It has emerged this evening that Ron Vlaar has agreed personal terms with the club with the official site confirming the deal.

In a brief official statement, the club stated:

Aston Villa have agreed personal terms with Dutch international defender Ron Vlaar and, subject to medical clearance, a deal will be concluded with Eredivisie runners-up Feyenoord next week.

The 27-year-old centre half will undergo a medical next week in Birmingham before a potential three-year deal can be formalised.

The pursuit of Vlaar has been something of a rollercoaster with the defender stating his claim of signing for Aston Villa early in the summer with some fans showing concern when the club embarked on their US tour with a lack of movement.

Vlaar, a player who has played nine times for his country since his debut in 2005 is, by logical accounts, only a fringe players for the Dutch national team.

The player has also managed 132 appearances for Feyenoord over the past six year which only works out at 22 games a season. The concern for fans should be around injuries, although the signings of Martin Laursen and Paul McGrath did manage to pay off after both being considered ready for the scrap heap.

However, the important thing is what fans think – so what do you make of it? Excited?
