With Aston Villa managing to win 3-2 via a late winner from Christian Benteke, the Belgian international made it three goals in two games to push the Villans into the next round. Gabriel Agbonlahor got Villa’s other goal, scoring to take the game to 2-0.

Whilst Swindon may only be a League 1 team, a banana skin was avoided though Villa did it in typical style by leaving the win right till the end.

If there is one thing emerging from the team it is that the second half is a real killer problem for the team, with Villa actually one of the best teams in the league on purely first half performances.

What is the answer? Increased fitness? Increased concentration? Either way, Villa need to shore up their conceding of goals, especially since their goal scoring conversion rate still remains low.

Whatever the solution to Villa’s defensive woes, a win is a welcome step into the quarter finals of the league cup, and a chance to build confidence.

Here’s to hoping the win translates into momentum against Sunderland where Villa will be hoping to secure a solid performance. Sunderland will certainly provide a sterner test.

We’re only three games from Wembley (semis are two legged), and whilst the next round could be difficult, it is better to be in than out!
