Reports are coming out of Portugal that Aston Villa are looking to agree a deal for the former Sporting Lisbon striker Yannick Djalo in the January transfer window.

Details are sketchy at present, but following a botched transfer that has left Djalo in limbo between clubs after FIFA ruled his transfer to Nice on August 31st was void due to paperwork being filed after midnight, it is possible that Djalo could be on the move again having failed to play a single minute of football for the Ligue 1 team.

I have known about Djalo at Sporting Lisbon where he used to play with former Everton target Joao Moutinho, and a player Villa were briefly linked with years ago, Miguel Veloso. Djalo can play both up front and on the wing, meaning he may provide added width for Villa, but has only played 98 games in 6 years at Sporting. His goal rate is 1 in 3, although the Portuguese league is not usually a fair indicator to translate directly to England in terms of goals to games.

At 25, Djalo is at the right kind of age for a purchase by the club, and his ability to operate on the wing may provide a good way of developing some width at the club.

Will it come off though? As mentioned previously, details are sketchy but, if it is true, then Villa may well be starting to spend again come January.

Below is a video of one of Djalo’s goals against Manchester City. Is he good enough?
