remi

The rest of the country may have given up on us, but the fans believe we can stay up. That’s what Remi Garde seems to think. And for the most part he may be right. But it’s going to take one hell of a battle.
It’s a close your eyes and hope for the best scenario. But for Remi Garde, he’ll have to be a little more inventive. At the moment we can’t score and are conceding almost two a game, with the 4-0 defeat to Everton causing real concern.
The main problem is Benteke simply hasn’t been replaced. We need someone who can put the ball in the back of the net, and quick.
Being a Villa fan at the moment is meaning we’re having to simply head into fantasy land as right now the reality of the Championship is looming large. What if we could be champions of Europe again? Have a player like Withe or Tony Morley in the team again? Or in modern day a 30+ goals per season star like Aguero, Neymar, or what the hell, Messi!
Of course, we’re never going to see those in a Villa shirt, but it doesn’t stop us admiring them, after all they beat Gabby and Jordan Ayew who has yet to really shine in the claret and blue. Plus, it takes the mind off our on-field woes.
We’d love to see the ultimate footballer at Villa Park, but the question is, whose attributes would you include in that? The pace of Bale maybe with the power of Ronaldo?
Game Face, a fun face mash up from Coral allows you to see how your ultimate freaky footballer would look. Using eight of the world’s greatest players of today you can merge the facial features to create a star man, a man who would score more goals than Villa’s complete season tally. A man with the vision of Pirlo and the grace of Neymar. Perhaps one with the ravenous teeth of Suarez too.

ronessnallo

We’d certainly like to see this man leading the line for us. A man combining the talents of Ronaldo, Messi, and Pirlo, or perhaps a Ba-Irl-eyma-ney, we really could go on. It’ll certainly take your mind off our woes anyway.
There’s just one more thing to do, sign him up Remi!

  1. Matt – I think it’s less of close your eyes and hope for the best as sit back and wait for the January window. As you say, we need a striker who will gel with the players we have now. With Gil we have our own Iniesta and we now need a player with the vision of Messi or Neymar to make the runs.

The left back position is also a problem and Sinclair is not a left back.

I was pleased to see Garde put Grealish in his place – he has to chose between being a playboy or a player.

I reckon we can get 3 points this weekend if the players close up on Watford and prevent them playing their game; they will think they are coming for a certain win and we have to prove them wrong.

  2. To be honest the players linked with us today spell out ‘more of the same’ They’re certainly not going to keep us up and indicate that Lerner is still not prepared to pay the going rate.

  3. I admire your optimism Clive because I struggle to see Villa winning a game in the near future, we have a set of players who are not fit for purpose although I think the manager could be the real deal, and I do quite like Remy so it was with a twinge of sadness when I was scrubbing Sherwoods name from my banner to read GARDE OUT.

The club is a shambles from top to bottom and only the good lord can save us although in turning water into wine he used up the last of his miracles, the Bristol City lads down here are salivating at the thought of not only a visit to VP but the visit of the mighty Villa to a very different looking Ashton Gate, the stadium down here is going through a major re-furb due to be ready next season, with two new stands and work on the other two to bring capacity up to 27K.

I suppose I had better start saving up my pennies for the visit of the Steamers the tight load of bastards.

    GSAVFC

  4. So Villa need a local connection, i’d suggest John Gregory, by British standards a top coach with personality and the ability to motivate. Strange how its only taken them 10 years to figure it out.

  5. SWV,
Brizzle had better concentrate on staying in the Championship never mind playing Villa. I remember Steve Cotterill playing for Alvechurch …. crepe.

  6. Steamer,

How very dare you I gave that £20 to ST75 to give you last time I came up think he might have donated it to Roscoes pie fund.

Cotterill is a leg end down here purely on what he did last season, I remember playing against Sean O”Driscoll when he played for the Church, think Ronnie was in goal then but my memory is a bit fuzzy.

    GSAVFC

  7. Does Roscoe still do the distraction trick when your in the cafe ….Roscoe, pointing out the window,”look at that, he just been hit by car” you look out the window, look at your plate, half your breakfast is now in Roscoes trap. Must have fell for that half a dozen times back in the 70’s

  8. I think he will spend. I don’t think RG would have agreed to come to the club unless there was funding.
Of course the problem is, who can we attract who will put the ball in the net to start with and someone who can provide the midfield experience we lack. Everyone wants that including Chelsea who are courting Jamie Vardy, that’ll distract him.

  9. Agree, but as Archie says, who will come to this madhouse ? More French i think, just because they trust Garde, oh and the money. Its not that long ago that we supplied half the Engurland squad now we couldn’t attract anyone near it. Possibly we can get a few Arsenal reserves on loan, stabilise the club so it looks half decent and then attract a few in the close season, assuming we stay up.

  10. Im in limbo, i dont get angry, im not excited, i dont feel anything anymore.

I just want learner gone, get relegation out the way and then i can get motivated again. this is just a slow death at the mo. Fully behind remi though, seems a very calm sensible chap. i like him. Allthough that may change if he plays richardson again tomoz!!

Wonder how richards statement went down in the dressing room, that was some rant, keano standard! Needed though

  11. Sad state of affairs Clive, with Villa at home that we have to look to close out Watford. Wouldn’t it be great if Watford had to worry about us and how we’ll play. It feckin Watford, a nothing team.

Said it a few times, Lerner needs to gamble on us surviving and the windfall money it would bring by spending big in January, don’t care if they are mercenary as long as we stay up.

Even other blogs are trying to dress relegation as something Villa needs to start again but you can guarantee we’d be stuck with Lerner longer as the price for Villa would have to drop.

There are plenty of points to play for we just need to get a few wins or draws on the board to keep us in touching distance of our relegation rivals and pull out all the stops in Jan. We have the right man in charge at a football level, he needs to be backed.

    VTID

  12. Micah saying the players don’t give a shit basically. We need to get to jan and have another huge overhaul

I fear for us tomorrow. Can only see another defeat.

I was disappointed in Garde how he set us up last week, and worried about the players he picked and there roles. You don’t play Gil and Grealish and ask them to track back. You want defensive talentless footballers on the wings then play Sinclair and Gabby

I will be so annoyed if we play another flat 5 in midfield tomoz. Play Adama and Gil and aye and Kozak up top, Sanchez and Garder in midfield.

    ——-Bunn——

    Bacuna–Micah–Okore—Hutton

    Adama—–Gardner—Sanchez—Gil

    ———–Ayew—–Kozak—–

    Or Zoggy in for Kozak

    Attack FFS

  13. Darren,
Everyone said that in 1968, it doesn’t work like that, even Soton, Leeds, Sheff Utd, Sheff Wed, Forest, Wolves etc went to Div 3 and if Lerner stays then thats what we’ll do. like Andrew i just want him and Fox gone, they’re toxic and cracked me a few months ago.
I think Traore will play on Sat, worrying about the defence though, they even conceded two vs Fleetwood reserves.

  14. Gardner, Aggy injured Okore fit. Sendeross has number 23 but not mentioned, VP is like the KGB for secrecy.
Have a feeling thar Jordan Lyden will participate at sometime, he’s got a few goals from MF this season.
    Bunn:
    Hutton, Okore, Richards, Clark:
    Veretout, Sanchez, Gil, Gana:
    Traore, Gestede,
Subs – Guzan, Sinclair, Lyden, Lescott, Kinsella, Ayew.

  15. Excellent article Matt : sums it perfectly .

I dread losing on Saturday , not just because of the points deficit but because with so many premier league newcomers in the team , it would be a devestating attack on their belief that we can still turn this round .

I also dread losing because Remi is a decent man , a professional with integrity and it wouldn’t be fair for his premier league career to be ruined before it starts.

A win may also unite a team that looks to be falling apart. Grealish ignoring the managers warnings and now we have Richards complaining that some aren’t given that extra mile. Yes this needs to be said and I like Richards as he is one of the team who cares and shows passion . But Isn’t this going to cause a bigger split in the already cracking dressing room . This should be staying within the villa camp not splashed over the Mirror . We don’t want to read that some if our claret and blue are already planning their edit route.

This brings me onto Remi’s intention to bring in an old villa person . Great news and brilliant idea . Ian Taylor top of my list. I listen to him every week and he knows what is going on with those under performing players . He’s said they aren’t pulling their weight and it’s a case of “look pal, I’ve been where you are and you’re not fooling me ”

He’s recent enough and respected as a player so that hopefully they will listen to him. He’s got good tactical knowledge and of course knows the premier league – exactly what Remi needs .

I wonder if Stan C isn’t just regretting his Outbursts now that this opportunity is on the horizon.

But does Remi know enough to pick the right person ??

  16. steamer
surly ayew has to start, one threat and only threat we have at the mo!

Whats this Jen about remi wanting to bring in villa old pro? thats marvellous news.

Richards rant could also be seen as a swipe to the french guys.

  17. I want Martin Laursen, Taylor, gregory get em all in.

Laursen comes across very well whenever i have heard him speak.

Olof just took a job as manager somewhere so not him 🙁 He would of cracked a few heads together

  18. Jen,
Bang on. Grealish had a warning about his form the previous week, didn’t take it and has got to get back in Remi’s and the fans good books. I’m a fan of Guzan but i think his game might be falling apart, hence Bunn who i’ve never actually seen, so you’re probably right.
Possibly Colly’s belligerent personality may be an asset but Fox would vetoe that move, Taylor seems a little too polite. Martin Laursen and Olaf, although untried, would be a dream ticket for a lot of Villans.
    Andrew
Like that team except for Bacuna at FB, clueless doesn’t cover him in that position. Nice tight MF though. I think Remi will have a word with them and define their positions, they were lone rangers last week.
Gregory really loves the Villa and Lee Hendrie reckons he’s a top coach.

  19. I honestly think you could make a team up of any of them at present and there wouldn’t be a huge difference. I don’t like the timing of Richards’s interviews and also his reference to Delph and Benteke. All history now and before his time anyway.

  20. Actually think Richards’ comments are spot on. Always risky, speaking out. It can backfire, but I couldn’t disagree with anything he said, and sometimes public shaming, putting the blame squarely on the players and not the manager and set-up, can force players to have a look, help them realize they have nowhere to hide.

Not like they were putting in the effort before he spoke out. Cleverly wasn’t much of difference maker for us most of the time until he flashed at the end, but he and Delph always ran their socks off and challenged the opposition.

If you can’t do anything else, you can at least play hard.

  21. Seems Garde and Richards are on the same page:

”The first half (at Everton) was quite disappointing for me,” said Garde.

”I thought that after the first goal we didn’t resist enough, lost too many challenges and didn’t create any chances at all for the first 35 minutes.

”In the first 35 minutes I didn’t see players who want to fight for the shirt. This is not the way I want to play, we were a little bit shy. The team is new and does not really know each other yet and we have to work hard to get to know each other.

”But the reaction in the second half was much better and this week in training we have been working hard. I am still very pleased with the way we train.

”I think we can do better than we have done and I hope we can improve on Saturday because it is my responsibility to find some solutions quickly, because we need them.”

  22. Interesting to see what John Gregory had to say on Wednesday

“I said at the start of the season that the squad was totally lacking in experience, we are relying on 21-year-olds that have hardly had a game in France let alone the Premier League”

The thing is , we were all waxing lyrical about these players beginning of the season saying save for Benteke our team had improved . Were we guilty of wishful thinking ? Villa fans are so desperate to find any glimmer of hope that I think we deceive ourselves some times . That said , Rudy scored 30 , yes 30 goals for Blackburn yet he hasn’t played a full 90mins for us . All this build up by Sherwood saying he’d been watching him for months and he’s just a bit part player .

Tayls was on the radio tonight . As he said , and John Gregory too, if they’d been involved in a 4-0 pasting , the last thing they’d feel like doing would be going out partying . Tayls said he’d have just gone home and drowned his sorrows and probably watched the game again .

Andrew – I read somewhere that Remi was looking to bring in an ex villa but can’t remember where ! It could v been the mirror football as I have that on an app on my phone .

  23. where do you start on villas woes well to me lerner ,every decision since taking over from deadly who is not blameless in this fiasco, has been wrong and another mistake trying to justify last one,mon walking signing ireland bent makoun houiller ,on then to mcleish how stupid ,faulkner as ceo out of his depth fox where do you start with this knob new contracts for gabby, hutton who they couldnt give away previous, lambert new deal, then sacking him after window closed, sherwood who i enjoyed and backed at the start seemed to have legs cut from under him, transfer policy crazy to say least, guzan was dropped at end of last season yet no replacement signed some talk of begovic but that was it talk we signed bunn who couldnt get contract with bristol city some young fellow untried, back to guzan he has made mistakes against pal, leicster sunderland chelsea and everton first 4 cost us at least5/6 points and along with losing points confidencein all team. benteke was sold and replaced with first div player untried at this level ,who mind you done alright first 7/8 matches, delph was going staying going all down to fox one of lerners great mistakes, we needed major investment in summer at least 50m on top of transfer recieved because our squad was worse now than when lerner took over and mon had to spend big to get us up to top 6 level,
we are putting out teams with at least 4 of these every week guzan, hutton richardson lescott westwood gabby who are league one standard to me,along wih that gana amavi vertout ayew rudi not proven at this level

  24. Morning folks will orobably miss the game unless I can find a bar here with it on.
I think we need to remember Remi has inherited a mess and has had 2 !yes 2 games to fix it. Mistakes will be made, funny how the lack of Sanchez and Amavi 2 foreigners and the addition of 3 english players caused meltdown. Sanchez was late back from south America same with Guzan. 7 of his city line up missed the 2 weeks of training during international week too so that wont help cohesion.

Time to stand up in the shield wall folks the battle was lost but not war

    UTV

  25. Very impressed with Remi’s style again .
This is exactly what we need , the half glass full “we are five games from safety” and that is what he will be saying to his players not the usual managers cliches of “this is a must win game ” which adds nothing but pressure and Tim Sherwood was saying this when we’d only played 8 or so games . This “must win games” adds nothing but pressure which a struggling team don’t need .

In sports psychology it is called “Polar Thinking ” which is harmful to performance . It’s the ‘losing is the end of the world’ thinking and we certainly don’t want that in our current predicament .

Remi is right – there are no must win games until we are down if we lose that particular game . Until then we have to have the belief that our position is temporary and we will improve

I’m also liking his continued emphasis on “collectivity” and working as a team , not as individuals.

United we stand , divided we fall . Something that Leicester had last season was a belief and fantastic team spirit. He hasn’t really inherited a “team” more a bunch of players who were swapped and changed week in week out . Tough job to do this after 15 games of the season but we have to believe not impossible .

I am going for a villa win today 2-1 ( with a racing heart !!)

Mark what part of Lanzerote are you ?

Where abouts are you in Lanzerote Mark ?

  26. If we don’t win today they may as well relegate us.

I have a feeling Newcastle and Sunderland will pick up 3 points as well. So wither we will be further in the shit, or we finally win and get know where with it

Garde can’t be scared today, not like last week. Attack. Press high.

Guzan, Westood and Richardson- Sack them. Don’t ever play them again.

Okore, Adama, Kozak, Garder all have to start today. 442, or 4231 with Zoggy

  27. And I would give Rudy a start today . Play him up top with Ayew behind . If only to hear the Holte singing Rudy Rudy Rudy Rudy 🙂 He scored 30 for Blackburn last season, surely he couid head in a few for us because no one else is .

  28. I’ve been to Playa Blanca Mark – there’s quite a few sports bars on beach front of playa blanca beach when I went – that’s the big beach between playa blanca town and the harbour .

  29. In fact – seeing the photos from training – they were doing loads of jumping – over jumps and grassy banks . Aerial challenges – expect to see a big man up front and play more direct: you heard it here first !

  30. Just watched Marc Albrighton in an interview on Soccer AM, still a down to earth nice bloke, ( he even queued for his own cup final ticket). He is playing really well at the foxes, his crossing is some of the best in the league and now he isn’t trying to beat everyone and is concentrating on putting the ball in, it’s paying dividends. How we could do with him back at Villa, as we struggle to put a decent ball in either in play or from a set piece . Today is massive, anything less than 3 points is a disaster, and I can’t see us getting much more than a score draw, we are that bad. I’m hoping the hate Deeney has for us fucks with his head and he has a mare, getting sent off. As many have said its hard to pick a decent 11 from our squad, but whoever plays, we need to ensure they give 100% and cut out the stupid errors, it’s starting to become do or die

  31. Off to VP in a min

Don’t play sacred Garde. Attack. Don’t play 3 centre mids, just two

Get body’s close to Ayew, like Gil and Zoggy. Or Kozak instated

    Attack. FFS don’t sit back

  32. I am looking forward to the game today. We have to win.

Garde is considered and cerebral – but we have to attack today. That has been the most worrying element of the two games he has managed so far – we haven’t looked like scoring.

Ayew cannot play the loan striker up front. He looks better in a wide position. I would play Rudy /Gabby/Sinclair as the loan striker.

I would also bring back Okore at the back for some fighting spirit.

I am not sure why Jack Grealish has been punished for having a night out? Seems a little harsh to me and we need all the help we can get at present.

    My team for today.

    Guzan

    Hutton Richards Clarke Okore

    Sanchez

    Sinclair Gana Nzogbia

    Gil

    Rudy

  33. We are 1-3 on for the drop, bookies have written us off as a done deal for the drop. Watford arrive with 3x the points we have, having only lost 2 away games in last 15( inc end of last year) playing well and full of confidence( complete opposite of villa). It’s going to be tough, but because of the position we are in and the way we have been playing, EVERY week is going to be tough. I’m gonna drive to the game so I can get back to my local rather than hang around today, that way if it all goes wrong I can drown my sorrows and walk home without having to sit on the train/bus first. I think it will be a draw which won’t help our cause much, let’s hope Palace, Everton and Stoke can do us a massive favour.

  34. Another depressing Line up which makes you seriously consider going home and watch paint dry instead

Garde seems scared. 451 at home again. The worst keeper we’ve ever had, starts again. A left hand side of Richardson and Sinclair. Utter want. Gil out of position. Ayew on his own
    Load of shite

  35. Frem – the game hasn’t started yet. Garde doesn’t have many options at left back.

I would have started with Rudy because I feel he can hold the ball up better than Ayew.

I don’t mind Sinclair on the left hand side.

Garde would have drilled the team all week on keeping our shape. The midfield will need to work hard today and turn our defence into attack.

I actually think we will win today.

I’m expecting a strong cameo performance from Adama in the second half.

    Come on Villa.

  36. richards
agree remi hasnot many options but if our reserves and youth teams don t have better options at keeper both full backs sack all coaches ,just take last 3 matches guzan beat at near post v spurs one save with nose against city, shocker last week especially third goal still in team, hutton v spurs nightmare per usual, city most of there good chances came to hutton s man they missed poor marking, last week everton went at richardson so hutton got away with it,richardson spurs booked for wild tackle awful show ,dropped for city match amavi done ok .everton what can you say worst show by villa player for years usless defender hasnt played for sunderland, fulham, wba and nowus in relegation battles for most of his career for no reaason, don t hold out much hope for today with them 3 starting

  37. zog gets on first 2 matches not involved today chopping changing but guzan hutton richardson stat in zog would be a better option left back,no crespo illor today either, only 4 summer signings starting and only amavi injured ,fox oreilly why

  38. I thought that was a cracking first half – we should be 2 goals in front – plenty of good attacking football – we created chances. Carlos Gil is such an intelligent footballer – Gana is looking better – Sinclair is running at players – so is Hutyon.

1O attempts on goal – 5 in target and 70 per cent possession.

    Is this the Garde effect!

  39. hutton my earlier comments useless at both ends of field
remi looks as stupid as last 3 managers gnomes maybe only worse keeper than guzan doesnt start rudi takes gil off

  40. Jeeeez, that light at the end of the tunnel was soon extinguished.Another “must win” has become another disaster. The form of the last 5 years shows no signs of changing.

  41. Thats why were going down! If its not guzan its hutton, clarke etc. One of them will do something stupid. Just repeating ourselves really, its all been said before.
The only question left is how many points do we think we can get i wonder…..,,i doubt it will be in the 20s. I say 16

  42. remi
you are as dumb as sherwood lambert and rest why did he not start traore and rudi and how does anyone think guzan HUTTON richardson are premier league players only thing to look forward to is the yank LERNER losing a heap of money no tv money in league one for him plus more pay offs for fox rielly and german and look to a team of bacuna baker hutton gabby westwood clarke on long contracts great work fox

  43. That entire B4 is a complete joke, can’t see a shutout this season. Some good things today but overall far too many errors, doubt if we’ll get above 15 points and without saying this is the worst team in our history, Lerner, Fox, Riley, Jeerman OUT.

  44. i am so fucking distraught after losing that game.

Their two goals in the second half were ridiculous

    I am lost for words.

I am absolutely gutted – we are the laughing stock of the premier league.

Please fuck off Paddy Reilly and Fox. Absolute shambles.

I am so utterly fucked off

  45. The lick is truely against us
yes we are a sub standard sde but at least we tried to play half decent football and kept our shape for the most part

we all know alan huttondinho is limited but he gave all he had and still ended up with egg on his face

i feel sorry for Remi as i feel he is good enough for the club but the club tsnt good enough for hm in terms of players

would swap our kids for any watford players funnily enough , but they are more experienced players that have mostly been together a while

  46. i pity the fans that go to that every week and hand over hard earned money to that wank lerner i know last years protest was a fail but the fans should stand outside for aresnal game or just stay away sky cameras empty stadium lerner won t be fit give club away

  47. Mutton mutton mutton!
Just has the feel of a relegation season unfortunately! We need ayew flanked by Gil and Gill next match if we’re going to save this sesson! We march on Villans!
    UTV

  48. well i think l will be staying in the pub in newcastle as l wont be going the game as l think l will end up getting nicked , and what l would give to get hold of that twat reilly and fox and give them both a fucking good kicking , and as for sherwood the fake , leaner l hope he has a fucking thrombo , were down and will be the holder of the worst record ever in the premiership , fuck em all

  49. Hutton and Richardson have never been premiership quality and well past it. Never rated Clark, similar to Baker – should be on loan somewhere.

Can not see how Remi can change the back four before January, maybe Bacuna and Okore.

We’re gonna ship 2-3 goals per match, can not see any hope at all.

  50. personally dont fancy gil as a wnger – i would like to see him as part of a centre mid 3 or behind the striker — skillful but bloody slow

also ayew in a wide role

  51. crespo ilor okore would be a help in defence
kozak scored goals when he played we need to try some players not playing every week
    bunn
    richards okore crespo clark
    troare sanchez vertout sinclair
    gil
    kozak

  52. It doesn’t matter how we dress it up, what formation or players are picked, we simply aren’t good enough. Today believe it or not was one of our better performances, yet we ship 3 and look blunt up top. I hope Lerner has a fucking heart attack when he finds out how much he is losing out on.
One more thing on today’s game, Deeney is a cunt, he showed is true classless self goading fans and squaring up, pity he wasn’t that hard in prison biting his fucking pillow

  53. agree b52 we just are not up to speed for this level
i do think the we can have a better 2nd half of the season as the team mostly have only just started playing together and in the prem

liecester bottom last season top this is a fine example of how quickly things can change
one thing for sure is we need a striker in the jan window that is lethal enough in front of goal to give the team more hope in games

  54. Got to see the match and if it wasnt for bad luck We’d have no luck at all. Remi tried to keep a settled side fair enough but we wont get far if hutton as our only option for crosses.
Vertout our best midfielder by far and as runtingz said Gil is wasted on the wing play him behind Ayew or tip of a diamond midfield play adama and nzogbia on the wings.

Obviously Kosak not fit or hed be straight in .
Disappointed that we dont offer enough support when in possesion but we need a focal point up top. I like Ayew but he doesnt lead the line a gil cant link from the wing.

  55. What happened to accountability ? Riley and the Jeerman spent our funds and now we’re relegated, if they had any self respect they’d resign as should the idiot who employed them and assisted in purchasing these players .. Fox, who also employed the previous chancer. This is the same Fox who gave the pathetic Lambert a new contract and has also given new extended ones to several players who can’t even get into the current shambles of a team. Chubby was crepe but this moron takes the biscuit. Then we come to the main problem Randy Lerner who just can’t make a correct decision, when he cosied up to HRH Bill at Wembley i nearly chucked, the only game he watches in two seasons and its the cup final !!
Still, 35,000 folk must be enjoying the fare on offer otherwise they’d be demonstrating before, during and after games like we did in the 60’s.
