I was going to send this out as an email to everyone till I realised that I only have less than 500 of our readers emails vs the ~20,000 readers we have. Therefore I thought it best to post it on here in order to express my gratitude for all of your support whether you’ve been here from day one or arrived after we opened. Whenever you turned up, thanks for making Aston Villa Life what it has become today – a real community of friends.

Please see below, and thanks again for your continued patronage:

Thanks for your support – you’ve been great

Hi,

I’m writing to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and to thank you for your support of our site community over the past year.

For many of us, 2012 has been a challenging year – mentally and physically – but one that has, in many ways, given us the opportunity to rise to such challenges and allow us to learn from the experiences that resulted. It hasn’t always been easy but, then again, life rarely is.

Whether you’ll remember 2012 for footballing reasons as Aston Villa fans’ extremes of emotion were indulged by Messrs McLeish & Lambert, for Spain’s third consecutive footballing title, for the year London hosted the greatest show on Earth, or for a variety of reasons that saw the world throw natural disasters and personal tragedies at many people across the world, I’m glad that we, as a community, had your support.

A man can say much about the opportunity to feel part of a community, or of the privilege of looking forward to reading the views of many friends of the site and thus, by extension, friends of mine, but I’ll sum my thoughts up briefly via a favourite quote:

“Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: “What! You too? I thought I was the only one.”
― C.S. Lewis

In creating and maintaining friendships, our community has flourished, becoming what it is today, and it is built on the foundation that you as an individual contributes to whether you comment, write articles for us, or simply just read the site.

Whatever your role you take, thanks for your support. Without it Aston Villa Life wouldn’t be what it is today – a great community created by the fans, for the fans.

Have yourself a great holiday season and all the best to you and your loved ones as we approach yet another year where a new horizon promises new opportunities to learn more about ourselves and each other – I can’t wait to see what is in store.

All the best for today and many tomorrows,

Matt
