0. Yes Frem, they can, probably 8. We can only hope & pray for better things.
    JL
You’re not the first one to say something like “Maybe we should start supporting these small clubs – it’s far better value”. That might be a good idea. It’s just as entertaining and a lot cheaper.

  110. John,

Yes, a real game last night, players giving their all for the team. A real David and Goliath match with the Warrington Town players giving everything they had for each other.
A far cry from the Premiership, with players walking around looking completely uninterested in showing any kind of effort, and rolling around as if pole axed when anyone gets within spitting distance.
I know of more and more fans preferring to watch local non league football because of the passion shown by the players who represent their various clubs.
As I said, a far, far cry from the pampered professional players, who, in most cases, only have one passion, money.

  111. It’s crazy, isn’t it, we got all-fired up by the revival of Villa in the 1970-1982 period with the likes of Little, Cowans, Shaw and Withe to delight over. Then we were given a further taste of what might be with Deano and Yorke … and even Merson.

    Then what happened?!!

  112. When Herbie slimed his way back i decided to watch & play non-league on a Saturday, i loved it, Bromsgrove, Worcester, Kiddy, Telford, RC Warwick and others, no pressure, just STAND and enjoy it. Can’t wait to watch Blose in the non – lge.
