Last weekend’s draw was the first time in four games that West Ham have failed to come away with all three points, seeing them slip one place into fifth. Only Newcastle and league leaders Chelsea can boast equal form to that of the Hammers over the last four games, and they will be looking for a fourth successive home win to take their points tally to 20 after just 11 games.

Only the top three teams in the Premier League, as it stands, can boast a better goal scoring record than West Ham this season, which is partially down to new signings Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho. The latter will return from injury this weekend and will be a massive boost to the Irons, as illustrated by the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index. The Senegalese striker has bagged five goals already, averaging a goal every 111.6 minutes. What is more impressive is that 71.4% of his shots on target have ended up in the net. He is 23/20 to score anytime with 888sport.com.

Another goal threat comes in the form of winger Stewart Downing, whose impressive performances of late have seen boss Sam Allardyce state that Downing should be in the frame for an England call-up. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index illustrates the extent of Downing’s form, with two goals and four assists to his name. He has completed more than twice the amount of crosses that any other West Ham player has, with 15 in total and has covered 104.25km of ground so far this campaign. Combining these facets with having been clocked at a top speed of 35.05km/h, he will be a threat for the full 90 minutes.

Whilst rumors circulate in the public eye around Winston Reid, the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index can clearly show what a valuable asset he has been to the Hammers. He has played a vital role for the East Londoners so far this term, winning a staggering 92.3% of his tackles. The New Zealand international has also racked up an impressive 91 clearances and 14 interceptions, whilst proving he is equally adept on the ball by completing 82.76% of his passes and getting himself on the score sheet for good measure.

Aston Villa are looking to end their run of poor form this weekend with their first win in seven games. Last weekend’s defeat to Tottenham saw the Villans net their first goal in six games, where they led until going down to ten men and were eventually beaten by an injury time deflected free kick. This should give Villa cause to be optimistic, and hopefully that can restore the good form that saw them sit in second place after four games.

One man who will be happy after last weekend is Andreas Weimann, who returned to goal scoring form with the opening goal of the game. The EA SPORTS Player Performance Index reveals that the Villa front man has bagged three goals so far this term, netting 75% of his shots on target. He is also not afraid to work hard for the side, winning 70.58% of his tackles and completing a squad best 573 sprints. He is 17/5 to score anytime with 888sport.com.

In the middle of the park, Villa will be hoping that Ashley Westwood will be able to get a stranglehold in the game, by overcoming his West Ham counterparts. The 24 year old English central midfielder has won 66.6% of his tackles, making 20 clearances and 10 interceptions already this campaign. He has covered more ground than any other Villa squad member, with 104.4km, and will be looking to use his energy at both ends of the pitch to help deliver three points for the Villa faithful.

The key to Villa’s early season success was a solid defence, which saw them concede just one goal in four games in comparison to the 15 that they have shipped in their last six games. Villa’s Dutch international Ron Vlaar will be crucial to this, as illustrated by the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index. The World Cup semi finalist has won 100% of his tackles so far this season, made 30 clearances, six interceptions and five blocks.

  1. Can anyone genuinely put their hand on their heart and predict a Villa win even a draw I certainly can’t the form book will be true today with another Villa defeat.

I asked the question yesterday about what three teams people think will go down this season and it still stands my three are Burnley Villa Liecester.
    AVFC RIP

  2. I fully expect a comfortable 2 nil for the Londoners. Why?Well we create next to nothing, can`t conert set plays and we crumble once we concede.
We are not unlucky.Bad luck is when the opposition goalie is outstanding,we are hitting the woodwork, and the ball is cleared off the line frequently.Villa are simply and atrocious team, managed by a manger who has no idea how to stop the slump, overseen by an owner who rewards failure. We are going down, the evidence for such a prediction could fill a phone book or two.We are all aware of the negative unwanted records being set by Lambert. There is no plan,no strategy,no improvement or development. The damage being done will take decades to recover from,if we ever do.Have a good weekend all,I shall by avoiding an viewing of a sport that I am starting to despise.I won`t even follow the game,I`ll just check in on AVL later to see the score.I get the feeling the second part will be Aston Villa nil.

  3. At this stage I have lost the will to worry – isn’t it odd that I no longer support English clubs in European competitions as matter of national pride and just want them to win so they get kn###ed before we have to play them. Not that it will do any good!
I think Burnley, Villa and Sunderland for the drop.

  4. John & Trin,
By the time Lerner & Lambert have finished with us we will be a small club.

When Herbie slimed his way back i decided to watch & play non-league on a Saturday, i loved it, Bromsgrove, Worcester, Kiddy, Telford, RC Warwick and others, no pressure, just STAND and enjoy it. Can’t wait to watch Blose in the non – lge.

  5. Walking the mutt this morning an bumped into an old pal of SWV on his way darn sarf, i told him he was aiding and abetting in the murder of AVFC, he replied that it was in his heart. What do you say to that ?
Lerner and Lambert are the complete opposite, as long as they get a cheque then they’re happy even if it destroys 140 years of history.

  6. WHU 3-0 Villa
As Beasil states, we aren’t unlucky , we are atrocious, and the tactics we employ are deplorable, the scum in power at Villa Park are literally a cancer eating away at our club, it’s dying in front of our very eyes, the hate I feel for Lerner and Lambert knows no bounds for what they have done to AVFC. Their lack of dignity is particularly poignant on remembrance weekend, another piece of shit is James McLean who is now thieving wages from Wigan athletic, once AGAIN he reused to wear a poppy on his shirt, he needs putting down like a rabid dog

  7. Thanks for that B62 . needed a good laff .. Beasil !!!!!! hope theres nothing for him to kick nearby .

wm saying villa have gone in so many words , mind l think the ejit frnksy needs his head looking into , thinking if gabby can sort himself out we could win , these funking radio idiots really do come out with some shite sometimes ,

also l did say we could meet up and go and watch some non-league instead this season, the game last night was what it is all about , l lost real interest in the premiership about fuck knows how many years ago l used to give my ST to anyone and stay in the club , we could pick a team where a AVL blogger lives , Runtins, Jenny, Frem we could go to oxford and tell mark were going manchester )) same with sww , just a thought for the new year , really fancy the Runtins one as we could go to a jazz club after )

is this rain going to stop ???

B62 well said about Mcshit and the poppy ,

Have a good weekend if you can all

  8. Agree 3-0. Must be the best job in football, lose every week and get another four years, and they say its a hard life. Lerner must be peeing himself laughing at the lack of dissent amongst our half a crowd, he’s getting away with it. Every year he’s going to collect 75m and generously put back c10m.

  9. 0-0
At least they proved us wrong, this time. Now it’s a bit better, they haven’t won in 7 games. Sounds better than they’ve lost 7.
Guzan did his job today. We were a bit lucky.

  10. Clive/Mark

A double over England for NZ today. Nothing much in it, though, a bit of luck one way or the other and the results could ‘ve been reversed.

  11. Only a tiny bit of luck, Trin. Any team relying on a Carroll to bring on as the last hope is obviously deficient in other areas. But, boy, it would be nice to have a fit Carroll at Villa!

Today – as a team, and after the first 30 minutes – Villa put something together that was not bad.

But where or where is the scoring going to come from?

  12. Thank fuck for that. I couldn’t watch, had trouble looking up the score. What is really amazing is even with the unending shower of shite they aren’t that far off. Mind you that shower covers a lot of Prem clubs at the moment. If it was international week, and Benteke qualified to play for Belgium, would that game(s) count against his red card?

  13. JL

Yeah,it would be nice to have a fit Carrol. Didn’t we have a chance to get him on loan about 18 months ago? He is a threat in front of goal, should have scored today.
Well, it’s time to watch the SAFAS and the Irish, hope the Irish can raise their game.

  14. I have never been a fan of lambert and we could do much better with these players and a better manager but based on the last 3 games we’re a reasonable bet for a mid table finish.
In the last three games we have played some reasonable football and on other days could easily have picked up more points. We didn’t, but in other games we will get points where we don’t really deserve them (I hope)

  15. B62 & S75 ,
Lads , those comments on McLean are bang out of order . His family live in a nationalist area of derry and he has every right to refuse to wear a symbol of anything he does’nt want to. I think its foolish for him to draw heat on himself but maybe he has a reason and anyway its a free society we live in so he does’nt have to explain himself. I would also refuse to wear a poppy but i have often given to the charity behind the poppy and my family have served in the british army in both wars . I also refuse to wear any irish nationalistic symbols and i dont wear jerseys of any kind except when i’m playing a sport. Remembrance day is a special day for british people but not everyone feels it necessary to manifest their support for the veternans charity. If you want to wear poppies well then go ahead , but stop talking like the fucking taliban , ” he needs putting down like a rabid dog” ,,,,,grow up mate ffs.

  16. robbo ,
watch out mate , you’re going to be slaughtered for suggesting anything other than the public execution of paul lambert in the bull ring.
I would’nt go to some of the extremes on here but i do think lambert is a busted flush and the sooner he goes the better.

  17. Prox
McLean has form for being pro IRA and every year he does this, iv got no time for him and his ilk, he disrespects many who have fought in the many wars remembered, that come from his part of the world. Yet he is happy to take Wigans money every week but basically spit on the memory of many who lost their lives from Wigan in so many wars and conflicts.

  18. trinity- a good game but a lesson in finishing in the union, considering we had 8 injured I thought some of the new lads looked good and mays try was special. I’m not sure we will mature enough to win the world cup but we will be thereabouts, something to look forward to at least.
on the villa I kept an eye on the game on my Ipad and although we were under the cosh sometimes, especially corners it was quite an open game and a shame gabby can’t finish. gave me some hope that maybe theres a team in there and at least they showed some bottle. can’t see Lambert going unless its really bad by xmas at the earliest, sad but true. glad we drew though as all the pundits had it as nailed on, don’t like it when they predict villa to lose even when they are right 🙂

on poppies wear one if you like or don’t simple

prox – a poppy on a flag would be apt for the taliban 😉 hows the cat campaign going?

  19. B62 ,
IF he’s pro IRA then he’s a despicable wanker , but the majority of nationalists are not pro ira and if you have solid data to prove that he is then fair enough on that point however if declaring for the republic and refusing to wear the poppy is all you have then its not enough to say that he disrespects the war dead of wigan or anywhere else. I personally am not a nationalist and i have little patience for anyone who is ,regardless of what flag they’re loyal to because its as irrational as fundamentalist religion .
Now you and i have skirmished on this kind of thing before and i respect your strong sense of Englishness and pride in your countrys heroic deed’s particularly in WW2 but the thing that britain stood up for is the very thing you’re attacking mclean for , free choice . Britain was one of the first nations to outlaw slavery but you are now advocating a mandatory form of expression for all of britains current inhabitants , he may be a dick head or not , i dont know enough about him to judge but suggesting someone be put down for his beliefs is going too far and thats why i called you out on this one.

  20. Well 1 point from 21,whooopeeeedooooo,give him a further 9 year contract extension,do it tonight Mr Fox,before another club comes in for him.1 goal said 7 matches, tremendous Lambert, just superb.

  21. 0-0 the wort possible result. A dire performance from us yet again by the sounds of things. We would have been better of losing and getting the Berk sacked. 0-0 will keep him in the job for another few weeks. Maybe The Saints and Burnley will finish him of. Actually gutted with a 0-0. Does nothing for us

  22. Hey Mark ,
campaigns not going as well as I would have hoped , seems a lot of people like cats and they refuse to ‘put them down’ on the word of well intentioned public health advocates like myself. B62 has agreed to help me establish a link between cats and radical islam or maybe extremist irish republicanism so we can do for em that way . I dont see any cats wearing poppies , therefore they must also hate britain , good enough for me .

  23. Frem: A dire performance from us yet again by the sounds of things.

No, after the first 30 minutes it wasn’t at all bad. As someone said, it’s a pity Gabby can’t finish … he could have had one or even two today. But that is the problem still … I can’t see where the goals are going to come from.

  24. My sentiments entirely Frem . Never mind – Paul Lambert has said he is happy with a point and a nil nil draw .

Our mentality is not to lose rather than try and win . The only sub he made was Clark for Zog – at 0-0 sums up our ambition . I’m so glad I didn’t waste my time watching it – but heard it on the radio whilst travelling .

Weimann gets another yellow card for mouthing off – well the totting up may be the only way to get him off the team sheet !

  25. John- I’ll have to watch Footy first later and see but going by twitter, we were pretty crap. One chap said we could have been 5 or 6 down by half time. When your keeper saves you, you know you haven’t played well

On Gabby, he’s one god awful football player. He’s already scored his one goal a season

Jenny- it’s sad time. Lamberk thinking a 0-0 away from home is an epic result. That’s how far down he has taken us. And you are spot on, he plays not to lose. I hopefully The Saints will do us, Burnley will beat us for sure

I hate and I Wiemann. His celebration last season against Hull bought that on. He’s over weight big headed little fucker anyway.

  26. Frem

You said Lambert plays not to lose, well the evidence suggests to me ,he`s no bloody good at it.Never mind a one match inbeaten run.only 4 more years of this, what a prospect.

  27. I really can’t understand the mentality of people who want their team to lose, irrespective of the circumstances. Unlike some on here, I’ve never been a fan of Lambert, but I just couldn’t ever want to see villa lose. . . . I just couldn’t.
It’s time for some to give themselves a break, fuck off and support someone else.

  28. am i wrong
is football not about trying to win football matches
how many saves have other keepers made
none today spurs none qpr none everton none man city chelsea aresnal none pool none gabby shot only one on target
we play westwood cleverly delph sanchez as a mid 3 12 matches not working
gabby wiemen have 24 matches with 5 goals and no shots on target
guzan made his first goal stopping save today in the last 18 months
put clark on to defend a nil all
wiemen has been booked for serious dissent last 3 matches lucky not to walk he left on
zog only one that looks like he wants ball keeps getting subbed man city spurs best player both days going forwad
cole why waste 2m when you are tight budget
bent thats about 10 m wages since lamberts here if gabby wiemen better lambert needs brain scan
grealish signs new contract drops him he is 19 unreal the one talent we might have
    where do i stop

  29. James,I share you frustration, but I an virtually numb,as I observe our once great club being dismantled.
In isolation, this was a good point,on the road at an in form team. However in the context of one point, from 21 available ,it is hardly inspiring.
Playing so as not to lose ,is all well and good if you have the type of players .organisation and set up to achieve this. However when we go one down we are in Sheisse Strasse and collapse.Hurrah ,this didn`t occur today.
Grealish, well,I can`t get me nut around that one, sign on for 4 years, yet he didn`t make the bench today. He could be a game changer, but how do we know,if he isn`t played????????????????

  30. we need a wipeout off all coaches start again the premier league you need special players to play any system other than 442 a good coach could get a lot more out of the squad
    guzan
    lowton/hutton
    sendross
    vlar/baker
    ciisko
    zog
    sanchez
    westwood/cleverly
    grealish/bacuna
    benteke/bent
    wiemen/gabby

somebody has to change to get 1 point out 21 and not change players is unbelieveable
sanchez has made a few mistakes but looks promising remember lambert in the matches he expected to lose didnt even give him 20 mins okore has disappeared why lambert has signed cole 11 matches not 30 mins football gabby and wiemen dont work like clark and baker what is fox doing or is he another ass licker

  31. James- Football is about winning, but we have a manager who doesn’t try to win games. He needs to leave this football club

People are comparing Lamberk to Mcliesh. I regard Lamberk as worse that Mcliesh. WH both set up not lose, but they still lost

the Berk has a 50% defeat ratio!!!

  32. Prox
l will tell you why l hate the ira and anyone who has sympathy for them , on the night of the pub bombings in Birmingham l and 4 other friends was about 5 mins from joining a girlfriend who got her body burned by the phosphorus and a real good mate who died in the blast , and as for the poppy fair enough you dont want to wear one but l lost 3 in afghanistan mates and one was a 18 yro who went over there as he thought he was doing good for the women and children

l started this post at about 7 pm lv just got in and piseed so l will stop now

and if l ever meet you l will tell you how l was arrested in the kenneth littlejonh case . in1973

  33. christ almighty, we were getting battered in the last ten ( including extra time) and we introduce clarke! thats the first decent sub Lambert has made! we needed a point! i’m glad we took it . who exactly did we have on the bench that was going to get us a win?
is there some written law that every team must lay down for us? we actually tried to win and so did wet spam and it was a draw end of. we all want super manager to come in but for fuck sake we are at the shit end of the stick. football is about trying to get a result! a result is not zero points .
the actual shots on goal was villa 4 vs 5 for wh all saved what a surprise, and we actually had 12 shots vs there 21

  34. Frem and Jenny

Neither of you apparently saw the match yesterday, but I understand your scepticism.

Yes, West Ham had a purple patch in the first 30 minutes, and Guzan had to pull of ONE save in that time – a fine one from Downing.

But – equally – Gabby should have scored (or at least had his shot on target) earlier on.

For 50 minutes after the first 30, Villa played as well as the Hammers, if not better. It’s only when they brought on Carlton Cole and then Carroll that Villa saw more danger – and it was a wise decision to bring on Clark against that double threat. Guzan again had to make a fine save (from Carroll).

So, lads and lassies, let’s not talk down Villa’s performance yesterday. The only luck that Villa got from the game was that a couple of penalties might have been given against them, but otherwise they didn’t play badly at all.

The drawback yesterday was simply that Villa did not offer enough threat on West Ham’s goal. Gabby’s wayward shot and a very close one by Cleverley were the only attempts of note.

So, that remains the big worry. And against Southampton we are back to worrying that Villa will lose again, particularly as it’s at home.

  35. Sorry, Weimann also had a one blistering shot on goal after Zoggy’s good close work – but it went straight at the keeper, and then Westwood volleyed over from distance from the eventual re-bound.

So Villa did have 3 or 4 decent attempts on goal, but there were no goal ‘poaching’ chances at all. No one got round the back to make a difference.

I repeat – the overall team play yesterday could not be faulted too much, though you felt that Gabby and Zoggy were a bit short. It’s the lack of goals that’s the main problem … and we need to win at least some matches. Don’t we?

  36. S75 ,
I’ve no problem with anyone hating the ira and you clearly have a very good reason for this but my issue was singling out a player because he would’nt wear a poppy and suggesting he be put down because of assumptions made on his refusal alone, i know we all meander on different topics on this blog but I felt that commentary was a step too far.
I’d be fascinated to hear your littlejohn story and though I do plan to link up with a few people on here when i’m next over for a match , should you ever be inclined to transferring your experience to text and pm ing to me , your effort would be appreciated as my curiosity is well and truly stoked and i am a bit of a modern history nerd.

  37. Steamer ,
A good movie opening this week about the guy who broke the enigma code . I’ll be popping into the cinema after work next week to catch it. Sounds like its down your street.

  38. john l
to put on clark to hold out was madness the last attack from west ham he could of gave away 2pens jumping with hos hand up and tackling song clear pen baker tackle was a stone wall pen as well
wiemen straight at keeper no harder than backpass we dont make keepers work and that was worst result possible yesterday you lose 6 in a row keep same team subs at same time lambert never learns
    lambert keane out before southampton

  39. JL i had the “pleasure” of watching the game yesterday (from Mauritius at 2am in the morning!) and wham were far the better side first half aside from the last 5-10 mins when Villa competed without creating nothing. Second half poor from both sides (the rain being the main contributing factor imo). The last 10 mins was all wham tho. We created nothing in the 2nd half. we were totally clueless. It was simply backs to the wall defending. Can’t agree that its simply a case of finding the net. We create next to nothing which is not surprising when sissoko is meant to be providing the width and pace???? downing produced over 5 delicious crosses in the dying minutes when he was moved wide. Why can’t the useless tool lambert realise that we need width, pace and skill on the wings?

  40. One further point-yesterday’s result had nothing to do with the team, players or even less the manager. The longer a poor run continues, the likelier fortunes will change in the following match. This was simply a case of villa bucking a shocking run due purely to probability.

  41. prox- my brother once owned a Manor House in Devon that had some connection to that, Churchill used it as one of his planning offices.
I have a question for you. I’ve heard things along the lines that ww1 was started over Germany trying to break the so called free market trade that Britain and the usa had the monopoly on?

  42. Dee: Can’t agree that its simply a case of finding the net. We create next to nothing …

I quite agree with pretty well all you said … particularly the above. I disagree that we didn’t create anything in the second half … (1) there was Cleverley’s fairly good attempt and (2) Zoggy’s attempt, both of which should have at least tested the keeper.

When I say “lack of goals” I mean (as I have been saying for a long time) that our creativity is precious little.

  43. does any one have stats on lamberts 87 games how many times we have failed to score or benteke only scorer how many times when we concede we do again within 5 /10mins

  44. dee- you can’t think surely that those involved in a match had no part in its outcome otherwise we could put eleven cardboard cutouts out and the results would be the same. in which case there is just as much probability we will win or draw the next 6, we all know we wont.
I know people are frustrated with lambert still being here I am to, but lets not go overboard

  45. Mark,
Hmmm another conspiracy theory eh? Your life is just one endless enid blyton adventure aint it ?
WW1 was certainly caused by a power struggle from my understanding and it had many contributary factors but its chief one in my mind was incredibly rich , powerful and out of touch men having a cock measuring competition with the lives of millions of ordinary men. But it was going to happen at some stage and maybe it served the purpose of waking the world up and changing the old ways.

  46. Mark ,
The event that got usa in ww1 was the sinking of the lusitania off the coast of cork but conspiracy theorists argue that vessel was equipped with secret guns and ramming equipment to attack unsuspecting uboats which had surfaced to intercept liners . Question is why would they intercept them if not too sink them ? I dunno . All i will say that i dont believe any nation that conducts war has clean hands and if they do they probably lost that war.

  47. A lion in West Midlands Safari Park is lying in the sun licking its arse.
A visitor turns to the keeper and says ” thats a lazy thing is’nt it ”
“No” replies the keeper “thats the most nasty animal in the whole of the park, just an hour ago it dragged a bluenose out of his car and completely devoured him”
“hardly seems possible ” says the astonished visitor , “why is it now lying there licking its arse ?”
“The poor thing is trying to get the fucking nasty taste out of its mouth” ………………))

  48. prox- the assassination of ferdinand is given as the spark for ww1 i believe. the real reason I’m afraid is a lot more based in economics. its rumoured the lusitania was a ploy to outrage the american public and get them into the war. the germans put a full page advertisement in the papers telling people not to sail on that ship as it was coming through an exclusion zone. we have always been taught that we are the good guys but the waters are a whole lot murkier than that. the industrial-military complex is a huge contributor to world unrest plenty of profit in a good war. the sad thing is the reasons are troops are given to risk their lives for are not always the real reasons. the Iraq war being a prime example, evil saddam who wouldn’t play ball with the oil companies and was threatening to trade oil in euro’s. yes he was a nasty piece of work but he like many other world leaders are there because they suited some purpose at the time.

  49. Mark,
Yer correct, GB could have stopped WW11 too if they’d agreed to the suggestion by USSR to form a coalition with France. Halifax, Chamberlain and especially the warmonger Churchill hated the thought that the Bolsheviks could take a lead.

  50. Don’t mention cardboard cut outs, think of the wages saved.

    Jen,
Wot about Worcester, shows what can be done if you have a bit of pride and guts, well done to them.

  51. Prox,
Churchill organised that sinking, the papers have conveniently disappeared, he wanted the USA in the war at any cost and had the Lusitania diverted to an area where UBoats were aplenty.
The World obviously hasn’t learned judging by the number of pointless wars most of which have been engineered by a rogue state.

  52. Steamer & Mark ,
You two are brilliant , cant fucking wait to spend a few hours with you shooting the shit on history , and your particular twist on it.
Someone in another post spoke of the futility the common soldiers death in ww 1 and the officers incompetence and there was a reference on ‘peaky blinders ‘ the other night to a particularly nasty officer who served in cork during the war of independence. Well , I recently read that the commander of the british forces in cork at the time was a major e percival of the essex regiment who had 12500 men (between all units) in cork and was being given the runaround by no more than 310 armed flying column men who gave the impression that their number was greater and who made towns like bandon no go area for the military eventhough it was a garrison town. This same man handed singapore to the japanese in 1941 pretty much without a shot being fired. I shudder to think of how many young men were lost in all conflicts where this man and his ilk had a major say in their fate.
