Paul Lambert has been confirmed as the new Aston Villa manager after the club successfully negotiated a compensation package for the former Norwich City manager.

It is understood that a £1m compensation has been sufficient to land the Scottish manager, and that his arrival signals the start of a new era in terms of the club. Villa look to be willing to invest money to progress the team after previously wanting Alex McLeish to sell-to-buy, although AVL understands that a £25m budget has been earmarked with any extra money needing to be raised from sales.

Lambert is likely to turn his focus to capturing former striker Grant Holt with a £3m bid likely to prompt a move.
