I had this email from Cure Leukaemia on Thursday and said I would publish it. I had planned to do it yesterday but got waylaid, so here it is.

A real hero of a Villan

Hi guys,

I’m writing from Cure Leukaemia about the chance of the blog doing us a bit of a favour in regards to raising some awareness and money for the charity.

Villa fan Pete Gough has taken on the incredible challenge of running over a marathon a day (30 miles a day) from Celtic Park to Villa Park in support of Stilyan Petrov, to raise funds for Cure Leukaemia, who’s staff have been looking after Stiliyan in recent months at the QE in Birmingham.

If you watch this short video presented by Adrian Chiles( just think that he supports team Cure Leukaemia not the Baggies) you’ll get an explanation of how the charity is helping patients like Stylian and how we’re hoping to help even more sufferers in the future. http://www.cureleukaemia.co.uk/page/view/24/what-we-do

Obviously Stan’s illness has drawn a lot of attention to the disease however we need to turn that support into money for the charity to raise vital funds in our battle against this devastating illness. I understand that Aston Villa Life has already helped to raise a lot of awareness about Stylian’s battle and the Support Stan campaign but as always our ex-captain is looking to try and help raise money for the charity and we if the blog could help make that happen that would be fantastic.

We’re encouraging more support from Villa and Celtic fans to try and get Pete Gough’s fundraising total up – to match the challenge of running over a marathon a day for 12 days. Lots of fans like his page, but there have been no donations in recent days as he takes on this challenge, which started on Monday 22nd July and will finish next Saturday 3rd August !

We want as many fans as possible to donate £3.10 each – just a penny a mile, to show Pete the support he deserves for undertaking this challenge.

If you could help encourage as much support as you can from fans it would be great. He’s 100 miles down, knackered, with another 120 to go (as of Thursday – Matt T_ – so we want people to get behind him. It will really lift his spirits, as it’s only going to get tougher and tougher.

Paul Faulkner has arranged for Pete to have his photo taken with the European Cup to finish the run, as he was photographed with the cup at Celtic Park before he set off. Please find Pete’s itinerary for the run, finishing next Saturday at Villa Park at approx 2pm.

Today;
